As if there isn't enough evidence that Johnson is unfit for office

Now we read reports that senior civil servants and ministers were having to insist that Johnson works from the office and not from home due to red boxes, many of them full of highly sensitive information, laying about in the Downing Street flat, open for all to see including Carrie's pals and friends who were frequent visitors. It has been described as a 'Frat house atmosphere', with people in and out.

It’s not a good look but we don’t yet know who’s going because they can’t bear to work with him any longer and who’s going because they know they’re not going to come out of the Met investigation well and would probably have been sacked. Time will tell.

According to one of Boris's 'loyal' ministers on Today this morning, the resignations are a sign that the PM is "taking charge".

Johnson? Taking charge?? Heaven help us!

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 04-Feb-22 10:02:36

Taking back control perhaps??

Coastpath Fri 04-Feb-22 10:09:08

I just read a good point. Allegra Stratton resigned for laughing about covering up for parties that Johnson attended. hmm

I heard that on the radio while eating my breakfast. Talk about spin! I nearly choked on my toast.

I do not understand the nodding dog's thinking. If someone resigns it is obvious to most people that that person is not happy with the situation . It is completely different from someone being sacked . How on earth does this equate with Johnson being in control.
Do these spokesmen not realise what fools they look.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 04-Feb-22 10:36:37

Some may be resigning because they know they will be sacked when the Met's investigation shows them to be amongst the partygoers. Jump before you're pushed.

The whips have been told to spin it as the big clear out by Johnson.

Oh well.

Anne Widdecombe on J Vine - he's doing what he said he would - sorting out his house. Faceless junior ministers appearing on the news saying the same.

They are all on message then.

It would be more believable if he had sacked them and Mirza’s letter did not support a clear out!

Who on earth will be prepared to work for Johnson now?

Let’s all wake up

This isn’t about Munira Mirza doing the right thing

This is about paving a way for Sunak to become PM

Mirza’s husband is Dougie Smith - a good pal of Sunak

And who broke the story?

James Forsyth - who Sunak was best man to

When he married Allegra Stratton

Sunak has been on a charm offensive for quite a while but underneath it all he's a sharp operator.

He's the one that introduced "Eat Out to Help Out", which I read had contributed to a rise in coronavirus cases.

He walked out of an interview abruptly the other day because he didn't want to answer a question.

He's got a lot of personal charm but underneath he's a cool, calculating and very right wing hawk.

On the upside, I believe him when he said he wouldn't have aimed that baseless accusation at Keir Starmer and he is more intelligent than Liz Truss whom I find hard to take seriously.

I have heard that many Tory MPs are sticking with the status quo simply because they don't like any of the possible replacements for Bojo the Clown. What a sad day for the Tories and for us all.

Coastpath Fri 04-Feb-22 17:08:12

Rishi Sunak's voting record

Mostly voted against:-
Laws to promote equality and human rights
Laws to prevent climate change
Higher benefits for those unable to work through illness or disability

Mostly voted for:-
Reducing spending on welfare benefits
Reduced central government funding for local government
Reducing corporation tax

I feel sure Rishi Sunak as PM or Chancellor equals austerity for us, writing off of losses on schemes devised by him and a whole lot of looking after the richest people in the country e.g. his wife.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 04-Feb-22 18:16:59

I guess that's what you'd expect given his position.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 04-Feb-22 18:23:42

If Sunak becomes leader it is a return to austerity

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 04-Feb-22 18:24:39

I think that's necessary unless we keep printing money.

varian Fri 04-Feb-22 18:26:04

For goodness sake, do we have to have Tory government?

Let's have constitutional reform.

Throw everything up in the air and start again.

I suppose you are right Germanshepherdsmum but it would just be good for the this country if we could have a Chancellor (and/or PM - whatever he ends up being) who thinks human rights, equality and the environment are priorities.

My mum used to have a saying 'He knows the price of everything and the value of nothing'.

Austerity didn't work last time around, even its architects admit that.

MaizieD Fri 04-Feb-22 21:44:37

Two more acknowledged letters in to the 1922 committee today.

Aaron Bell, one of the 2019 intake, MP for Newcastle under Lyme, and Nick Gibb, former Schools Minister who lost his long time post (since 2010 IIRC) in Johnson's last reshuffle.

Fishy Rishi might know a lot about money, but he is economically illiterate. Which is a very sad state of affairs for a Chancellor of the Exchequer. (Mind you, Rachel Reeves isn't much better...)

Don't normally share is stuff as the swearing could be very upsetting for some. This one is relatively mild in swearing, so here goes

You beat me to it! I was just going to ask if anyone had seen the video.

Jonathan Pie is brilliant.

Dinahmo Sat 05-Feb-22 17:59:19

Thanks for that Kali I hadn't heard of Jonathan Pie before. Excellent.

Kali2 Sat 05-Feb-22 18:14:37

'his' stuff.

Yes he is brilliant and spot on, but the swearing goes off the scale usually, so I don't like sharing.

varian Sat 05-Feb-22 18:50:32

You might object to a bit of swearing but you could not possibly argue with anything he says. He tells it like it is.
