Prince Philip has died

There is a photo in our newspaper this today showing a balcony scene.
The photo is before Megan.
Harry’s face is obscured by Charlotte, Andrew’s face by Camilla.
I wonder if it took them ages to find it?

Sorry to lower the tone but every time the Queen refers to Prince Philip as her 'strength and stay' I have an image of him lacing up her corsets.

I find myself quite moved by some of the old footage and interviews, far more than they would have done in my younger years when I'm sure much of it would have washed over me. Something to do with the passage of time and the fact that our Queen and her consort have been around for my entire life there will be many of us in the same position. I know some have complained about the wall to wall coverage on tv, I don't begrudge it, it's the end of an era, anyway there's always Netflix or Prime these days!

I certainly don't agree with a comment up thread along the lines he had a long and pampered life. He had a peripatetic quite spartan early start from what I've read, I think it probably had a toughening effect.

I was surprised and quite moved to see and hear Prince Charles’ short tribute to his ‘dear Papa’ outside Highgrove.

I think Nick Witchell has made some interesting and pertinent observations in his role as BBC Royal Correspondent.

RIP your Royal Highness...you gave up everything to spend your life as the Queens Consort. Crackin’ job you did too. You brought many aspects, including lightheartedness, fun and ‘ordinariness’ into the Windsor dynasty....

I watched a programme about him and was surprised about his childhood which actually was quite sad. I also did not know exactly how much "work" he had done over the years especially for younger people. I actually felt very sad and when the scrap metal man who was friends with HRH in the carriage driving circles broke down talking about him I shed a tear as well. All that support for all those years I think the Queen will be lost now ?

I don’t think the Queen will be lost, the country and commonwealth has always foremost in her life, and it will continue to be so.

It's interesting Annie, I was thinking that as well, then it occurred to me that we have never known the Queen without Phillip. We don't know how she will react to not having him around. She comes across as very stoic so we will see.

I see that Meghan has been advised not to travel as she is pregnant, okay fair enough but I do think that Harry could bring Archie. They are so wealthy that they could have a private plane and Nannies and a Doctor to accompany them. It would be good for the Queen to see her Great Grandson
But I doubt if this selfish pair would even consider this.

I read that Princess Anne will take more of a role in supporting her mother now. Anne is so like her father in many ways.

It's better for Harry to come on his own. There shouldn't be anything to detract from the solemn occasion of Prince Philip's funeral.

ajswan irrespective if she could get a private jet, if medical advice is not to travel. Numbers are limited to 30 anyway, hence the PM not attending.

“Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown” but PP certainly made that position easier for the Queen. Her nature is essentially serious (like Charles) which fits her role and PP with his humour etc was, I’m sure, a welcome addition to her life, apart from the fact she was madly in love with him.
Although he is out of sight, I believe she will lean on Andrew, as she did before the accusations. They appeared together for many royal duties, He gives her the lightness she needs, not Charles.
My mother was born the same year and died in 2000, which feels such a very long time ago.
R.I.P. to our unwoke Prince, who would never dwell on his troubles, or choose the publicity of victimhood.

Prince Philip was very royal, more so than the Queen herself though her father was a prince then King, her mother was Lady Bowes-Lyon and not princess.
Philip had both parents who were directly from royalty, princess Alice his mother and prince Andrew his father.

I agree merlotgran nothing should detract from Prince Phillip's funeral including why M wont be there.

Andrew accompanied the Queen before the accusations because he was single. The Queen has a very strong faith and this will sustain her.

When Harry put the boot in it was Charles and William who were reported to meet with her to discuss how to handle it, Phillip was too ill.

She will miss the very deep friendship they had, he was the one
.person she could trust from the day they married.

Both Anne and Edward spoke of Phillip as the one they could turn to for advice and support and help.

However I think using this thread as an excuse to have yet another go at harry and/or Meghan is distasteful too.

Lucca you are so protective of Harry and Meg you are reading what hasn’t been written. I could understand if you jumped in if any other member of this family were criticised but that doesn’t bother you, only Harry and Meg.

The problem with people celebrating the duke of Edinburgh’s long life of service (purely for service sake) is that it peripherally shines a light on those who talk about service (with added benefits).

This leads some to try and defend the latter - a pointless exercise as most folks prefer the former IMO.

No eazeybee television doesn’t matter that much to me, thank you for your concern and patronage, but I query whether most viewers want the same thing on every main terrestrial channel and the answer from viewing figures is no.

Probably quite happy to switch the television OFF; some people do manage to do that.

RIP Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh. So sad to hear that Prince Philip died this morning aged 99 - sincere condolences to the Queen and their family. He achieved so much in his lifetime and, whilst he will be a great loss to our country, he at least died in bed peacefully with his beloved wife our Queen by his side. This is a time for reflection and grief - he supported his wife the Queen throughout her reign and did many things to be proud of, including the fantastic Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. Let us all take a moment to reflect, on all he achieved during his life - which was dedicated to serving his wife, the Queen, and to public service. He will be missed.
