Brexit finally being recognised as one of the causes of the crises

I lost my job. Company closed down and moved to the EU. Husband's source of contracts dried up, he doesn't have any now.

Several friends went home, I'll probably not see them again.

Will that do UG?

Ahh... so it’s very personal for you, and I get it. Sorry to hear that. My husband was affected as well. He was working on European research projects ( semi retired).

However, it’s about the greater good...eventually, for everyone. Much like the vaccine. Some people will have been affected by it. Very ill in some cases. The majority will be advantaged, which is what we want isn’t it?

We have to think about the younger people now, and their futures, but I do appreciate why you’re angry.

Same with DD. Works for a global pharmaceutical - saw hundreds of jobs go. Site she was working on broken up and gone to various countries in Europe. Many if her friends lost their highly paid, highly skilled jobs. Those that were able went to Europe or back home to Europe. All those skilled people lost.

DD now works remotely for their HQ.

Have read a lot of vitriole towards the current government on this forum... cronyism, elitism, running the show for themselves. But the British people voted for Brexit and this government stepped up to the plate and got the job done. Democracy in action!
Forgive me but I get the impression most 'remain' posters here are also anti government as they vote Labour. But Labour didn't want to do the will of the British people and were surprised they lost by a landslide. They are either idiots or fanatics. If fanatical they would likely have followed their own whims, looked after their mates (used to be unions) and probably made just a big a hash of things.
Would be nice to see a party that offers a viable alternative for the British voter...

That’s unfair. Yes, many people have been adversely affected by brexit but I’m pretty sure that their stance against brexit isn’t purely due to personal reasons. Everyone I know who were anti brexit could see how bad it would be for the country as a whole. And we’re seeing the effects now. The ‘friends’ I’ve lost over brexit were people that had, throughout the years, thrown racist comments into conversations which I had ignored so I don’t miss their friendship.

I actually went and hung out the washing before I answered this, to let the anger subside a bit.

The greater good? Maybe I'm old and ready for the scrap heap, but the 120 people put out of work when the company closed down ranged in age from about 20 to about 60. The premises are still standing empty, so rent lost, area becoming run down because there's nothing to replace us.

DH can no longer employ people. Usually it was young people at the start of their careers. Ah well, greater good and all that. Gave his premises up, so its standing empty too.

The majority will not be advantaged and as for thinking about the younger people, well the ones I know aren't exactly hanging out the flags to celebrate the disaster that awaits us.

Your really have no idea.

This is why I'm not friends with any Leave voters.

Those of us who wanted to remain in the EU should blame Brexit, where blame is due, in order to highlight the lies we were told by BJ and his cronies. They have made a mess of our British way of life and need to be voted out at the first opportunity.

The only thing that keeps me sane is the prospect that we'll sail off into the sunset and leave you all to stew in your juices.

Not anecdotal, but I know two people whose lives have been very severely affected/. by Brexit.

It's the younger people who have had their opportunities narrowed. Thinking of younger people, I've just remembered another person (a young one) whose life has been very severely impacted by Brexit.

I just wish I knew what this 'greater good' actually is. Because it sure as hell isn't manifesting itself in any way at the moment.

Me for one. I can no longer work in Europe. I'm now in the same category as Americans. Far too hard to get visas for.

When I worked in Spain, I ONLY got the job (last minute application) because the school couldn't get a visa for an American they had recruited 4 months before. Now I'm in the 'can't get a visa' category.

It wasn't 'the will of the British people'. I wish people would stop quoting from the fascist instruction manual. It was the will of 37% of the British electorate. It wasn't 'the will' of nearly 17 million people.

It was a referendum which has been acknowledged to have been so faulty that, had it been mandatory (obliged in law to be implemented) it would have been overturned and rerun.

LOTS of young people are angry. Those who worked in Europe periodically. I know a few.

Mostly, the young DIDN'T want Brexit, so why paint it as something done for them?

Instead of us telling everyone how we have been negatively affected by Brexit, can anyone tell us how Brexit has been good for them? No anecdotes please. And no "it will be better in the future" either.

City of London was the centre for Euro derivatives financial services which earned billions ( yes billions) for the U.K. economy. This is now steadily draining away to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris. Along with hundreds of jobs and related service jobs. DIRECTLY due to Brexit - how can that be a benefit to anyone? Apart from the EU obviously.
