The SNP to cut off the bottom half of classroom doors!

Here we are 2 years into the pandemic SNP ministers are to spend £300,000 chopping the bottoms off hundreds of classroom doors in an attempt to stop the spread of Covid, under a “crackpot” plan unveiled yesterday.

Nicola Sturgeon defended the spending but Holyrood’s opposition parties lambasted the “DIY ventilation” plan as a “lazy solution”.

You can make daft jokes about the SNP all you like.

Earlier this week I raised that real worrying thing proposed by the Scottish Government earlier this week about extending pandemic powers to impose lockdowns and close schools and businesses, but the slightly less politically-aware among us would rather make jokes and poke fun about non-existent joinery edicts.

If I had another word I'd use it, but I'll just stick with pathetic.

Callistemon21 Thu 03-Feb-22 14:04:29

non-existent joinery edicts.

So, can I stop knitting socks now?

Where on earth are her advisors? Like telling her to keep her mouth well and truly closed!

Oh wouldn’t that be wonderful? ?

I'm on a mission to Keep Scottish Pupils From Getting Chilblains.

You’re a fine woman Calli! ?

My English grandson spends all day in a classroom with the exterior door open. Crackpot? I like to the think that the HT is doing what he can as the government isn't prepared to be serious about mitigating the risk to children.

Though Nicola might be better spending the money on air filters for classrooms...

Or just opening windows.

There was a gap under our front door which made it very draughty and my feet were iced cold. Luckily Lidl had draught excluders for £4.99 in the shape of sausage dogs and other stuffed animals.

The only downside was our toddler grandson carting it around over the weekend but it’s back where it belongs now,

Callistemon21 Thu 03-Feb-22 14:18:54

In 2021 there were estimated to have been over 796.3 thousand pupils attending schools in Scotland

The pandemic will be over and new doors put on before I get halfway through!

Right, wasting time on here won't get the children new socks, will it. Clickety click ???

JenniferEccles Thu 03-Feb-22 14:19:51

You have got to hand it to Wee Burney haven’t you? ?
Hilarious!
I bet Littlejohn will pick up on this corker of a story!

Alegrias1 Thu 03-Feb-22 14:23:23

That's quite shocking JE.

Suddenly, pathetic doesn't seem to go far enough.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 03-Feb-22 14:25:11

At least this thread is a change from the usual N & P ones.

No Brexit or Boris bashing for a change ????

JenniferEccles Thu 03-Feb-22 16:20:38

Come on Alegrias1 surely you must agree that it’s a crackpot idea?

It’s given us all a chuckle though hasn’t it?!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 03-Feb-22 16:25:39

It’s on the BBC website so it must be true ?

Some years ago I got chilblains (v sore) only I didn't know what they were and, more to the point, neither did my GP! I suspect he'd never seen any before. He thought it was an infection and prescribed an anti-biotic which did bugger all of course.

Yes, I did tell him of my eventual conclusion. The problem resolved itself when I got an electric under-blanket for my bed.

I was a bit put out by the anti-B as I think I'd only had any once before in my life, for an ear infection. I'm currently on my third, prescribed by an optician, for an infected hole in my cornea. Not a big deal. I didn't know anything was wrong but so grateful for free annual eye checks (cos my mum had glaucoma).

PS Go, Calli! Socktastic!

Alegrias1 Thu 03-Feb-22 16:29:22

It would be a crackpot idea if it was actually what was being proposed.

But it's not, as anybody would understand if they had actually listened to the excerpt from FMQs this afternoon or read the actual report, instead of relying on the incorrect information printed by the newspapers or the infantile smirking questioning by Ross. Or even Willie "photo opportunity" Rennie, my local MSP who is likely to be getting an email from me.

But I'm amazed to see how many people here on GN are experts in fluid dynamics and are recommending opening windows, propping open the doors etc. My favourite is the "hot air rises and takes the germs with it" hypothesis.

But hey, why pay attention to facts when we can have a go at Scotland and the FM? By the way, do you know who Wee Burney was?

Are you accusing the BBC of publishing fake news on its website?

Alegrias1 Thu 03-Feb-22 16:33:57

Am I the only one who sees the difference between:

Money's on offer to improve airflow in classrooms, including by planing the bottom off doors if that's useful.

and

SNP crackpots want to saw our children's doors in half! and all the opposition MSPs think they've really clever for having a go!! Will nobody think of the fire risk!!

Maybe I am.

Josieann Thu 03-Feb-22 16:35:19

So, has the person who dreamt up this barmy idea actually been round schools and spoken with the teachers?
From my experience most teachers like their classroom doors wide open, mainly from a safe guarding point of view. There are inexpensive closures which can be easily fitted and these are activated by the fire alarm going off. It is a proven safe system with no need for any carpentry. Simples.

Baggs Thu 03-Feb-22 16:35:23

You might be the only one who doesn't see the funny side of the story being misrepresented, al. ?

Alegrias1 Thu 03-Feb-22 16:36:03

Are you accusing the BBC of publishing fake news on its website?

Have you actually read it?

Is this what we've come to in this country?

No wonder Johnson can get away with suggesting things that aren't really true, if people can't actually read news reports but only see what they want to see.

PS Go, Calli! Socktastic!

Only another 794,300 pairs to go.

I got chilblains when I was a child, my Mum thought it was because I used to sit on the hearth as I was always nesh.

I hope your eye improves with the antibiotics, it sounds painful but can't have been if you didnt realise.

I'm away to watch Antiques Road Trip.

Have fun.

I think you are a tad over sensitive on any comments regarding the FM by anyone south of the border.

Do you? Ach well, I'll live with it.

I do get a bit sensitive about anyone, English, Scots or even Mongolian, who thinks its funny to make up stories about any other country's FM and government and make out they're idiots.

Still waiting to find out if JE knows who Wee Burney is.

I think someone’s royally pissed off. ?
