There is so much hatred in some people. You can ask that question of anyone who plans and makes a bomb in order to kill and maim. I do not know this man's background but many men in his culture treat women as second class citizens. Was that why a maternity hospital was targeted? Don't the authorities make sure that someone not entitled to live here gets deported? That is one reason why people are concerned at the numbers of migrants reaching our shores. The UK has no effective Border Control and sifting through these people takes far too long. Common sense has to tell you that amongst those coming here for a better life there must be a percentage who are anti-UK.

Remember the UK National Threat Level has now been raised from substantial to SEVERE. I'm guessing they suspect an attack is highly likely.

We have no idea who these people are arriving on our shores, or what their intentions are.

He converted to Christianity in 2017 to further his application for asylum, but clearly was not a Christian at all, so maybe he had indeed been planning this for years. He had been preparing for the attack for months anyway.

Of course not, but we have a better chance of keeping track of their criminal activities than someone about who we have no information at all.

Jumping to conclusions? I've just stated facts. Any conclusions drawn from those facts are logical ones and not based on prejudice. Are you happy to let anyone in the world enter the country when we know nothing about them which could put lives at risk?

We’re on the outskirts of the city and I must admit I’ve felt quite anxious since the attack. Fairly frequent daily updates on the local news reports, but a bit difficult to know what’s fact and what’s conjecture. Apparently he was a failed asylum seeker, and seemingly only converted to Christianity to further his application. Reports coming in now say there’s evidence that he’s been planning the attack since April, but the motive is still unclear - another couple of addresses searched in the last two days but nothing specific about what, if anything, was found. He was known to the police for ‘knife related offences’, but again, nothing really specific about the circumstances.

The remembrance service in Liverpool was moved from the city centre Cenotaph to the Anglican cathedral because of road works and it’s thought that this was the target of a suicide bombing. It’s unclear as to why the taxi ended up at the hospital, but it’s situated close to the city centre and it’s thought that because the service had been moved, the man was confused as to where he was going, acting suspiciously and so the taxi driver diverted to get help. There are some reports - not sure how accurate they are -saying that the bomb didn’t detonate properly and that had the man reached his intended target the loss of life would have been significant.

Not much has been reported about the taxi driver in the aftermath - presumably we’ll hear a bit more once the police have all the information.

British born they may be and although I do not know the statistics I feel sure the vast majority of them are decent people. I certainly worked with some lovely colleagues during my time in the NHS. In a way, being British born makes it worse. Why attack your own country? Whether we like it or not there are those living in the UK who will do us harm. If they are so opposed to our way of life why stay here?
