The Times reports Lindsay Hall is asking Police to investigate after 11 of 12 areas tested showed trace of cocaine. The sites included the toilets near the offices of Mr Johnson and Ms Patel

Isn't there another thread on here about Smoking Pot?

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 08:59:08

Yea, but nobody went to the house of commons to do it.

grannyrebel7 Mon 06-Dec-21 09:13:06

I would imagine 'Jon Bon Govi' was the main culprit going on his past performance in that night club! BTW that was the only Boris joke I ever found funny smile

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 09:16:50

grin

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 06-Dec-21 09:20:32

I suppose journalists working in the HoC would use the loos too.

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 09:21:37

I think that will be the get out clause..

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 06-Dec-21 09:26:51

I would think that so many people have passes, it would be impossible to prove who'd been taking drugs in the absence of, say, CCTV evidence (and hopefully they don't film people using the loos!).

The accusation for Gove was drink not drugs. It would have been about the time his marriage was breaking up/had broken up. I think at times of complete stress like that a little latitude is allowed.

He is a not a Charles Kennedy, who was an alcoholic and died of it. A lot of latitude was shown to him, as has at times been shown to other alcoholic MPs.

... I must admit I thought it was drink and not drugs.

Can't abide the man personally, but lots of people simply drink too much during stressful episodes in their lives.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

So ministers lavatories? I suppose it is feasible that the cleaners use the lavatories as a cocaine station.

Especially as cocaine costs from £40 a line and they on average work an 18 hour week for £11 per hour - excluding breaks.

Just think how much cocaine their wage would buy!

Hetty58 Mon 06-Dec-21 09:34:22

I'm surprised that it's 'news' as I'd think it's found everywhere people can afford it. Top models and judges are fond of it - but not the 'crack' type. Why not legalise and tax it, like alcohol?

The Westminster Estate is far more than The House of Commons and The House of Lords. There are offices, meeting rooms, restaurants, bars along with the chapel and Westminster Hall.

The footfall is enormous, everyone has to be checked in and out. Drug Sniffer dogs should be able to locate illegal substances, but only those individuals who are guilty on the day the dogs are deployed. Which is why random use of dogs could be a deterrent.

There have long been rumours that drug taking is rife, so it's not a new thing.
Still Johnson is bringing in hard measures, so that'll be good.

I guess Westminster just mirrors the U.K.

Some folks smoke, some drink, some indulge in illegal substances whilst others are tea total and claim to be pure as driven snow.

I do take exception that it is being assumed/alleged that it is Conservative MPs/Ministers as opposed to opposition MPs and Shadow Ministers who are being accused drug abuse is found in all strata’s of society and across the political divide. Unless there is a mechanism of signing in each time a lavatory is used, who can say for definite who was in there?

I guess it is just more proof of how unpopular this current Government is on GN and further afield.

Can you remember the video of Gove totally off his head? In the HofC

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 10:00:55

I'm sure it's the lot of them, grannygravy.
Conservative/labour - across the board.
But of course, most people aren't making decisions about others' lives, which is a huge consideration.
Still, as I've said, with Johnson cracking (pardon my pun) down on drug use, hopefully it will be stopped, at least while they're at work.

I haven’t seen it do you have a link please?

What proof do you have that Mr.Gove was out of his head ?

lemongrove Mon 06-Dec-21 10:11:18

Good comments GG133
And as LtEve points out, a few lines of cocaine are no longer the preserve of the rich. The HOC is merely reflecting drug use as part of society. Mainly young to middle aged use (note the word mainly).
I would have thought there is little can be done if it happens in toilet areas.

kali2 that's the 2nd time you've made that statement and several of us have said that we can't recall that incident and asked you to provide details, a date or a link. Can you do that please so that we can look at it?

Agreed, alcohol and/or illegal substances should not be allowed in the workplace, wherever/whatever the workplace is or the job being done there.

lemongrove Mon 06-Dec-21 10:13:24

As far as it affects work MissA it would be far worse for a person to be drunk, or even a bit tiddly.

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 10:14:00

Regular, random drug testing for a start.
That would stop little happening in the house of commons.

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 10:15:40

I don't agree with you about it's affects, and I do not think anyone should be drinking or taking drugs during their working day.

lemongrove Mon 06-Dec-21 10:17:36

Random drug testing in any workplace would be seen as an affront, quite rightly. Why should MP’s and civil servants and other workers in the HOC buildings have to be subject to that when it doesn’t happen to others?

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 10:18:33

It does happen to others!!!!
Almost every workplace I know has drug testing.

lemongrove Mon 06-Dec-21 10:19:14

Good job you didn’t see all the lawyers in their lunch breaks in Chancery Lane pubs then!????
