I have just about had enough of these contradictory covid19 regulations.

Ok, so I am a law abiding person, I stayed at home, had my shopping delivered, no visitors, masks, hand washing, social distancing, both vaccinations etc., But, now I sit and watch thousands of football fans and Royal Ascot to name just two, at the same time as some bleating windbag of a politician is explaining why we shouldn't dance at a wedding ( other then the bride and groom), can only have limited guests in the church.....I am absolutely sick to the back teeth of the hypocrisy of it. I am going to a wedding in a mid July and the parents ( good friends) are worried sick about managing it all, how many can go into the Church, I told them to just stick a couple of horses in the gardens and we can say it is a race meet ( we will be wearing frocks and hats!), or get a football game going with some of the guests and we can be the spectators? Am I the only one irritated beyond measure?

All well and good if you remain in UK. If you have to travel, for whatever reasons- then it is a different kettle of fish!

And my point was, and still is- that there is absolutely no reason why people coming from much lower infection rates, including DV, have to go through the procedures and cost described above- and not UK travellers going t'other way round.

Kali2 it is down to individual Governments to set their own entry requirements, I guess (and this is only my opinion, not verified) that UK tourists are wanted/required to keep some European resorts from going under, therefore they are happy to welcome them. An item on BBC news pointed out that UK tourists make up 80% of the visitors to Ibiza each year.

If this is bothering you maybe email your MP?

It is not about 'bothering' me- it is a serious concern that those countries are making a choice, on economic grounds, they are likely to seriously regret later, with even worse economic consequences. Personally I would not wish to travel with testing and quarantine, and put other people and countries at serious risk.

No one is twisting your arm to travel anywhere kali2; you should do as you see fit, within the parameters of the law at that time. Just as I, and others, will do. If you feel strongly enough that personal choice should be taken away again, you need to lobby your MP. although he'll probably be away on holiday in the Maldives at the earliest opportunity

Well we are going to a wedding next week. You cant sing in church or dance at the reception, yet football crowds act like nothing is amiss! Something is VERY WRONG.

Kali2 Sun 27-Jun-21 15:06:59

the Law is one thing, common sense, morality and care for others, another.

OnwardandUpward Sun 27-Jun-21 15:14:22

Although if we take a football to church we could say its a football match so we can sing? Not sure how to swing dancing at the reception though.

Crazy times!

And when those who are making the laws behave in accordance with common sense, morality and care for others, so will I. Until then... jog on.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Jun-21 16:01:53

Well I am jogging on out for lunch with family ?

Callistemon Sun 27-Jun-21 16:05:08

Same thing, you dribble a ball around the dance floor, OnwardandUpward!

I’ve been making my own decisions for some time ?
I went to the library last week. They asked me to fill in a form with my details. Yeh, right. Nothing on that form will find me.

I think there’s a quite revolution going on. More and more there are people in stores with no masks. But yesterday evening was a real eye opener. We were in a Greek restaurant. We had booked as its popular and didn’t want to be disappointed.
We were the first people in there but every table after us just walked in off the street. I could see them reading the menu and then deciding to come in. Not one of those people had a mask on.

Yes, I think as long as people keep hearing "Do as I say and not as I do" they will be increasingly frustrated.

Forecasts for 2021 show that the number of overseas visits to the UK is expected to rise to 11.3 million, a 10 percent increase on 2020 visits, but still a significant drop over 2019.
Statista
I quoted that earlier in the thread and am amazed at the prediction - are these people coming for business, tourists, or sports people? If it is so worrying here with the delta variant that going abroad for a holiday is considered irresponsible, then why on earth would anyone want to visit the UK?
If for family reasons, some of us may have very good reasons to travel abroad, but even so will not do so.

the Law is one thing, common sense, morality and care for others, another
So why are the estimated 11.3 million visitors coming here I wonder?

I think most British people intend to holiday in the UK this year.

Football crazy nuts are we, springs to mind. Except I really don't like football. It seems the only way to express yourself these days though, which is totally wrong.

Kali2 Sun 27-Jun-21 17:51:59

''Yes, I think as long as people keep hearing "Do as I say and not as I do" they will be increasingly frustrated.''

of course they are going to be frustrated- we are all going to be really frustrated and more- angry, really *issed off.

