And my point was, and still is- that there is absolutely no reason why people coming from much lower infection rates, including DV, have to go through the procedures and cost described above- and not UK travellers going t'other way round.

Kali2 it is down to individual Governments to set their own entry requirements, I guess (and this is only my opinion, not verified) that UK tourists are wanted/required to keep some European resorts from going under, therefore they are happy to welcome them. An item on BBC news pointed out that UK tourists make up 80% of the visitors to Ibiza each year.

It is not about 'bothering' me- it is a serious concern that those countries are making a choice, on economic grounds, they are likely to seriously regret later, with even worse economic consequences. No one is twisting your arm to travel anywhere kali2; you should do as you see fit, within the parameters of the law at that time. Just as I, and others, will do. If you feel strongly enough that personal choice should be taken away again, you need to lobby your MP. although he'll probably be away on holiday in the Maldives at the earliest opportunity

I went to the library last week. They asked me to fill in a form with my details. Yeh, right. Nothing on that form will find me.

I think there’s a quite revolution going on. More and more there are people in stores with no masks. But yesterday evening was a real eye opener. We were in a Greek restaurant. We had booked as its popular and didn’t want to be disappointed.
We were the first people in there but every table after us just walked in off the street. I could see them reading the menu and then deciding to come in. Not one of those people had a mask on.

I quoted that earlier in the thread and am amazed at the prediction - are these people coming for business, tourists, or sports people? If it is so worrying here with the delta variant that going abroad for a holiday is considered irresponsible, then why on earth would anyone want to visit the UK?
If for family reasons, some of us may have very good reasons to travel abroad, but even so will not do so.

But allowing ourselves to drop all common sense and scientific facts and statistics, and taking daft risks, just out of 'frustration' - is going to help no-one. We are at a difficult cross-roads now in this pandemic- and we all have some responsibility to what happens next- throwing all caution to the wind because we are 'frustrated with this Government's behaviour, would be more than childish- blatantly stupid. Last thing we need is to be back in lockdown by this autumn.

Anyone watching le tour de France this weekend? Village after village in Brittany with hundreds of people lining the route. No social distancing, no masks at all.

The staff at my local library have been pouncing on me as I enter the building demanding that I provide my contact details. I asked them when did it become a legal requirement to do this and they backed off. One staff member decided to verbally attack me for my refusal and demanded to know what my vaccination status was. Again I declined to provide this info and made a complaint. Had I decided to take a book out they would have known exactly who I was from my library card.

I have declined to download the Serco test and trace app onto my smartphone. I have an old phone on PAYG which is not able to download this app and I will always provide this number if asked to sign in. I don’t think that this phone has ever been switched on except to make one call every 3 months to keep the account live. There is nothing illegal about this as I am providing a phone number which belongs to me. But I will not be tracked and traced by this shower of incompetents.
Businesses have to accept that not everyone has the app and are legally allowed to accept a verbal signing in. I’ve been to a few cafes and restaurants in the past few weeks and not one has asked me to provide any details.
I don’t think that many people have any faith in this government and I for one have seriously questioned the “rules” from the start. I have from the start done the mask and space thing in shops etc but no one tells me whether I can or can not hug my children, grandchildren or friends and no one tells me who I can have in my house. No one tells me how many times I can leave my house and go for a walk or to the shops.

It has now come out that these requirements were dressed up as being enforceable through obfuscation and confusing messages but it was never illegal to hug or exercise as much as we want.

We want this pandemic to stop and the only way is to obey the rules. So that is what I have been doing, And doing it for longer than might have been necessary if people had not disobeyed the rules.

I’m certainly not expecting anyone to be impressed but but at least I have used my own gumption and made my own thought through risk assessments. We’re you really taken in by all of the rubbish about only being able to go out once a week….not seeing or hugging family, because I wasn’t. Did you sanitise your groceries or quarantine your post. Did project fear really get to you as it was intended to by this incompetent and manipulative government?
The most important aspect for me was to maintain my own physical and mental health. The two things that were reported to make it more likely that a person would be very ill (or worse) were age, which is something that none of us can do anything about and overweight/obesity. This is something that we can (most of us) do something about. Keeping myself fit and healthy both mentally and physically was the most important thing. I achieved this, have not even sneezed for 15 months and I don’t actually know of anyone who has been ill. At least when we all come out of this I will be fit, healthy and not in the slightest bit anxious about returning to normality which I doubt will be the case for many people.
