What I think will happen tomorrow

That the SNP will do well
That Labour in Wales will do well
That Laurence Fox and Shaun Bailey will be humiliated in London
That my local council will stay LD
That Labour will hang onto its Mayors and do badly elsewhere

This is not a difficult prediction

suziewoozie I am really struggling with my posting technique today (no sleep last night whatsoever) I should probably turn my iPad off before I get into more trouble, but it’s keeping me awake in the hope that when I do go to bed I shall be out for the count until the morning.

PippaZ Thu 06-May-21 15:47:14

Oh suziewoozie, I've just been through that. In the end I had a lie-in and then slept three hours in the afternoon. I then had the best night's sleep I've had for ages. I have neuropathy and have no idea why it was playing extra nasty. Like you I thought sleeping in the day was not a good idea but strangely it did the trick.

Too late.... the seed has been sown. !

My brain is not a much in gear as I thought. My last post should have been to GrannyGravy.

My father would not recognise his beloved Labour Party Urmstongran. All his life he was an active member. Although we had different views, his were coloured mainly by his time in the war and what he witnessed, he could discuss differences in a rational way and respected others views, the very opposite of what the party is now for all the reasons you state. To support Corbyn was unbelievable. Now there is a multi millionaire lawyer head of Labour, not speaking against the woke movement and the social disruption. My grandchildren will grow up thinking this is how grown ups behave and therefore acceptable. We have as a nation readily let these bullies have almost free reign. I am glad I'm the age I am, despite the financial hardships in the first third of my life I worked and made it better and didn't blame the world for my problems and expect others to pick up the tab. A member of my family who has unfortunately never taken responsibility and gets every benefit going despite not wanting to work. I say not wanting he's more than capable., Whitewave, it's you that shouts predudice if you think having moral values is wrong that otgers can't stand this woke, taking the knee etc. I would be interested if any of these protestors actualy work, it must be awful working along side one with all their entitlement and angst.,Heaven knows what would have happened if labour had been in power through this pandemic, but they do come up with solutions after the event.

Oh come on!

Whitewave clearly has strong moral values. They just don't align with yours. Are you REALLY so conceited that you believe your values and norms are the only correct ones? Can't you see in shades of grey? Do you believe any one political figure or party or policy is perfect? I could go on, but I doubt it would be worth it as I suspect your mindset is too deeply entrenched to even consider looking at the world with an open mind.

kittylester

Any leafleter worth their salt is trained to do this - I take it Urm you’ve never leafleted for a political party ? ??

What a very odd thing to say suziewoozie. Was that intended as a slur?

I have done leaflet drops and we were told to push the leaflet all the way through as anno said. It might even have been for the same party.

Oh fgs it was a joke?

lemongrove Thu 06-May-21 17:04:18

Perhaps posters will be in a better ( more pleasant mood) on Friday when the votes have been counted.Or...perhaps not.

Mollygo Thu 06-May-21 17:45:31

I do hope so Lemongrove, but someone will have to lose so . . . How long before the words stupid, uneducated, prejudice Brexit, etc. etc flood the threads.
With regards to Brexit, I seem to remember, whatever people on here say, that an awful lot of venom was aimed at the oldies which could well include many on GN, because graphs showed that more people over 34 who didn’t have a degree voted leave.

growstuff Thu 06-May-21 18:29:37

But ... but ... but older people without a degree did tend to vote Leave.

Do you have a problem with facts?

Alegrias1 Thu 06-May-21 18:32:24

We're not having facts today Growstuff it spoils the fun. I think there was a vote on it, but we missed it.

Ah! That'll teach me not to log on to GN every minute of the day.

I just regret that so much of my education was wasted. I was taught to look at facts and not to be swayed by emotions and false arguments.

Mollygo Thu 06-May-21 19:03:39

I’m not arguing with facts, just offering sympathy to any GN without a degree who may feel under attack on here.

Ah! I get it! The victim mentality complex rears its ugly head!

Absolutely right growstuff. That’s me.

We all have different strengths.
I didn’t go to university but apparently common sense and intelligence aren’t the same thing so I don’t feel too hard done by!
?

Mollygo Thu 06-May-21 19:38:14

Victim mentality?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 06-May-21 20:06:11

Flip knows where I fit in then?

Got into Grammar School with one of the highest scores in my cohort, left school at 16 after 0-levels due to family financial issues?

Intelligence and the ability to pass exams are not the same thing (maybe a topic for a separate thread?)

Whitewavemark2 Thu 06-May-21 20:18:03

Hope you have a better night tonight gg13 ?

MerylStreep Thu 06-May-21 20:22:14

We haven’t got an ology between us. In fact I had to leave school before I was 15 due to family circumstances but we retired when OH was 55 and I was 58 ( 75) now.
We live a very comfortable life style so I assume we can’t be that stupid ?

Definately worth a dedicated thread GrannyGravey13

I have a degree, thanks to my ability (at the time) to pass exams - a near photographic memory in those days helped. I am not particularly intelligent though - maybe just a bit above average.

Some of the most intelligent and most widely read people that I've known in my life did not do well out of the formal education system, and do not have O'Levels, never mind degrees.

I do hope so, as we have The Imp from 8.30am tomorrow, 16months old we adore him but he is very busy grin

lemongrove full results will be later in some areas this year because of Covid restrictions. Police and crime commissioners don’t start the count until Monday.

growstuff Fri 07-May-21 01:12:55

Labour supporters ... enjoy! Ooh! These results might end up being interesting after all!

I haven't claimed otherwise.

All I have done is state the fact that people without a degree tended to vote Leave. That's a fact. How people interpret that is up to them. What irritates me is that people jump to ridiculous conclusions and become defensive about facts.

There's actually a much more simple explanation, which has nothing to do with education level or intelligence, which is that older people tended to vote Leave. Older people are less likely to have degrees than younger ones and are less likely to have an international outlook and more likely to be nostalgic for a time when the UK was more important on the world stage. They are more likely to be home-owners and be financially secure. All of these have been shown in numerous surveys. It doesn't mean that all fit the stereotype, but they are true at population level.

Ooops! That didn't last long.

Britain Elects

Fulwell (Sunderland) council result:

Con: 42.4% (-3.0)
LDem: 36.5% (+32.2)
Lab: 16.9% (-16.6)
Grn: 4.2% (+0.6)

Con HOLD
[Corrected - apologies!]

That sounds more like I expected. Strong result from the LibDems though.

Galaxy Fri 07-May-21 07:44:21

Do people know about the labour councils history in Sunderland in recent years. I am sad for the implications for the country of a Tory majority but bugger me labour deserve a trouncing in Sunderland.
