GB News will attempt to shake up the broadcasting landscape when the news network launches its TV channel in early June.

The news service, spearheaded by veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil, has announced plans to go live on Sunday June 13.

In a tweet, the channel said it would launch at 8pm with a special programme, 'Welcome to GB News'.

I can’t wait!

Totally agree urmstongran - I dip into the tabloids here and there, mainly for human interest stories but occasionally they hit the target with real news.

Fox News by another name

Interestingly it is owned by people who do not live in the U.K., just like Murdoch. They reside in the UEA and USA .

Neil lives in France.

GB News does not appear to be British.

Andrew Cole (founder) has already announced that GBNews intends to attack all MPs Lords and civil servants who did not support Brexit.

However, given OfCom’s regulations on bias, GB News will in theory be obliged to present the opposite argument.

Given its pitch to date, it is difficult to see how OfCom’s rules will be adhered to.

Why do you think that the Tories are so keen to appoint the former Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre as chairman of Ofcom????

Will definitely be worth tuning into. Hopefully it will be less biased than the BBC

It is amazing how some people believe that the definition of "bias" is "not always agreeing with my opinion"

Have you ever seen Fox News? There are millions of Americans who supported Trump and thought Fox News was unbiased. Some of them now think Fox News is biased in favour of the left, liberal, socialist, communist because it "called" the presidential election for Biden when it was clear he had won.

Some of these Trump suppporters have now migrated to other tv stations even further to the extreme right and no doubt if you asked them they would say that their new station is "unbiased"

I am sure that GB News will do very well with people who think that the Telegraph, the Daily Mail and the Express are unbiased.

Am sure it won’t do well. for those that think the Mirror, Daily Star, Guardian, Independenz. Oh yes and Russia Today are totally unbiased.

I doubt whether anyone thinks RT is unbiased. After all they gave Nigel Farage his own show and Alex Salmond.

RT 's agenda is to engineer the destabilising of the West.

This is true, but they all have their own agenda, left, right, centre of both.

Good grief - that can't happen, can it?

lemongrove Tue 08-Jun-21 09:21:31

Apparently ( on GN) ? Lin only the right wing sources are biased. All left wing sources ( apart from Russia Today maybe)are wonderfully un-biased and tell only the clear and unvarnished truth.

Nah, we'll be watching it with a glass of the uisge beatha and a well honed sense of the absurd.

Here's a start for you

Now, with the graphs all plotted with the same axes. Not quite so good for the Spectator, I'd say.

Next time anyone thinks Neil is the guy to go to for the facts, just bear this in mind. He'll "bend the truth" if it suits him.

It was a recurring theme in Private Eye where each issue people would write in to ask them, for different reasons, to reprint the photo (just google Private Eye Brillo). It allowed them to reprint the photo in almost every issue for years.

On the wiki Private Eye recurring jokes page it says:

A regular feature of the Letters page is "Photo Opportunity", where correspondents concoct spurious reasons for the magazine to print a particular 1995 photo of journalist Andrew Neil embracing a young woman, often described as Asian or mistaken for former Miss India Pamella Bordes – though she is in fact African American.[32][33] On the photograph's initial printing, it was learned that Neil found the photograph embarrassing, and the Eye has reprinted it frequently since. Neil has described this as an example of "public school racism"[33] on the part of the magazine's editorial staff, which he found "fascinating". The magazine nicknamed him Brillo, after his wiry hair which is seen as bearing a resemblance to a form of kitchen scouring pad.[citation needed] In addition, it often misspells his surname with an extra L, in reference to Neil's relationship with Pamella Bordes, whose name is written with two Ls.

Can’t wait.
I won’t watch bbc news. ITV is too fluffy. Kay Burley is back on sky so that’s a no no.
All the journalists and reporters I’ve seen this morning, I like.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 13-Jun-21 10:35:15

Fox News U.K., is on a very dodgy financial footing.

Whether it survives remains to be seen.

I’m not sure that the U.K. public have a taste for the absurd and dishonest. Nor extremes.

Urmstongran Sun 13-Jun-21 10:48:07

A quote from Andrew Neil in the Sunday Telegraph today:

“Still, even for this heaviest of journalistic heavyweights it is not nothing to launch a new television station, as he is with GB News, a politics and comment channel going live tonight, with a radio station to follow next month. American-style, it has been “built around presenters with character, attitude, a bit of humour, larger than life in some cases,” a fact which, combined with the pro-Brexit leanings of some of those anchors, has seen it repeatedly written off as Britain’s Fox News.

Neil wearily dismisses such accusations. The channel won’t be “shouty Fox News-type nonsense” and, as chairman and flagship presenter, “I’ve made it clear I will have nothing to do with fake news or conspiracy theories. We have to be a proper news organisation, just with a slightly different spin on things.”

I’m excited already!
