Is Macron sabre rattling?
(219 Posts)What do we think?
Tomorrow he has to put up or shut up I think.
To be fair JRM did read History at Trinity College, Oxford. I guess we all gravitate towards our own learnings a bit to get a point across!
Think it was funny what Mogg said, rather tongue in cheek,
Where you stand depends on where you sit, of course. I don't see that comment as 'tongue in cheek' amusing. I see it as pathetic, rude and deliberately encouraging unthinking 'patriotism'.
Rees Mogg apologists remind me of people who defend making sexist, ageist or racist comments/jokes as just indulging in a bit of banter.
Not much of a point though is it Josianne. Do you know any French people who get upset in October because of Azincourt?
I don't. ???

But in this day and age we shouldn't be making 'we won x,y,z battle/war' remarks. It's very childish.
And, TBH, if you've studied history you should be aware of the past mistakes which led to conflict and doing your best to avoid them. Not indulging in 'nerr, nerr, ni, nerr, nerr', 'my dad's bigger than your dad' rhetoric.
What is a low was for France to brief against AZ vaccine.
It was a low when French and the EU stopped vaccine delivery to Australia.
It was a low when the French president accused Morrison of lying.
So .... Scott Morrison defends himself by letting us know that Macron did know about the sub deal going rogue. The French even sent generals to Australia to discuss the situation prior to the AUKUS deal announcement.
Macron is now a busted flush and he should be called out on his bluffs every time. Hence he walks out of Cop26 in a huff.
Macron deserves everything he gets. Aussies take no crap. Neither should the UK.

No I don't either Mamie!

The Scotsman seems to refute you claim that the Fishing boat is owned by a Canadian company.
I’ve serched for evidence of your claim but no joy.

Henry Vth was not Welsh. He was born at Monmouth Castle in 1386, hence his name Henry of Monmouth. He was the grandson of John of Gaunt, who was the third son of of Edward 111rd. Yes Katherine of Aragon acting as regent did lead the English army against the Scots. The battle of Flodden field resulting in the death of James 1Vth of Scotland who was HenryV111th son in law! Fascinating stuff history with all its twists and turns. Never listen or watch Jeremy Vine, not my COT at all, so can't comment on that.
In your dreams Urmstongran. ???

The two active directors listed in Macduff Seafood's returns on the Companies House website are both Canadian.
They have an Aberdeen address for company correspondence.

Did you know that History is the second most popular degree subject after politics in terms of MPs studies at university?
I have a soft spot for Katherine of Aragon. If only it wasn't for Flodden
.
Flodden was 1513, Agincourt was about a hundred years before, I think?
Then there was another battle a hundred years before that, in 1314. But we don't talk about it, no use picking over old battles to upset the losers.

I've looked them up at Companies House.
Interesting that their Directors are Canadian...

Have a look at the filing history of Macduff Shellfish Group Ltd.
Macron deserves everything he gets. Aussies take no crap. Neither should the UK.
I've lived in France and I've lived in Australia.
The French don't have fistfights in their parliament and I never felt the need to refer to any of their contemporary politicians as "The Liar", unlike some recent Australian politicians.
Being a larrikin isn't great for international politics.
They have an Aberdeen address for company correspondence.
When I looked them up a few days ago it seems that the official address they're using is also the address of about 100 other companies!
Here are a few of them; the result of a search on the Macduff Shellfish registered office address

James 1Vth chose to launch an invasion, so you can't really blame Katherine for Flodden. I presume the battle in 1214 was the battle of Bouvines. A French victory against a coalition that included King John. No problem with mentioning it, any more than any other French victory, including the loss of Calais. That's the joy of the cut and thrust history.
1314. Nowhere near France.
And I don't blame Katherine at all; it was an ill-judged incursion into England and they let the blood rush to their heads when they all charged down that hill.
I am a bit confused about the leaked text message. Macron asks if it is good or bad news about the submarine deal, but we don't have Morrison's reply? Isn't that the crux of the matter?

It would be more useful to him and the country if he had studied geography! Raab was also found missing in this department- and many here too who shout 'fight fight fight' like bad girls in the school yard.
Geography is actually one of the top degrees for research and analytical skills. Human geography might be good for politicians because it is a social science focusing on issues relating to human communities and cultures. What did Raab read at university anyway?
Students with degrees in Geography are some of the most employable. Our eldest son went down the scientific route.
Didn’t Katherine of Aragon fight a war and win against the Scots?
At the time of Agincourt that is.

I don't think she was born then ?
Catherine de Valois married Henry V and became Queen of England.

That was Cheryl Cole I believe, in more ways than one Kali.
Actually the song is the background music for David Attenborough's The Mating Game which explores how animals keep their species reproducing. Quite apt really under the circumstances of Cop26 etc.
Love how this thread has meandered. ?

One of ours went down that route, too, Josanne.
When he was doing his first degree,I remember someone sneering and asking how knowing where places were could possibly get him a decent job.
How little they knew of what a geography degree actually entails. Worse still was that the comment came from a retired teacher!
