And all his military titles have been returned to HM The Queen.

Anniebach Thu 13-Jan-22 18:33:05

Andrew would know how to address fellow officers

Kandinsky Thu 13-Jan-22 18:35:01

I feel very sorry for the queen & his daughters.

EllanVannin Thu 13-Jan-22 18:35:19

What were all the ribbons and medals about ? My late H worked harder in the Merchant Navy and a tanker he was on was blown up. Things like this grate me I'm afraid.

Blossoming Thu 13-Jan-22 18:40:48

Wonder what Fergie's stance will be now? She's used to defending him

She’s not the only one..

HurdyGurdy Thu 13-Jan-22 18:44:14

grumppa

I know nobody who worked for him, but somebody who worked with me went on a couple of trade missions with him, and what he had to say about him bears this out.

My husband came across him several times during his time in the Royal Navy. Not a good word to say for him. Nor did any of the other ratings he worked with.

merlotgran Thu 13-Jan-22 18:49:04

Andrew was a decoy pilot during the Falklands conflict.

I wonder who came up with that idea? ?

denbylover Thu 13-Jan-22 19:02:43

Echoing Kandinsky’s comments, agree entirely. What eventuates for him time will tell, but it’s our dear Queen and his daughters who also have to suffer thru the glare of publicity.

JenniferEccles Thu 13-Jan-22 19:15:47

I have seen that quote repeated in newspapers several times over the years especially recently.
Andrew apparently introduced himself as Prince Andrew “but you can call me Andrew to which the Captain said “and you can call me sir”

Peasblossom Thu 13-Jan-22 19:19:51

No apparently it was really visgirls husband who was not the Captan but another rank. We have it from the horses mouth.

Funny how these stories get about, isn’t it? ?

BlueBelle Thu 13-Jan-22 19:27:03

He hasn’t been stripped he’s given it up apparently Not defending him he’s a txt but they did make it clear it wasn t bring stripped

Visgir1 Thu 13-Jan-22 19:29:05

He did it all the time.

Peasblossom Thu 13-Jan-22 19:32:39

You mean he went off and did again to all the Officers?

Visgir1 Thu 13-Jan-22 19:43:52

Yes.. Pompous...knowing Military humour they probably all said it, to him mine did.
By the time he left apparently he had calmed down a bit with fellow officers.

Peasblossom Thu 13-Jan-22 19:49:11

Sillier by the minute???????

Ohmother

About time! Pompous prat! I’ve never heard anyone that’s worked for him say anything flattering. Roll on the court case now.

My husband was at Sea with him.. When they first met he asked my DH what do I call you...? My DH said you call me Sir...
And yes tried to pull the Pompous card but in the RN he didn't get away with it.
What a idiot, completely F*** up.

Your husband was actually Captain of that ship, was he?

Gosh that’s made you easy to identify.

Do you think you ought to ask for your post to be taken down?

No reason to.

Andrew joined as a midshipman, then was a sub-lieutenant, lieutenant, ending as a Commander I believe.

So he would have called any senior officers Sir.

Anniebach Thu 13-Jan-22 20:08:01

And he would have known how to address them

Peasblossom Thu 13-Jan-22 20:09:42

It’s f course he would. It’s just that the Captain of the ship and the name of the ship in that story are part of the public domain.

The original story was that it was said to the Captain which made visgirl immediately identifiable.

Even now she’s told us that he went round doing the same thing to all the senior ranks, it’s still not a very wide field to of identifiable people.

Visgir1 Thu 13-Jan-22 20:21:48

I did message GM and they could not see any issue. I did not say my Husband was the Captain, just senior to Andrew, it was to highlight he was *pompous ". Nothing was identified, just a true event .

Peasblossom Thu 13-Jan-22 20:23:57

Wow, that was a quick response. It usually takes longer than minutes.

“Oh what a tangled web we weave……….”

Calistemon Thu 13-Jan-22 20:24:51

Anniebach

And he would have known how to address them

He may have done but it didn't make him any less pompous.
We know someone who served with him too.

He wasn't just at one RN establishment. He served 22 years at sea and shore bases. Even as a Vice-Admiral there would be others superior to him in rank.

Presumably he gets a pension.

Despite tales of pomposity, these were probably his best years.

Anniebach Thu 13-Jan-22 20:34:17

Like Harry, what was there to do after army, navy life, royal
duties may have been boring,

Peasblossom Thu 13-Jan-22 20:36:22

It was one particular named ship.
And one particular named captain.

I could point you to the post where the poster said they knew the Captain personally, but I think that’s not allowed.

Unless you think he went from ship to ship to ship doing the same thing?

Daisend1 Thu 13-Jan-22 20:51:51

HM, as much as it must have upset her to do this, has I am sure, the nation behind her.

GillT57 Thu 13-Jan-22 20:54:46

Urmonstongran, the reports of PA having to sell his ski chalet in Verbier are interesting as I understood that the person who naively kindly let him and his ex wife the bulk of the money to buy it was talking of court action to get the loan repaid. As this was a few years ago, perhaps he had repaid the loan? I will see what I can find out.
