What an absolutely ludicrous threat by Annick Girardin. I’m not a Brexiteer, but I cannot think of any way to defend this.

I do realize that there are problems at the moment but it is shown out of proportion by the UK newspapers. It is election time.

No! There is a list of tax haven, the Channel Isles are not on it.
Simple as that. I’m not technically savvy enough to post links or I would.
The Isle of Man is as much the same just less of a climate.
It has a huge financial industry much like London and perhaps that’s why folk get confused.

Can’t post the link - really? Folk are not getting confused.

The fishing boats are already heading home.

Allegria. I see Jersey there in some dubious company but not the Channel Islands. So I remain unchanged.

Callistemon Thu 06-May-21 13:25:05

The best thing France can do is to ignore the nonsense
I think all Jersey wants is proof, ie paperwork
Bureaucracy.

I did think the French had a great talent for bureaucracy so can't see the problem.

shock

OK.

dogsmother Thu 06-May-21 13:26:23

It’s a storm in a teacup. Jersey should be allowed to protect its fishing grounds, had the Frenchman just signed ( some did) and not been arrogant thinking they could do as they pleased……..

Give the evidence and then we’ll see.

A licence is a licence. You can't expect to dictate conditions.

dogsmother Thu 06-May-21 13:29:29

I don’t feel any need.

You can expect to discuss them - Jersey are deliberately playing silly buggers

Ashcombe Thu 06-May-21 13:36:26

A Channel Islander interviewed on TV this morning made the point that many French companies operate from there so cutting off the electricity would harm their own economy, too!

Mais non Callistemon! See my post 22:44 yesterday. Get your drinking receptacles right!

Fair enough for Jersey to protect their own fish stocks. I heard one fisherman saying on the news that he didn't see why he should bow to some 'German' dictating fishing quotas any more.

As if it’s this simple

Of course it’s a result of Brexit - it’s a new post Brexit licence . From the BBC website.

The boats are protesting against new fishing rules - introduced last week by the Jersey government under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) - which require French boats to show they have a history of fishing in Jersey's waters. But it has been claimed additional requirements were added without notice.

suziewoozie Thu 06-May-21 14:10:58

It’s Jersey free loading again - serves them right. They just pick and mix what they want from us - they should buy their own gunboats and have their own navy ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 06-May-21 14:12:09

This will all miraculously disappear tomorrow - just wait.

Then why did you bother posting? ?

Alegrias1 Thu 06-May-21 14:35:34

But all those people who voted "Out" knew what they were voting for, oh yes....

Callistemon Thu 06-May-21 14:35:40

Anxious/bored/something to do/finding out a bit more about it/seeing how enraged other posters can make you on a daily basis/finding out I wasn't that interested anyway.

Take your pick.
