An extract from a News report:

Meghan yesterday apologised to a court for not telling a judge about emails showing her attempts to influence a biography about her and Prince Harry, saying: “I forgot.”

I wonder what else she forgot?!!

I suppose if I say cheerio, I have better things to do I'll be castigated ?

Off to see my own birthday Princess

maddyone Sat 13-Nov-21 15:40:35

I feel sorry for the two children because they know none of their two families except Doria.

If TM is able to make a bit of money from giving an interview, fair enough. Harry and Meghan are making money from lots of things, in particular Netflix and Spotify. Why is it wrong for TM to make a bit of money?

Alegrias1 Sat 13-Nov-21 15:42:43

What I find it fascinating is why so many people find it fascinating....wink

And I know the difference between royal and aristocratic.

I don't. They're all just posh types who have no impact on my life whatsoever.

maddyone Sat 13-Nov-21 15:52:33

They are all posh types who have no impact on any of our lives, but at the end of the day, people do find them interesting. It doesn’t do any harm for people to discuss any of them on Gransnet. When all is said and done, the royals are regularly in the news, whether it’s newspapers or television news. In that sense, it’s difficult to get away from what they’re up to, unless you avoid all news outlets forever.

Peasblossom Sat 13-Nov-21 16:09:31

Is it because their royal?

I have to say that in the village I grew up in any family saga like this would have been talked about for years.

And we were all totally common ?

Peasblossom Sat 13-Nov-21 16:10:05

they’re

common and illiterate apparently ?

Peasblossom Sat 13-Nov-21 16:13:01

In fact, the cousin who fleeced everyone in the family of £20 and thereby ended up with a very tidy sum is still a hot topic of conversation, 30 years later?

Meghan has had to be manipulative and calculating to get where she is. Being a subservient part of the RF did not grab her. She grabbed Harry and ran. So long as he goes along with her their marriage is probably fine. Unfortunately they have had to tell untruths to keep in the limelight and make money, lots of it by all accounts. Meghan has climbed the slippery pole but it’s not called slippery for nothing.

She cannot be charged with perjury as she did not tell lies to the judge. We all form our own conclusions from the I forgot. The Mail are fighting an Appeal case so there may be more to come. Better she hadn’t persued the Mail. The edifice of lies is collapsing around her. Oprey has gone very quiet.

Bluebellwould Sat 13-Nov-21 16:26:05

Why do we chat about M and H? I chat about them because I live on my own and through circumstances have no friends left. I haven’t been out the house since May and apart from the tv I have little social interaction. The chats about them are one of the things that we all, to different levels, know about. I could post on here about my cats or my hobbies but no one else knows them. I don’t want to chat about politics or health or the weather, so love them or loathe them they are a common thread.
I think they are fair game to comment on as they have put themselves out there. They have appointed themselves as saviours of the world and haven’t kept themselves private as they stated. There is very little discussion of William and Catherine, possibly due to the fact that they are not constantly lecturing us and then doing the opposite.

Giving interviews criticising his daughter seems to be his main income source now. You do wonder how he would manage if they just faded into the background.

Fat chance of that ever happening!

eazybee Sat 13-Nov-21 17:27:33

Yes, you are absolutely right, Lemongrove. It is like a Greek tragedy: hubris, tempting the gods, fate, all depicted within the framework of the family. Look at the Plantagenets, or the House of Hanover for father/son/sibling conflict.
Royalty and aristocracy are fascinating simply because their lives are better documented than ours and the results of their actions used to influence nationwide events.
Now they fuel the media.

Nothing to do with deference, although the Queen has earned respect because of how she has lived her life, not who she is.

Smileless2012 Sat 13-Nov-21 17:53:52

I don't idolise the RF Alegrias in fact I don't consider myself to be a royalist but I do respect the Queen for her life time of service.

I don't like liars and hypocrites who ever they are. I don't like people spreading malicious false allegations and I don't like people whose mantra appears to be 'do as I say and not as I do'.

Anniebach Sat 13-Nov-21 18:02:10

The same for me as Bluebellwould

Galaxy Sat 13-Nov-21 18:11:59

The royal family has always been like a Greek tragedy, this is just another one of its chapters, I sort of think that may be its purpose.

PamelaJ1 Sat 13-Nov-21 18:26:43

Peasblossom ???

Josianne Sat 13-Nov-21 18:42:46

As I see it, there should not be any shame or embarrassment attached to wanting to talk about Meghan and Harry on here. If an OP generates in excess of 100 posts on a thread then there is obviously a certain amount of not necessarily obsessive interest. Like in a Greek tragedy, or even in a Shakespearean tragedy, these ancient family themes are timeless and universal, but strangely enough people never tire of analysing them, and why not? In fact I get the impression that some people might even be waiting for the next act to be revealed, because for sure it isn't over yet!

trisher Sun 14-Nov-21 11:34:13

Funny isn't it the RF can fix and dodge taxes. Be linked with paedophiles. Make racist comments. and generally behave like self aggrandising feudal lords and get away with it. But decide you don't like them and get out and you will be hounded and criticised forever more.

Sparklefizz Sun 14-Nov-21 11:40:16

^ But decide you don't like them and get out and you will be hounded and criticised forever more.^

Not "hounded and criticised for getting out" but criticised for the sneaky way in which they did it, for the way they have treated people, and for the lies and hypocrisy.

CraftyGranny Sun 14-Nov-21 13:17:38

I read somewhere that Meghan's half Brother said that Harry stopped smiling when he married her!

Calistemon Sun 14-Nov-21 13:25:35

They're all just posh types who have no impact on my life whatsoever.

Well, they do have some impact on your life Alegerias because without them, we'd have to have yet another bloody expensive election every four years with utterly pointless, lying campaigning, a president who may want a new and expensive presidential palace etc etc, then the next First Woman or First Man will want it all refurbished again etc.
They'll all be gossips about in the media.

plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

But you only think it's important or interesting, (I'm guessing, I know!) because you think stories about an aristocrat with a high profile granny, and his wife, are important and interesting.

Yeah, you're guessing, Alegrias

I'm just happy with the status quo.

Now, where did I put my 1952 scrapbook ....

Calistemon Sun 14-Nov-21 13:29:51

You can chat about your cats and hobbies, other posters do.
One of my grand-cats got duffed up last night, poor thing, he is such a wuss.

As opposed to another bloody expensive family that we all have to pay for that think they are ordained by God and that we all have to defer to?

Funnily enough I've never thought that one of the criticisms for not having democracy is that it would cost money.

Calistemon Sun 14-Nov-21 13:32:56

But you only think it's important or interesting, (I'm guessing, I know!) because you think stories about an aristocrat with a high profile granny, and his wife, are important and interesting.

So why are you on the Royal threads, then, if they are of no interest to you, Alegrias? Serious question.
I don't think I'm the only one to be confused by that.

If I'm not at all interested in a subject I tend to skip past

I read somewhere that Meghan's half Brother said that Harry stopped smiling when he married her!

That's odd then as I've just google imaged Meghan and Harry and he has the hugest smile in almost every one of them.

If the energy expended on conversation about these two young people could be harnessed COP26 needn't have happened. smile
