Just watching him in Parliament. He’s now quoting Shakespeare……

Kali2 Wed 03-Nov-21 14:54:57

Just to waste tie and not answer questions-

the Speaker should never allow him, them, to get away with this!

MayBee70 Wed 03-Nov-21 14:59:46

I’m appalled by what is happening. So much for democracy. The whole thing stinks….

MayBee70 Wed 03-Nov-21 15:00:28

The system threw up an answer they didn’t like so they’re trying to change the system….

MayBee70 Wed 03-Nov-21 15:07:35

One Conservative MP intervened and has just said he can’t support it but I missed who he was.

MayBee70 Wed 03-Nov-21 15:21:22

Aaron Bell. I’ve just thanked him.

Is this about the vote that just got carried by the government by a majority of 18 votes?

Scones Wed 03-Nov-21 16:14:57

This vote is a new low.

Luckygirl Wed 03-Nov-21 16:17:36

What is the bill under discussion?

MayBee70 Wed 03-Nov-21 16:20:29

The one about Owen Patterson’s suspension. The committee didn’t reach the conclusion the government wanted so they want to change the rules. Or something like that….

growstuff Wed 03-Nov-21 16:38:08

Absolutely disgusting. The government has reached an all-time low.

NannyJan53 Wed 03-Nov-21 16:46:49

Let us hope this is remembered at the next election. I fear not though, as people have short memories.

MaizieD Wed 03-Nov-21 17:19:23

So that's MP corruption fully approved of by our government; who even want to change the rules to accommodate it.

Do our tory voters approve?

MaizieD Wed 03-Nov-21 17:20:09

Yes it is, Ug. Do you have anything to say about it?

I thought Johnson was finished when he tried to unlawfully prorogue parliament but look where we are now. He has a huge majority in parliaments, has got rid of the MP’s like Grieve that saw him for what he is and can do pretty much what he likes. On top of that we’ve got the weakest speaker I can ever remember. I keep thinking that there must be some decent people left in government and now and again one of them will emerge from the cesspit but when it happens it’s short lived and they sink back down again. Today one MP was talking about a problem one of his constituents was having and MP’s were just mocking him. I still think it’s time parliament dragged itself into the modern age. MP’s should be able to stay in their seats and vote secretly. All this lining up outside and division bells etc should be consigned to history. Just when I think I can’t be more ashamed of this government something like this happens. And yet people say there is no alternative. They obviously aren’t seeing what I’m seeing.

John Bercow has said:
The process leading to the ban was indefensible and wasn’t conducted in accordance with natural justice
And you have experienced a protracted Kafkaesque process
Damning words from someone who knows the workings of parliament inside out.

growstuff Wed 03-Nov-21 18:11:11

What's "natural justice"?

Have you ever read any Kafka?

Paterson knew the rules and he broke them.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 03-Nov-21 18:11:43

I didn’t think this lot could sink any lower but this is one thing they are world beating. We are very near becoming a dictator led country, one that changes the rules to keep them in power. Disgusting lot. Would they have done this if it had been any other MP from a different party, I think not

westendgirl Wed 03-Nov-21 18:21:30

Johnson actually said in P.M's questions that "paid advocacy is wrong".
This obviously does not apply to members of the Tory party. Another example, and another rule for everyone else of one rule for them .How can people support this duplicitous, hypocritical excuse for a government?

westendgirl Wed 03-Nov-21 18:24:56

Sorry should have read it first...should read
Another example of one rule for them and another rule for everyone else.
Feeling so cross

I do MaizieD. I’ve been out childminding & just got home hence my absence.

I think Paterson may or may not be corrupt but his guilt or innocence should be decided upon by fair and unbiased people. Stone has form when it comes to bias. People seem to be conflating Paterson's possible wrongdoing with Stone's unfitness for her position.

Can you give us a link, or clarify the context please, MerylStreep?

His conduct was investigated by the independent Commission for Parliamentary Standards. How much more 'fair and 'unbiased' do you want?

Perhaps a Court of Law?

What form? Maybe you could explain rather than repeating something you you've read.

Urmstongran Wed 03-Nov-21 19:03:07

What this really comes down to is not the report, the committee, or the approval. If Patterson had never been born I would still think Stone should not be a standards commissioner.
