What an absolutely ludicrous threat by Annick Girardin. I’m not a Brexiteer, but I cannot think of any way to defend this.

Anxious/bored/something to do/finding out a bit more about it/seeing how enraged other posters can make you on a daily basis/finding out I wasn't that interested anyway.

Take your pick.

Why not try posting opinions on things you know something about rather than just post as you did?

Callistemon Thu 06-May-21 15:19:50

Posters can post exactly as they like within the guidelines whatever you may think of their posts.

Unless you are GNHQ you are not here to police the threads or decide who may post or what they post.

I think many would agree with me.

I’m not policing - I’m making a point which I’m also free to make am I not? So how am I deciding? You responded to a post saying this issue wasn’t to do with Brexit without knowing if that were in fact the case. I simply don’t understand how ou can post an opinion on a fact you don’t know.

Well, going against the trend here, and fully expecting to be flamed - I don't blame the French. Brexit is at the foot of this, and Brexit was totally the fault/responsibility of the corrupt Westminster government and the brain dead individuals who voted for it.

That’s what I call defending your party! Insulting the electorate has rebounded so badly and still the woke don’t get it. Keep it up!

Actually it is a very serious situation. Every government needs a serious opposition and calling others “stupid” because they disagree with you will keep labour in opposition for the foreseeable future, or until the party members remember some basic good manners!

Living in North Cornwall am aware how hard it can be for those making a living from the sea so feel an affinity with the fishing industry residents of France
It is despicable, however, that France threaten to disrupt lives by turning off the Jersey power supply and need reminding that fishing is NOT the only business interest France has in Jersey.
Other business's and its people (who may also be French) living in Jersey, will suffer from French ' toys out of the pram' lets turn off the power we'll show them if we can't get our own way' Think about it France ?

It was never going to happen - it’s called political positioning. France, U.K. and Jersey knew that .

Alegrias1 Thu 06-May-21 15:39:46

It wasn't "France", they are not the Borg.....it was some French fishing minister going off piste. And of course they're not going to do it.

And as for supporting the French fishermen - was it only me and NotSpaghetti who heard the Jersey fisherman on the radio this morning supporting the French fishermen? His name was Loic. At least somebody is keeping his head in this daft situation.

MerylStreep Thu 06-May-21 15:40:03

All over. As some wit on FB posted but the french do have history of not putting up much of a fight

MerylStreep Thu 06-May-21 15:46:46

I have a shipping app. This history is kept.
If these french fishermen maintain that they have been fishing the waters it’s all there to see.
Google earth can do the same.

Nasty comment. Not witty at all but pathetic. It’s the posturing that’s over and Jersey are going to have to revise their licences imo.

^Brexit is at the foot of this^
Why would that be poshpaws?

The CI were not and are not in the EU.

You responded to a post saying this issue wasn’t to do with Brexit without knowing if that were in fact the case. I simply don’t understand how ou can post an opinion on a fact you don’t know.

I didn't say that though did I, sw.

I asked poshpaws why that would be as the CI are not EU members.

She/he hasn't responded with an answer to my question.

Oh how I would love to see the awful posturing Macron severely trounced in the elections next year.
Marine Le Pen possibly ?

You’re surely not salivating at the thought of le Pen winning the election? Heaven forbid.

Don’t shoot the messenger. He/she is probably posting what other people are saying/thinking but don’t have the nerve.

MerylStreep Thu 06-May-21 15:57:12

I read today that Macron has the nickname Poundshop Putin

suziewoozie Thu 06-May-21 15:58:26

Asking why Brexit would be at the foot of it certainly sounds as though you didn’t think Brexit was involved . New licences were only issued because of Brexit. Why did you think it had happened?

suziewoozie Thu 06-May-21 15:59:31

I read today that Macron has the nickname ^Poundshop Putin^

And BJ was called Poundshop Trump - equally stupid and unfunny.

Alegrias1 Thu 06-May-21 16:00:23

I think you'll find that nickname is already taken....

oops, double post, I'll get one deleted.

Wow! So in Susie’s world every single person in jersey is there to minimise their income tax. Does that include the shop assistants, the cleaners, the postman, the waiter, the road sweeper, the dialysis patient, the baby in SBCU?

This posturing and threatening behaviour probably scared the life out of some people and I doubt if many of them had much say in the islands becoming a tax haven, any more than you did with the outcome of the Brexit vote or the last election.

You seem so angry and bitter Susie. I am concerned for you!

Alegrias1 Thu 06-May-21 16:09:16

There's a comprehension problem here, isn't there?

Where did I say that? A tax haven is nothing to do with ‘ordinary ‘ people. And stop being so bloody insulting to me - how bloody dare you. You’ve just completely misinterpreted what I posted. - I am concerned for you and your lack of ability to correctly understand what I posted. Just stop it right with the personal attacks.

MaizieD Thu 06-May-21 16:20:54

I don't think you understand what a tax haven is. You don't have to live in a place to be able register your business there and enjoy lower tax rates than you would if it were registered in the UK.

I'm sure all the CI natives pay their tax like everyone else who doesn't have 'complex' financial arrangements to minimise the tax they pay.
