Government scraping through Covid Passes etc.

It's very worrying that the government cannot rely on the support of its own MPs to get through basic public health measures to restrict the spread of Covid. I fail to understand their thinking, apart from the fact that they want the PM to take note of their dissatisfaction with him. Why would you not take notice of the advice from senior health officials who have informed government policy? Governments sometimes have to take unpopular decisions, you would think that MPs have the intelligence enough to understand that? The very time we need a stable government we find a gaping hole. I have checked and my own MP has supported the government in this instance. It must be about the first time that we have agreed on anything.

Your MP sounds very similar to my my Tory MP Santana. Our seat was formerly a safe Libdem seat, until Brexit upset the apple cart. I also don’t need to check which way he voted, he always votes with the gov, and is often on the telly now parroting the party line, I think he thinks he’s on the make, but I think he is such a fool, they sending him out as their sacrificial lamb…

The real problem is that the whole business of the restrictions has got caught up in the question of the PM's authority. Who knows how it will end.

I feel a bit Mrs Noah about the Omicron panic. The govt's primary fear seems to be that the NHS will be 'overwhelmed', showing up the appalling problems of staff shortages. And whose fault is that?

Good post, Winterwhite.

The root of this is that the PMs total inadequacy, combined with 11 years of tory 'austerity', has caught up with the country at the worst possible time.

Our local MP is the speaker of the house- and it shows -- -- does that mean he is not allowed to vote on it as he's the speaker??

Speaker doesn't vote.

From Wikipedia

The speaker does not take part in debate or vote (except to break ties; and even then, the convention is that the speaker casts the tie-breaking vote according to Speaker Denison's rule which results either in further debate or a vote for the status quo)

It seems that Murdoch has turned against Johnson.
