The Queen and dedication to duty in the 21st Century

Does dedication to duty overwhelm any other consideration when it comes to being Head of State?

Why can a person stay in post, with all the deference that entails, when someone else is doing all the "work"?

Is anyone else worried that a 95 year old lady believes she has to keep on keeping on when many, many other monarchs have moved on in life and their countries haven't crumbled?

Anniebach

Amazed that a sensitive man can be classed a sissy

Hear hear. I’m just amazed anyone still uses the word sissy to be honest.

Anniebach Thu 22-Apr-21 13:19:10

Don’t want to read the link Grany, I don’t bet but would be willing to place a bet on the link being from the republican group. Hardly unbiased .

Grany Thu 22-Apr-21 13:25:47

Didn't think you would Annie but you weren't asking the question from me Bridgeit was and this clearly explains it all in an honest manner You don't have to watch it Annie

Bridgeit Thu 22-Apr-21 13:56:40

Grany it did not answer my questions, a very short clip with no subsatnce.

Bridgeit Thu 22-Apr-21 14:02:25

Substance.

Grany Thu 22-Apr-21 15:56:59

Bridgeit you asked about BP not opening all year I presume relating to what funding they get and the cost to the public.

Well this video covers these issues thoroughly It lists the Nolan principles for those in public office. It was a reasonable length clip Did you watch it from the start?.

Anyhow the video explains Royal spending.
You will get a more balanced view of monarchy.

I can't answer any more than what this video covers. I think it says it all.

Grany... does the UK have a monarchy? Yes. That being the case, they have to be financially supported.Would you like your money to go down instead of up? How is that fair?
The buildings and staff must cost a fortune to maintain and would you like them to buy clothes from Primark to greet foreign heads of state? To serve beans on toast to the visiting politicians and world leaders?
You can say ‘get rid of the monarchy’...I feel that way myself, but as long as we do have a RF then you cannot refuse to pay them for doing the job they were born into.

Grany Thu 22-Apr-21 17:18:38

The monarchy is corrupt RF in public office for private gain..

The RF get more than enough funding, in fact too much. Lemon

It is. No point in watching because it is so predictable.

Grany All that you’ve outlined there is true but there is a small minority, most of them on GN it would seem, that just want to wave their flags and doff their caps and look through rose coloured spectacles. Sometimes I think it’s kinder to just let them carry on believing.

Here is a picture of the 'small minority' waving their flags.

???

Chestnut Thu 22-Apr-21 18:03:55

And another one.

Grany Thu 22-Apr-21 18:31:37

Here is a new shorter version one minute. Why we should get rid of the monarchy m.youtube.com/watch?v=MGKP_iDlCnE

What do you think?

These people do not know about the corruption in public office for private gain the lobbying spending public money freely. The exemption from FOI secretive What have they got to hide. If people knew they wouldn't like it. The monarchy is thought to be above politics

jacqrose Thu 22-Apr-21 19:45:25

Chestnut die hards from the older generation who want a day out because they have very little else going on, foreign tourists and people who just happen to be in town. Overall, on any ordinary day of the week people aren’t that interested in the Windsors. That’s one of the reasons nothing changes. You and others have been loyal fans for so long you can’t accept that a hereditary monarchy is undemocratic because you don’t want to admit that you and the rest of us have been mugged. I’ll leave you in your blissful ignorance.

Anniebach Thu 22-Apr-21 20:14:03

So patronising jacqrose

Bridgeit Thu 22-Apr-21 20:14:24

You are quite wrong about it being only the older generation who are interested because they have nothing else going on, what a patronising small minded narrow outlook you have on life.

Callistemon Thu 22-Apr-21 20:16:06

I really cannot take your post seriously jacqrose

But I suppose you must believe it
?

Anniebach Thu 22-Apr-21 20:57:10

Think several of us have been classed as the older generation , by a youngster perhaps ?

jacqrose Thu 22-Apr-21 21:00:47

Apologies if you all feel patronised. It's how I see it. I'm actually quite broad minded about a number of topics, it's just the unfairness of the of an hereditary monarchy and all that goes with it that I've never been able to get my head around.

Galaxy Thu 22-Apr-21 21:18:43

I think it will be interesting what happens with the younger generation, they consume news in a completely different way, I heard someone saying the other day that they wont even notice the demise of traditional media as it's so irrelevant to their lives.

Anniebach Thu 22-Apr-21 21:41:36

jacqrose you were patronising , and as ‘this is how you see it’
your apology is genuine

Casdon Thu 22-Apr-21 21:54:25

www.statista.com/statistics/863893/support-for-the-monarchy-in-britain-by-age/
There you are jacqrose. Support for the monarchy grows with age, but all age groups apart from 18-24s are at least 60% in favour.

Anniebach Thu 22-Apr-21 22:17:02

Ooops, jacqrose apologies, I meant your apology was not genuine

jacqrose Thu 22-Apr-21 22:33:27

Well I've offered it if you don't want to accept it that's up to you. I'm just being honest when I say that's what I think.
