Gaga Jo. Sound as selfish as the "asylum seekers" who are determined to access our welfare system by not obeying the rules and entering the country without permission! No problem with people who fill in forms and arrive here openly and don't break rules even as they arrive.
I think you should research the issue you are commenting on before you post.
"Asylum seekers" - inverted commas are not needed. Asylum seekers are a legitimate group of people.
They do NOT access our welfare system because as asylum seekers, they are not allowed to. They receive an allowance - a fixed sum depending on their needs. It is budgeted for because we are a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention. The sum they receive is roughly the same as they get in any other country which has signed up to the same Convention.
As for "filling in forms" - some of the countries they are fleeing don't even have consular services, nor forms to fill in. And if you are fleeing from barrel bombs and war - or a wilderness laid bare through famine, or a climate catastrophe with no food, no water - or persecution from your own government - where, pray, do you think these people should find these forms, if they even exist?
... and they are arriving "openly", because they are not breaking any law, they do not need permission to claim asylum.
We have a duty to either accept or reject asylum claims under the rules of the 1951 refugee convention, to which we are a signatory.
And just in case you also believe they are all living the life of luxury in 5 star hotels - pre-pandemic the accommodation they were usually housed in does not allow for social-distancing because it is cramped with bunk-beds, so the government are utilising available rooms in hotels - most of which are budget hotels. If 5 star hotels are used, it is because they have vacant rooms - probably not utilised because of the pandemic.
I'm telling you this because your comment is inflammatory and ill-informed, and you are helping to spread and fan the flames of anti-immigrant rhetoric.
