GB News will attempt to shake up the broadcasting landscape when the news network launches its TV channel in early June.

The news service, spearheaded by veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil, has announced plans to go live on Sunday June 13.

In a tweet, the channel said it would launch at 8pm with a special programme, 'Welcome to GB News'.

I can’t wait!

More news!!

The headlines do for me; then I research anything that seems interesting.

I am giving GB news a go. I am totally sick of the other news channels. I am tired and sad that my views are being ignored. I do not believe in causing trouble and shouting others down. Guessing that is why my views are ignored along with so many others.

growstuff Tue 15-Jun-21 09:05:01

Which views are those specifically?

Will definitely be worth tuning into. Hopefully it will be less biased than the BBC

Surely it can't be more biased? wink

I have heard the BBC described as being too left wing and too right wing, many times. Hilarious. So which is it ?

FannyCornforth Tue 15-Jun-21 09:36:34

Lucca I take that as absolute proof that the BBC is doing it right

Which of your views are being ignored love0c. I would be really interested to know as we hear many saying they are being ignored but it is hard to find out in what way.

I'm afraid that GrannyRose15 is looking for a programme that only reflects her views - that is the new "unbiased" apparently.

^I haven't heard so much right wing drivel in a long time.^
Any particular right wing drivel or just everything they say?

Virtually every word Dan Wooten spoke during the 7 minutes that I watched him.

PippaZ Tue 15-Jun-21 09:43:03

Sorry, that should have been JessK and GrannyRose15

It's not whether they are biased one way or the other. We can make our own minds up about what the PM and others say. It's the talking down to/belittling arrogance of the presenters that gets on my nerves.

Are you looking for presenters who confirm your views and "speak your language"?

FannyCornforth Tue 15-Jun-21 09:54:42

It's so awful that I'm starting to think that Farage turned them down.
Widdecombe can't be too far away.
And Edwina Currie has been uncharacteristically quiet these days.

They desperately need some people who, at the very least, know how to behave in front of a camera.
Gloria Depiero (sp?) was excruciating to watch yesterday.
It looks like one of those weird local cable channels that you got in the 80s.
I think that they are already in need a relaunch.

PippaZ Tue 15-Jun-21 09:58:52

I want to be able to continue to hear both sides, even when it does annoy me, simply because I know that I, like everyone else, have both a conscious and subconscious bias that needs to be challenged, checked and revised constantly.

This channel seems to only want to confirm the views of the extreme right which is very worrying. I wonder if we will have a channel presenting the communist viewpoint any time soon?

Kali2 Tue 15-Jun-21 10:23:10

Will admit I have not read the whole thread. But has anyone mentionned that Andrew Neil lists his residence in France, but his business address in the UK. I wonder where he pays tax then?

FannyCornforth Tue 15-Jun-21 10:28:27

Kali yes, it has been mentioned a couple of times

I thought I'd have a look at it today. BBC and Sky the volume on my TV was 40 and I could hear them clearly, turned to the new channel and even with the volume at 100 I couldn't hear them properly. Don't know what was going on but I switched it off.

They sound like the

My views are mine. I don't need them confirming by anyone. What I don't want is to know the interviewers views or unnecessary chit chat. It's ok if it's a bit of chat with the weatherman/woman or about sport etc. When it's political I have a good memory and am reasonably intelligent so it's information I'm after. Really I just want the person asking the questions to ask the right questions and listen to the answer given.

I think too many journalist think of themselves has celebs. I guess their fb and twitter following has gone to their heads.

Language? I'm an English speaker by birth and have O level in French and German. That was over 50 year ago so I'm a bit rusty admittedly. I can order a beer/ wine in Spanish.

Mamardoit Tue 15-Jun-21 12:09:14

Sorry about the as/has. I'm a bit distracted with the two pre school DGC. They are cousins and I'm giving them lunch and entertaining them for the afternoon. RL more important than what's on the TV.

Chestnut Tue 15-Jun-21 12:15:17

I am astonished at how quickly people will jump in to criticise.
I have checked it out a couple of times and they are definitely having technical problems with microphones at the moment. However, having worked with technology myself I understand how difficult it can be, so is it too much to allow them a week or two to get bedded in? This is a brand new channel and does not have the equipment or reach of the other channels which have been working for 50 plus years in some cases. I also feel their format may change once they have settled in, so give them a chance!

growstuff Tue 15-Jun-21 12:15:59

Mamardoit I wasn't enquiring about your foreign language skills. I was puzzled what you meant by "talking down to/belittling arrogance". I must admit I find the opposite, but I hardly ever watch TV, so maybe I'm just unlucky. I find most current affairs coverage is dumbed down, but I'm not optimistic that this latest news channel will do anything to remedy that, especially given the people behind it.

So you won't be watching any more then. Good. This thread might host an interesting discussion on the new channel in a couple of weeks when all the haters have stopped watching. At the moment it's just full of criticism from left wingers on how bad it is and how ignorant and stupid anyone is who watches it.

Don’t assume those that are critical of its format are left wing?

I'm sorry this is completely unacceptable! The Clangers remain one of the best children's TV programmes ever and likening this right wing news drivel to their complicated and clever language and relationships has to stop now. Granny Clanger is very upset and the Soup Dragon is threatening to pinch Andrew Neil's hairpiece and make it into soup.
