“Recollections may vary”. Harry and Meghan (again - I know!)

This may be a pot shot too far, now they seem to be including the Queen in their self- righteous whingeing.
(Not that I am biased)
Apparently Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe the Queen failed to take “full ownership” of the race allegations made in their interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to the authors of the unauthorised biography Finding Freedom.
A “friend of the couple” (unnamed, of course) has apparently told Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand that the Queen’s lack of action had prevented the Duke and Duchess from moving on from the claims.
The source also suggested that the Queen’s assertion that “recollections may vary” had not gone down well.
(It did however rank IMHO as one of HM’s all-time greatest bons mots )
The Queen has until now been one of the only senior members of the Royal family to escape the Sussexes’ criticism, but this new epilogue to Finding Freedom, published in People magazine in the US, suggests that the Duke and Duchess feel frustrated that the Duke’s grandmother did not follow through with her promise to address their concerns.
It says: “The Queen’s ‘recollections may vary’ comment ‘did not go unnoticed’ by the couple, who a close source said were ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken
Just one question, if this book is “unauthorised”, does it or does it not reflect their views? Or is it an example of letting somebody else put words in their mouths so that they can deny them afterwards if necessary? All these “unnamed friends,” and “close sources” - aye, right.

They need to keep the pot boiling or they have nothing to offer.

Another story yesterday was about whether the Beckhams are likely to invite both William and Harry to their own son's wedding, and if not both, which one.

Interesting, if true.
William is President of the Football Association.

maddyone Thu 19-Aug-21 16:28:32

Well that’s it then, William and Catherine will get the invite.
Mind you, the Beckhams are more terminally boring and just as self important as the Sussexes, so maybe the Sussexes will get the invite! The Beckhams and the Sussexes deserve each other. Both couples come over as self entitled and so utterly full of themselves. Thank God they won’t invite me to the wedding.

I find it very hard to understand their game plan. They could have moved to California, lived in a beautiful house, kept on good terms with the RF and made a living, perhaps making benign documentaries about their famous friends, and relatives, or travelling to their beloved Africa and doing good. But the self-obsessed entitled pair go around looking for slights and trouble, endlessly complaining about their lives and taking potshots at one of the most respected women in the world. What do they hope to achieve? It makes me think Meghan isn't as bright as she was billed. And as for angry-looking Harry, I reckon he's completely lost the plot. I suspect the loyal RF is quietly waiting to pick up the pieces in a few months.

I think you’ve cracked it there.??

It's enough to turn me to drink wine wine I will just go and pour another glass! Can't take much more of M & H.

AGAA4 Thu 19-Aug-21 17:02:43

I just wonder what they will do next in their attention seeking quest.
How low can they go?

Sorry folks but I still believe Meghan and Harry were hounded out of this country by the tabloid press and those who support said red tops. M&H could have been brilliant. Far enough from the throne to be more outspoken than William and Kate but close enough to make an impact. Don’t you think it is significant that those newspapers who profess to despise them and reckon too much is written about them - write the most stories!? It is all such a shame the way that whatever H&M say is twisted and misinterpreted. I also still believe that racism had a lot to do with their exile.

Oh well, all entitled to their own point of view.

merlotgran Thu 19-Aug-21 19:46:12

Am I the only one who thinks Omid Scobie looks like Nick in The Handmaid’s Tale?

I always want to boo and hiss when I see either of them.

Callistemon Thu 19-Aug-21 19:49:21

M&H could have been brilliant.
I think most of us thought that.

But we've realised with hindsight that it was never the long-term plan.

Smileless2012 Thu 19-Aug-21 19:57:42

I think Omid Scabie is a more appropriate name.

TBH Ladyleftfieldlover there's no need for anyone to twist or misinterpret what H & M say, their false and unsubstantiated allegations speak for themselves.

Racism had nothing to do with their 'excile' but I suppose as long as there are some who'll believe what they say, they'll keep on saying it.

Dickens Thu 19-Aug-21 20:50:54

... this is all from an UNAUTHORISED biography with information coming from "sources close to the couple" and various other unnamed individuals.

I think my scorn is for the author(s) of this unauthorised biography who are milking the current broohaha and stirring the anti M&H pot.

I've no particular regard for the couple, and they've certainly made mistakes, but let's be honest here... the media are exploiting this for all it's worth and I find it a bit distasteful that it's becoming more and more acceptable to verbally 'mob' someone to the point where it almost becomes a campaign.

I'm not interested in what he said/she said... I'm not a Royalist anyway, though I do have some respect and admiration for the Queen... but I wish everyone would just leave the family alone to sort out their grievances. Maybe if M&H were not continually attacked from every quarter, they would also quieten down and not keep giving statements and interviews. It's a vicious circle and it feeds on itself. And, truth be told, do we REALLY know what went on, or what was said, or not said, within the family?

This is my only comment on the subject and I'll not make any more because I don't want to be part of the 'witch hunt' against M&H - or indeed (from the opposing side) - against the Queen.

lemongrove Thu 19-Aug-21 21:27:14

No Dickens they haven’t made mistakes, it was all well planned.
Making a mistake is something quite different.

M0nica Thu 19-Aug-21 21:27:17

I understand that the authors were assisted by friends very close to H&M and that it is commonly understood that while this biography is officially unofficial, the friends were well briefed by friends so close to the couple it was almost impossible to tell them apart. A bit like the last chapter of Animal Farm.

I don't think having been an actress made the Duchess an ideal candidate to be a royal. The Lady seems intent on having her own way in all things. I think it's a very sad thing that having been given life n a platter here courtesy of the Queen that they are both giving her anxiety and sadness. As for these flowery statements of love and humanity they don't seem to be including Harry's family in their scheme. My mother would have said it will all end in tears.

Galaxy Fri 20-Aug-21 07:35:44

To be fair anything to do with the royal family ends in tears as far as I can see.
