Agree Lucca

Wow Anniebach this calls for a celebration surely ?!

Anniebach Tue 14-Dec-21 11:06:59

Blair, the only Labour leader to win three consecutive general
elections.

Who’s dyslexic?

I am, I presume you were mocking me? sad

No. I wasn’t and wouldn’t. Awful to think you would even credit me with such insensitivity and rudeness. I’m shocked to be honest. My question was genuine.

I don't think people have ever been so divided.
Mind you, we've never had a pm asking people if they've been to peppa pig world before...

Because that cartoon character is a UK success story. Merchandise providing hundreds of jobs worldwide. Peppy is very popular with the littlies in Spain I’ve noticed - little backpacks for school etc. Boris was highlighting it.

However isn’t this thread supposed to be about Keir Starmer? Ernest but boring.

So, apart from Iraq, what did Blair promise and not deliver? Did we suffer from years of austerity?

Nope. He engineered devolution. Thanks Tony. And the PPI debacle that so many of our hospital Trusts are still battling to pay off. That’s a scandal in itself. Oh and regigging the Human Rights Bill. A nightmare. Thanks probably to dear Cherie there.

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 12:05:17

Well, I've said my bit about Starmer.
I think it was very well played on his part.
I think he did exactly what the public want to see, and I think it was deliberately a very underplayed speech.

FWIW I didn't read your comment as an attack on anyone who might be dyslexic.

People do get his name wrong - I have. And I'm in favour of the man.

MayBeMaw Tue 14-Dec-21 12:06:24

It’s KEIR -like KEIR Harrie.

MayBeMaw Tue 14-Dec-21 12:08:36

Oops! Slightly supererogatory comment methinks! blush
I just have a thing about getting names right.

MayBeMaw Tue 14-Dec-21 12:09:37

He’s never called Ernest too is he?

Ernest but boring .

Agreed, 100%.

Caleo Tue 14-Dec-21 12:59:49

In our poor old country we need and desire moral leadership and Starmer has now risen above issues of party politics.

Calistemon Tue 14-Dec-21 13:03:12

Is it only me who thinks it's ironic that our posh, Tory Prime Minister and his wife are plain Mr and Mrs Johnson but the Labour Leader of the Opposition and his wife are Sir Keir and Lady Starmer?

?

Grany Tue 14-Dec-21 13:11:14

What's with the flag?

He only accepted the knighthood because it made his mum happy. And yet everyone thinks he’s posh because of it. His roots are probably more working class than most MP’s.

Keir makes a lot about his working class roots his father wears a tool maker but didn't mention his father owned the factory

His grandfather was a mechanic and Keir was the first in his family to go to university. No idea how big or small the Oxted Tool Company was but it doesn’t strike me of a huge concern. Feel free to correct me, though. And Keirs good education was achieved through brains, not money.

Calistemon Tue 14-Dec-21 13:45:50

I know all that.

It's just ironic.

Got it! I thought you meant I had posted a flag emoticon

A bit American-style, I thought.
Otherwise he spoke sense.

Josianne Tue 14-Dec-21 14:01:21

I thought the big flag was to show Labour's new focus on British values. He did stress being patriotic in our duty to get vaccinated. How that sits with different people, I'm not sure?

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 14:02:39

It was a copy of Johnson's background, I'm sure.
