Why no criticism of Carrie?

Mrs Johnson isn’t responsible for lockdown breaches. I shouldn’t have referred to her as Carrie Antoinette because that could suggest I blame her, rather than the PM for expensive refurbishments, garden parties, birthday parties and more.

She’s younger than my youngest child and married to someone in their 50s. She is his third wife and won’t be the last. Once he resigns - and he will - he may well get a peerage. Carrie will then be Lady Johnson. She has two children, a boy and a girl. Her work will be complete. I wouldn’t be surprised if BJ hasn’t got someone new lined up already. I wonder how Carrie felt knowing that wife no, 2 was having cancer treatment while they were carrying on their affair? Just a thought.

If Johnson was in a same-sex relationship I'd be thinking the same.
His partner/spouse should not have been arranging parties and he should not have gone.

And as Ladyleftfieldlover points out, any woman who takes advantage of a wifely absence due to oncology treatment, is stooping pretty low.

And yes, the horrific expense of the Number 10 flat. I doubt BJ was that interested in interior design.

Would she have looked at him twice if he weren't in the upper echelons of power? Of course not.

How does the peerage thing work? wont she only be lady johnson whilst married to him? and wont his lord title go to his eldest son on his death?

Johnson is unlikely to have been the instigator of the extravagant refurb of the flat and she must have known they wouldn't be personally paying for it.

She's not some innocent abroad, and just like her appalling husband thought the rules only applied to the little people.

There has been criticism of her. Her name has been all over the papers in relation to the decorating of No.10. She was clearly shown in photos of the drinks in the garden and and at a private members club wrapped up in a hug with a friend while we were all staying 2 metres from family and friends.
Today she was listed as being at the birthday party and we were told she brought the birthday cake.

More importantly what's going to happen to the furnishings when they leave. Will they take them with them? I can't imagine the next incumbent wanting to live with them.

I agree, but when Gladstone moved into number 10 in 1880, he insisted on redecorating, spending £1,555.5s.0d – an enormous sum for the time, now £170,000. At least he got to come back twice more!

I think that any peerage a retiring PM might get (though I don't know about one that's had to be dragged out of NO.10 kicking and screaming) would be a life peerage, not a hereditary one.

But there's no automatic right to any sort of honour for a former PM. not even a knighthood.

The words 'honour' and 'Johnson' don't really sit well together, do they?
