Swimming speedily through this tsunami of criticism I would just say that:

- I know that she is a Labour MP
- I know that she cannot be sacked from that role - unless she commits an offence.
- I know that a member of either cabinet can be sacked by the leader
- I grovel before you all for failing to say that I was referring to the Shadow Cabinet
- further grovelling for mistakenly thinking she was in the Shadow Cabinet still.

Enough grovelling for one morning!

I would just say that sometimes people get stuff wrong and correcting them can be done pleasantly.

The ripping into DA has been incredibly personal on this thread - not for the first time and if not racist then very close to it and if not misogynistic then extremely close to that too. When you chose to join in with such a clique you must have guessed there would be some feedback.

You could equally say that critisism on politicians could be done for their politics and not about them personally.

This thread started as one discussing whether Abbot was right to say what she did. Good topic. The third post was about her mismatched shoes. By the end of page one she was Dippy Diane. Go figure.

If a thread had been started to show that Johnson was wrong about something he said, then it would have gone exactly as you demonstrate above Aleg.....you can’t have it both ways.
Posters are critical of politicians in a personal way, all politicians, so why should Dianne Abbot be treated with kid gloves?

Yes like when DA got a calculation wrong and the press went on and on about it. Priti Patel couldn't even read a number and it was all glossed over.

IMO it’s racist to apply different, less critical standards to anyone, purely because they’re black. Wouldn’t that imply that they’re intrinsically less capable/trustworthy/whatever?

Given general attitudes at the BBC, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if more allowances were made for Martin Bashir, because he’s brown.

The party of the politician is irrelevant, there have been plenty of threads about politicians of all parties on here - Starmer only a couple of weeks ago, Sturgeon, and Salmond to name but three. All are treated in the same way, with vehement pro and anti posts.

I can't think how that's a fair description of her long career as an MP.

I think Luckygirl should read Jack Monroe's piece and find out what a ground breaking woman Dianne Abbott has been and how she has stood up for women, black people and the poor in spite of abuse and condemnation. If she is becoming less capable it doesn't detract from all the good work she has done. And all acheived through her own efforts.

Look at how the media treated them, DA made a mistake in a calculation she was vilified. PP couldn't read a number, it was barely mentioned.
