He had a good innings. I liked him, he was a feisty one who spoke his mind.

Harry’s coming home, but without Meghan.
I wonder where he will stay?

Daisend1 Fri 09-Apr-21 17:48:51

Anniebach
The queen will most likely be interred in St Georges chapel Winsdor as were 'several ' past monarchs.
Abdicated king ie Duke of Windsor, as was his duchess ie Mrs Simpson, interred at Frogmore.

I just about remember their wedding. No television then, but I saw photographs. I was seven.

I loved his sense of humor. In 1967 the Duke gave a very candid response when he was asked if he would ever visit the Soviet Union.
He said: “I would like to go to Russia very much, although the b******s murdered half my family."

Making a slightly dubious joke about the terrible recession at the beginning of the Eighties, the Duke quipped: “Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed."
Prince Philip was known for not holding back with celebrities as he called Tom Jones’ songs “hideous” in 1969.

What a wonderful marriage they had!

Elizabeth1 Fri 09-Apr-21 18:09:40

So sad just heard he and the queen were both grandchildren of queen Victoria RIP Philip would that be correct?

Elizabeth1 Fri 09-Apr-21 18:10:20

When can we hug our grandchildren?

nadateturbe Fri 09-Apr-21 18:12:22

It's sad but we don't need so many stations cancelling programmes and reflecting all day.
BBC1 and 2 are showing the same thing fgs.

ExD Fri 09-Apr-21 18:16:51

If Harry does come back to pay his respects, will he be expected to self isolate for 10 days when he gets here?

vegansrock Fri 09-Apr-21 18:20:41

Well it’s not one afternoon is it - it’s all bl**dy afternoon and evening. Thank goodness for netflix. No disrespect but it’s too much.

Crazygran Fri 09-Apr-21 18:24:26

Very sad.
He was born in the same year as my dad who made it to 96.
He has always been a part of our lives with a great sense of humour.
So sorry for our dear Queen as she is about to reach 95 and 70 years on the throne without his support .
Rest in peace and thank you .

I’m another who found myself feeling very sad at this news. What a life story, I’d known some of it but found the detailed Bbc coverage fascinating. I enjoyed his strong personality. 70 years of marriage and public service is to be valued. I wish he could have a state funeral but maybe it’s no bad thing COVID will prevent that.

DillytheGardener Fri 09-Apr-21 18:29:15

Feel keenly for the Queen. I’m glad he died at home in his own bed and hope he passed peacefully.

nadateturbe Fri 09-Apr-21 18:38:59

I agree Vegansrock. Heading to Netflix but missing my favourite programmes.

muse Fri 09-Apr-21 18:46:54

Sad news.
I've read his wishes were: no state funeral or lying in state.

Gannygangan Fri 09-Apr-21 18:47:22

Plenty of other channels for those who are finding this terribly tedious

It's not a common occurrence.

Very sad news but I'm been able to see lots of his life that we've just never been privy to at all.

It's a sad day.

LauraNorder Fri 09-Apr-21 18:53:20

One or two days of learning much more about a man who dedicated his life to service won’t hurt.
Emmerdale or Eastenders will unfortunately still be on next week.
Enjoy your Netflix evening while the rest of us enjoy reminiscing and learning more than we probably knew about his hard work.

grannylyn65 Fri 09-Apr-21 19:08:07

Why would you even post this

Jane43 Fri 09-Apr-21 19:12:31

Not unexpected but still very sad. I don’t think he wanted a state funeral, he said he wanted no fuss. It says on line that Harry has been self isolating, presumably he was told how sick his grandfather was, yet he was pictured on the beach on Good Friday.

grannylyn65 Fri 09-Apr-21 19:13:18

Wow who knew

aquagran Fri 09-Apr-21 19:13:29

The golf is good!

nadateturbe Fri 09-Apr-21 19:14:06

It's very sad that PP has died but not everyone wants to learn all about him. I'm in bed ill and was looking forward to Coronation Street..
Obviously soaps arent your thing but for some it's very "unfortunate " that they are cancelled.

Gannygangan Fri 09-Apr-21 19:16:25

You remind me of my 4 year old son, vegansrock

I had a dreadful time explaining why his beloved Teletubbbies wasn't on TV the morning Diana had died

There's been some fascinating insight into Philip's life. I've been intrigued by it all.

But Gogglebox is still on at 9 on Channel 4 if you're worried about that

Lyndylou Fri 09-Apr-21 19:19:51

LauraNorder You can't watch 3 channels at once, all saying the same thing, so why does it need to be on all the main channels all night to midnight?

It is quite possible to be sad he has died, glad that he made 99 and sorry for the Queen, without needing to actually learn any more about his life.

JaneJudge Fri 09-Apr-21 19:20:12

Carol Klein is on channel 5
