who would you like to replace him - from either side?

Or is he the best of a bad bunch?

Urmstongran Sun 12-Dec-21 18:53:23

MaizieD

Forsythia

And who might they be? Yvette Cooper, Wes Streeting et Al. Crikey, we don’t want people like that in government, do we confused?

I agree with you, we certainly don’t.

Good Lord, Maybee!

Forsythia has taken you seriously...

Even I grasped Forsythia was speaking tongue in cheek. Wake up at the back MaizieD.

I imagine Gove is still coming to terms with his new lifestyle, but would be awful anyway. Liz Truss is trying to emulate Mrs Thatcher by being photographed in a tank, so Mr Hunt it is then. Mr Sunak, as I’ve said before, is far too short. Not that I’m shortist.

I wasn’t expecting the word lifestyle..grin you’ve thrown me there!

welbeck Sun 12-Dec-21 19:37:29

from the conservatives, tom tugendhat, or tobias ellwood.

welbeck Sun 12-Dec-21 19:40:26

does lifestyle here mean, expanding his horizons ...?

welbeck Sun 12-Dec-21 19:42:22

from labour, harriet harman or yvette cooper.
keir starmer is highly honourable but too considered and careful for the cut and thrust of PMQs.

Urmstongran Sun 12-Dec-21 19:47:25

Didn’t I read Harriet Harman is retiring soon?

MaizieD Sun 12-Dec-21 19:48:48

Harriet Harman will not be standing at the next General Election.

There’s an old saying “Don’t swop horses midstream” so maybe we are better off staying where we are. Boris has been on TV stressing the importance of getting booster jabs. Keir Starmer and Labour are backing him even if some of his backbenchers aren’t.We all need to pull together.

Galaxy Sun 12-Dec-21 20:41:20

No thanks I am not pulling anything with Johnson.

25Avalon Sun 12-Dec-21 20:44:43

Then risk the consequences. Keir Starmer is right.

Anniebach Sun 12-Dec-21 20:44:49

Angels Rayner would give the same general election results
as Michael Foot and Jeremy Corbyn

That's why staging posts were set up (usually with an alehouse!) where exhausted horses could be changed mid-journey.

Good message about the booster and he sounded serious.

Calistemon it refers to the American West. Crossing a deep fast flowing river was extremely dangerous and life threatening. You stuck with your horse all the way across as swooping horse was even worse. What you did when you reached the other side was an entirely different matter.

Thanks!

Yes, it feels like negotiating a fast flowing river at the moment.

Patel is preparing to throw her hat into the ring.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Dec-21 07:35:58

Quite honestly the way this country's luck is running, she is a dead cert to be the next PM

Forsythia Mon 13-Dec-21 07:38:39

I think that is highly unlikely.

This morning please spare a thought for NHS staff who - at exactly the same time you did - found out last night from
@BorisJohnson
they’d be delivering 1 million boosters a day from… today.

As I said

What a way to run a country. I bet even Javid hadn’t been consulted.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Dec-21 08:05:47

Sorry wrong thread.

Well, quite. But I remember a while ago jokingly saying that we might get a tripe whammy of Trump, Brexit and Johnson as PM. I genuinely thought that all three needed people's votes, so common sense would prevail, but look what happened.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Dec-21 09:56:32

I’m beginning to feel a sense of panic, realising that Patel could very much be on the cards.

Coastpath Mon 13-Dec-21 09:59:27

Doodledog That indeed is a 'tripe whammy'!

Perhaps things need to get Patel-grade bad before people see the problem and to quote the lady who served me in Morrisons yesterday 'start voting properly'.

Doodledog Mon 13-Dec-21 10:15:47

Doodledog That indeed is a 'tripe whammy'!

I thought I'd got away with that one ?.

I saw a meme the other day saying that autocorrect is like having a tiny elf in your phone who really wants to be helpful but is actually quite drunk. I think that could be true.

GillT57 Mon 13-Dec-21 10:45:40

Funnily enough, we were discussing this at lunch yesterday; most, if not all, thought that Johnson was untrustworthy, unreliable, a liar, etc., etc., but when it came to who, within the current Tory party we would be prepared to see take over, the general opinion was that we didn't really fancy any of the probable contenders! I think Hunt is keeping his powder dry, as is Gove, they are both keeping their distance from the current problems, Truss is a blabbering fool, Patel is a populist and Sunak is probably favourite. But, although he may be smart, presentable, can wear a suit and wouldn't make a complete arse of himself in public like Johnson does, he is a strong supporter of austerity, despite decades of examples that it doesn't work, and I suspect many people, including those receiving the State Pension would be far worse off under a Sunak administration. If I was in charge, I would appoint a National Government with people like Gordon Brown, Yvette Cooper, Dominic Grieves, Ed Davey, Caroline Lucas.
