Free Movement of people agreed with India in exchange for Deal?

Smileless2012 Tue 18-May-21 13:54:50

With reference to your post @ 11.33 Maizie you should look at Alegrias' post @ 11.10 in which she is responding directly to Peasblossom and posted "get a grip".

So they were either totally unprepared and didn't understand the implications- or totally dishonest and plain liars. Which is it?

I'd say it was both, Kali2

Oh, well done, smileless. That's a point to you...

Alegrias1 Tue 18-May-21 14:01:21

Does it count as a point if I own up to it first? (11:51)

I really don't understand these rules.....

GrannyGravy13 Tue 18-May-21 14:04:49

Some people see a solution and look fo a problem?

Others see a problem and find a solution?

Northern Ireland Protocol 'dead in the water', senior ally of Boris Johnson says.

Lord Frost, the Prime Minister’s Brexit negotiator, has privately set a July 12 target date to end the chaos of cross-border checks.
?

Go ‘Frostie’!

You are aware that it was Johnson and Frost that negotiated the Deal and agreed to the conditions required by the NI protocol.

So they were either totally unprepared and didn't understand the implications- or totally dishonest and plain liars. Which is it?

Perhaps we could remind Ug of this tweet by the snowman in December last year:

I'm very pleased and proud to have led a great UK team to secure today's excellent deal with the EU.

Both sides worked tirelessly day after day in challenging conditions to get the biggest & broadest trade deal in the world, in record time.

Thank you all who made it happen.

'Excellent deal'hmm

vegansrock Tue 18-May-21 14:39:10

No doubt all these travel requirements for Brits will be blamed on the EU.....

Ha ha vegansrock, why not?

Thank you for all that information regarding Spain Kali. However, none of it will affect us as our tiny apartment is too small to host family Or friends!

We plan to do our usual in 6 weeks. Go to the airport, fly to Malaga then catch a train, six stops along. Can’t wait. The simple, small life has its benefits!

Urmstongran Tue 18-May-21 15:33:41

Like for all other nonEU nationals wishing to visit Spain and NOT lodging in paid holiday accommodation, but with friends or family instead, the host in Spain must apply for a ????? ?? ????????ó? for each person involved

As I say, we won’t be hosting!

Most people visit Spain and lodge in paid holiday accommodation. So the above won’t affect them either. It’s all about large places big enough to put family/friends up for their stay.

No room at our inn! ?

And the day just got better!
BREAKING NEWS:

Emmanuel Macron has bowed to Boris Johnson by stumping up French taxpayer cash to lead a bailout for Eurostar.

The French government and Eurostar’s other shareholders will stump up £200m.

Britain will not pay a penny and will not provide any loan guarantees, The Telegraph can reveal.

The Channel Tunnel rail operator was taken to the brink of collapse earlier this year after passenger numbers fell 95pc as a result of coronavirus travel restrictions.

French ministers and Eurostar bosses appealed for the UK Government to step in and inject tens of millions of pounds into the business amid concerns it was running out of cash.

Grant Shapps, the Transport Secretary, resisted the demands from Paris, insisting that Eurostar was “not our company to rescue”.

I've been trying to think of a way of putting this that isn't rude...but I can't think of one. So, apologies in first.

Flying to Malaga to spend time in your second home, no matter how tiny, is not the small, simple life confused

Its very nice, I don't grudge it to you, but if you think that's the small simple life then there is something deeply wrong with society.

How people decide to spend their retirement is entirely up to them and them alone.

I don't think I wrote that this was about you !!!

But in response to those who said they would avoid France on their way to Spain.

What a daft thing to write- how people spend their retirement depends on the conditions that will make it possible or not.

I agree, but due to the Brexit vote, that decision has been taken away from many people. Thanks for your understanding and sympathy though. There's an awful lot of 'I'm Alright Jack' going on here today.

Gret news re The Tunnel bail out. You do realise, of course, that if France puts up the money, they will have control of access, etc, for imports and exports, and more.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 18-May-21 16:20:54

You couldn’t be more wrong. I have a daughter from mainland Europe and a GD with a mainland European passport.

I am fully aware of the inconveniences occurring at the moment.

I'd say so too. But would be nice to have the pov of the person who wrote 'go Frostie' (and yes, I think he should 'go').

Ah, but it is for us! We had a semi detached house, sold it and bought 2 small apartments. Technically anybody who owns a house (most on here I think) could do the same.

And it is a simple life. Less cleaning, small utility bills, no garden or fence panels, guttering to maintain. It’s so simple to live our way of life you wouldn’t beli very it Alegrias!

It’s already theirs, has been for years.
I can’t foresee any changes on the horizon. Can you?

I thought Malaga was on the amber list which meant that although it wasn’t illegal to go there the government advise people not to?

Urmstongran Tue 18-May-21 16:38:02

You’re right of course MayBee. Amber just means be a bit more careful than green but Malaga is on the coast with the fresh sea air so I feel quite safe. Of course, Amber also means we will have to quarantine when we return (but maybe not mid July, who knows, things change!) but as we’re retired we are happy to comply.

So it is, but if you read had Urmstongrans post correctly our usual in 6 weeks time when hopefully it will be on the green list as predicted.

Sorry Urmstongran crossed posts.
