Interestingly on my last visit to Berlin I noted that there was barely a black/brown face to be seen. I found it very puzzling, especially as this was post 2015. To be honest it disturbed me. Where are Germany’s ethnic minorities? It would be normal to expect to see some integration, in my opinion.

As a white female it is not for me to say if a black females views on racism in the U.K. are right or wrong.

Follow this thinking to its logical conclusion, and no one can have any thoughts or ideas about anything that isnt within the sphere of their physical being.
What happened to empathy, imagination, discussion, experience?

Post war Germany hasn't had the integration in its society that we have experienced here.
There immigrant workers didn't have many rights for years.

I like to think I have all those attributes in your last sentence, and up till I spent a month in Kenya, often my DH, AC and wife were the only white folks in a shop, restaurant and even a small hotel I would have discussed at length this topic.

Having now been in a position of being a minority my mindset has changed. It is impossible to know how a BAME person feels inside. We might think we do as we listen/read/absorb information on racism but it’s certainly not the same as living somewhere knowing you are in the minority and that some (ignorant) folks look down on you.

One of our AC lived in Germany for six years, it is remarkable white .

The only BAME faces we saw were on either the USA or British Military Bases.

‘Kemi Badenoch violated me, assaulted the free press and still refuses to apologise’ - Nadine White

Still grieving the loss of her sister to Covid, journalist Nadine White was doing her job when she asked the equalities minister a question. She never expected to be publicly shamed by the MP.

As Labour calls for an investigation into Badenoch's behaviour, White says what happened to her sets a dangerous precedent, threatening the role of a free press

Being successful in the UK if black?

It has a lot to do with a country’s history, contrary to what some would have you believe.

vegansrock Wed 30-Jun-21 15:13:03

Unless you are black and have lived in every country of the world you can’t show evidence for this fatuous statement.
There were a couple of black players in the German football team btw.

vegansrock Wed 30-Jun-21 15:14:25

There is still disadvantage for black people in the U.K., it’s not an even playing field as some like to believe.

Assuming that there is sufficient evidence to challenge academic findings on the subject, I think that these false facts are just that.

varian Wed 30-Jun-21 21:47:26

I would not challenge these academic findings, Most black people in the UK are disadvantaged because of their ethnicity.

However there are exceptions - black people who have advantage because of their wealth or the wealth and good connections of their parents.

People like Kemi Badenoch have less in common with the average black person in the UK than they have with their fellow wealthy and privileged Conservatives.

Germany, more racist than UK, that from my West African born DBIL.

theworriedwell Thu 01-Jul-21 09:01:04

Lin52 that is a sweeping statement. I've pointed out before that we have lived in different parts of the UK and found a huge difference. Moving to the South West was more like moving back to the 50s according to my husband.

Your DBIL might have lived in a different part of UK and a different part of Germany and found the opposite. I don't know about Germany but I do know about UK.

I find that really puzzling because Berlin has a huge Turkish-heritage population.

From Wiki:

As of December 2013 there were approximately 1,000,000 people (about 30 percent of the population) with an immigrant background living in Berlin, with significant differences in their distribution. The immigrant community is diverse, with Middle Easterners (including [[Turkish and Kurdish people and Arabs), smaller numbers of East Asians, Sub-Saharan Africans and other European immigrants, Eastern Europeans forming the largest groups.[17][18] Since the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the European Union there has been a Romani influx. About 70,000 Afro-Germans live in Berlin.

"There are more than 25 non-indigenous communities with a population of at least 10,000 people, including Turkish, Kurdish,Polish, Russian, Croatian, Palestinian, Serbian, Italian, Bosnian, Vietnamese, American, Romanian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Austrian, Ghanaian, Ukrainian, French, British, Spanish, Israeli, Thai, Iranian, Egyptian and Syrian communities."