But allowing ourselves to drop all common sense and scientific facts and statistics, and taking daft risks, just out of 'frustration' - is going to help no-one. We are at a difficult cross-roads now in this pandemic- and we all have some responsibility to what happens next- throwing all caution to the wind because we are 'frustrated with this Government's behaviour, would be more than childish- blatantly stupid. Last thing we need is to be back in lockdown by this autumn.

Kali2 Sun 27-Jun-21 17:52:39

btw what would the fine and consequences be of giving wrong name and address when going to venue or restaurant, etc- I wonder.

Don’t know, don’t care. I’ve had enough of tossers and shysters telling me what to do and assuming I’m just going to carry on doing it. Wrong!!!!

Kali2 Sun 27-Jun-21 18:12:56

well there is no answer to that ...

God help us.

Ellianne Sun 27-Jun-21 18:31:32

Anyone watching le tour de France this weekend? Village after village in Brittany with hundreds of people lining the route. No social distancing, no masks at all.

MissChateline Sun 27-Jun-21 18:32:52

The staff at my local library have been pouncing on me as I enter the building demanding that I provide my contact details. I asked them when did it become a legal requirement to do this and they backed off. One staff member decided to verbally attack me for my refusal and demanded to know what my vaccination status was. Again I declined to provide this info and made a complaint. Had I decided to take a book out they would have known exactly who I was from my library card.

I have declined to download the Serco test and trace app onto my smartphone. I have an old phone on PAYG which is not able to download this app and I will always provide this number if asked to sign in. I don’t think that this phone has ever been switched on except to make one call every 3 months to keep the account live. There is nothing illegal about this as I am providing a phone number which belongs to me. But I will not be tracked and traced by this shower of incompetents.
Businesses have to accept that not everyone has the app and are legally allowed to accept a verbal signing in. I’ve been to a few cafes and restaurants in the past few weeks and not one has asked me to provide any details.
I don’t think that many people have any faith in this government and I for one have seriously questioned the “rules” from the start. I have from the start done the mask and space thing in shops etc but no one tells me whether I can or can not hug my children, grandchildren or friends and no one tells me who I can have in my house. No one tells me how many times I can leave my house and go for a walk or to the shops.

It has now come out that these requirements were dressed up as being enforceable through obfuscation and confusing messages but it was never illegal to hug or exercise as much as we want.

Luckygirl Sun 27-Jun-21 18:41:58

Well aren't you just the clever one! I am sure we are all very impressed.

Sarcasm is I know the lowest form of wit, but how can one reply to this politely?

We want this pandemic to stop and the only way is to obey the rules. So that is what I have been doing, And doing it for longer than might have been necessary if people had not disobeyed the rules.

Sigh.

Chewbacca Sun 27-Jun-21 19:00:30

Zilch. Nada. Nowt. Nothing. At. All.

MissChateline I've now come to the stage where I agree with you.

MissChateline Sun 27-Jun-21 19:01:22

I’m certainly not expecting anyone to be impressed but but at least I have used my own gumption and made my own thought through risk assessments. We’re you really taken in by all of the rubbish about only being able to go out once a week….not seeing or hugging family, because I wasn’t. Did you sanitise your groceries or quarantine your post. Did project fear really get to you as it was intended to by this incompetent and manipulative government?
The most important aspect for me was to maintain my own physical and mental health. The two things that were reported to make it more likely that a person would be very ill (or worse) were age, which is something that none of us can do anything about and overweight/obesity. This is something that we can (most of us) do something about. Keeping myself fit and healthy both mentally and physically was the most important thing. I achieved this, have not even sneezed for 15 months and I don’t actually know of anyone who has been ill. At least when we all come out of this I will be fit, healthy and not in the slightest bit anxious about returning to normality which I doubt will be the case for many people.

MissChateline Sun 27-Jun-21 19:03:41

Chewbacca…..thank you.

Luckygirl Sun 27-Jun-21 19:11:54

It's all me, me, me.

We get through this pandemic TOGETHER.

Unless, of course, you're a footballer, a football fan, a cricketer, an MP, a Grand Prix enthusiast who wants to go to Silverston, a respected government adviser (preferably one who advises everyone else on pandemics but ignores his own advice), a zed list sleb, a demonstrator (for BLM, civil rights for students, women and climate change) or an international traveller who decides that their reasons for moving around the world is "essential".

Other than them EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD FOLLOW THE ROOLZ.
