They don’t help themselves do they?

I can hardly believe I’m going to post this but does anyone else find it hard to believe that Harry and Andrew who actually saw active service for Queen and country are to wear suits for the funeral rather than uniform? I understand why this decision has been made and I think it stinks quite frankly - designed to humlitate. I don’t know why they’re not wearing sackcloth and ashes actually - petty, vindictive, what a lovely family they are.

I've never understood why people wear uniforms at funerals: can someone enlighten me?

Charles will apologise for looking at the messages with the flowers because of criticism on GN.

Callistemon ? yes, the Palace (men in grey suits!) have been
Feverishly combing Gransnet threads all week, our comments mean a lot to them.?

suziewoozie Thu 15-Apr-21 20:15:41

Whoops - you think the Palace PR doesn’t monitor all forms of media? Really ? There was plenty of criticism across all platforms and types of media

Callistemon Thu 15-Apr-21 20:13:41

Actually you couldn’t be more wrong - the criticism everywhere has been taken into account and has helped inform the decision.

Ooh, inside information! Please tell us more!

I don’t really know why Prince Edward joined the Marines apart from it being expected of him. It shouldn’t have been expected of him, it wasn’t expected that Princess Anne would join up. He seems well suited to the role he has now, supporting the monarch along with his wife.

Yes, it really wasn't the right thing for Edward at all.

Anyone criticising him should try a month of RM training!

Anniebach Thu 15-Apr-21 20:09:02

What criticism is suppose to have caused the decision of no
uniform?

It's been announced that nobody will be in uniform, so all the furore has been for nothing ? (unless anybody thinks this thread was the deciding factor grin).

Actually you couldn’t be more wrong - the criticism everywhere has been taken into account and has helped inform the decision. Just like the BBC has made sensible decisions about coverage on Saturday. And the RHS grovelling

Edward tried the armed forces didn’t like it so moved on, has no one here ever left a job they didn’t like, my record is leaving
a new job half way through the first day.

Obviously.

I hope that Charles will abolish this ridiculous practice when he inherits the throne, Grany.

Grany Thu 15-Apr-21 17:53:44

The Queen promotes her children to senior military ranks as birthday presents. Why that isn't a scandal is a mystery.

Queen Consort is a title bestowed by the monarch and she does not have the same powers as the King, even though she may be crowned as part of the Coronation ceremony.

But she gets to be called Queen ?

Yes Parsley, Catherine will be Queen Catherine, following on from Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother), Queen Mary, Queen Alexandra et al.
They were all Queen Consorts.

Thank you, I thought that would be the case and poor Philip could only be a prince.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 15-Apr-21 16:08:24

“Hopefully one day Prince Edward will write a book about his time in the Marines.

From the medals he won it must have been a hell of a 4 weeks.”

???

*callistemon” it’s wasn’t a slur on anyone apart from Prince Andrew. It’s called a pun?

annodomini Thu 15-Apr-21 13:32:22

At the Queen Mum's funeral, even the Princess Royal was wearing a uniform. She's probably a colonel in chief of several regiments. I see no reason why on earth uniforms should be worn on every possible occasion, including funerals.

Vice is a good title for PA, wonder why he wanted a promotion.

That's an unfair comment on all those who are Vice-Admirals, Vice-Presidents etc who are next in command.

I’m at a loss as to why anyone’s getting steamed up about this, too.

Never mind - it’s keeping us occupied
