Free Movement of people agreed with India in exchange for Deal?

Kali2 Tue 18-May-21 19:53:21

Of course they are not. For 2 reasons. a) I understand Urmstongran has no intention of ever living in Spain and b) they have got everything done before before 31.12.20.

So, no, not at all the same.

I did tell the tale earlier of several of my friends from other countries and said that goalposts change, or, to put it crudely, shit happens.

And I blame the inertia of those who could not be bothered to vote.
It's no good raging at those who exercised their rights.

Kali2 Tue 18-May-21 20:06:56

Of course it is, as they are responsible for said goal posts changing.

Callistemon Tue 18-May-21 20:10:28

Of course it is, as they are responsible for said goal posts changing.

It's those who didn't vote - negligent and complacent.

I do know people who voted to leave because of the bureaucracy etc - which is making itself evident now.

I'm delighted for anybody who's got a lovely apartment in any part of the world to which they can toddle off and have a lovely time.

I'm sure they know just how lucky they are compared with the vast majority of people in this country, or any country come to that. At least I hope they do.

People voted to leave because of all the bureaucracy.

Now we've left, the bureaucracy has got worse.

Brexit logic there. confused

What empathy did you showfor those who weren’t doing well under membership of the EU Kali?

Or did you think ‘It’s working for me. Too bad for them.”

A bit unrealistic to think they’ll care. Why should they? You didn’t.

Alegrias1 Tue 18-May-21 20:22:25

Still waiting to hear how leaving the EU has improved their lives Peasblossom.

Peasblossom Tue 18-May-21 20:27:27

People voted to leave because it wasn’t working for them.

None of the rhetoric would have got anywhere if people had been happy with their lives.

Peasblossom Tue 18-May-21 20:29:32

I think I did post a bit above somewhere. Just a couple of immediate improvements.

As for the rest time will tell.

Peasblossom Tue 18-May-21 20:32:11

But Kali was complaining about a lack of empathy. Nobody cares about her problems. People are just selfish and only concerned about what they want.

It does work both ways. What you give you shall receive??

Or how it ever could.

They were lied to, and they believed it.

Alegrias1 Tue 18-May-21 20:33:33

Sorry, cross post Peasblossom. I'll go and look.

Those of us who can toddle off whenever/wherever are fortunate. It in no way means that we have lost the empathy gene.

Some folks horizons are further afield than the EU, they are used to paperwork and visas.

Urmstongran Tue 18-May-21 20:35:07

Maybe it’s an independence thing Alegrias. Something one yearns for regardless. Like Indy2 perhaps?

LadyGracie Tue 18-May-21 20:35:24

It happened, just get on with it.

Urmstongran Tue 18-May-21 20:36:24

Is it necessary to be quite so indirectly sneery?

I have no idea what this means in the context of the conversation.

Urmstongran Tue 18-May-21 20:38:51

Try harder.
It means Brexit, like Indy2 are wanting to break free.

Alegrias1 Tue 18-May-21 20:41:16

Hmmmm....thought so. Too late and too much effort to explain why Scottish Independence is different to Brexit. Too late for lots of things.

Alegrias1 no being sneery on my part, just reminding some on here that many GN members have family living outside of the EU (myself included) who are used to jumping through metaphorical hoops for visits.

Goodness, that’s a very judgemental comment Alegrias , “toddle off” really? Is retirement not meant to be our “lovely tine” ?
Why should a person not choose to use the proceeds from their home to downsize to two smaller properties. . Or indeed retire to a thatch in the Cotswolds, a chalet in the Alps, or a villa in France or Italy?
Is it morally less defensible than living for instance in a highly desirable university town. I am sure anybody living in such surroundings also knows how lucky they are.
