Although I don't approve of the whole honours thing, I am pleased to see he has been recognised.

Can't think (well, I can, but...) of anyone more deserving. Great man. Great service to our country.

Oh please not the weasely John Bercow ?
That must have been said in jest surely?
He was the most awful Speaker, not impartial at all as he obviously tried every trick in the book to thwart Brexit and was quite blatantly pro Labour.

I think Johnson was equally responsible for thwarting May’s attempt to get brexit done: he made her political life hell at the time.

Pleased to hear that Chris Whitty and Jonathan Van Tam have been honoured. They deserved it.

Well done Chris witty a humble man I think who will be embarrassed by this honour but quietly pleased by the honour.

So much more deserving than all these showbizzers.

I don’t agree. I thought he was the best Speaker for years. Everything he did to reign in a toxic Tory government was within the law. To deny him a Peerage was just pathetic. Hopefully he will be in the Lords soon.

What has John Bercow done to deserve a peerage? Genuine question.

Retired Speakers are traditionally given a Peerage. Look it up.

And If retired speakers all get one so should he .

I’m hoping that he will stand as a Labour MP at the next election.

I don’t agree with the honours system at all, but if anyone deserves it, Chris Whitty is the person.
(I hope all those who lost a son/daughter in Iraq or Afghanistan are happy about Tony Blair getting an honour!)

I agree maddy
