The SNP to cut off the bottom half of classroom doors!

Here we are 2 years into the pandemic SNP ministers are to spend £300,000 chopping the bottoms off hundreds of classroom doors in an attempt to stop the spread of Covid, under a “crackpot” plan unveiled yesterday.

Nicola Sturgeon defended the spending but Holyrood’s opposition parties lambasted the “DIY ventilation” plan as a “lazy solution”.

Well, perhaps the fun was spoilt by these two remarks:
Get a life, honestly.
Honestly, you're pathetic.
Directed at everyone in the thread

Culminating in:
If this is a joy and how GN used to be, then I'm off.
See ya.

I never took Alegrias for such a sensitive flower.
Really, I'm surprised.

I was not referring to you Callistemon. And I would not and did not report anyway.
There were however personal comments about being thrilled that the poster in question was getting riled.

I am glad I was not alone.

Just to add fuel to the fire (excuse my pun)

Josieann Sun 06-Feb-22 07:51:33

What I don't understand is why just because a poster is a fountain of knowledge in certain areas we can't be allowed to have a little laugh and NS dig about an idea that was clearly bonkers, barmy, crackpot, impractical and never going to happen. Other posters, myself included, take belittling on other threads, but still continue with a smile and humility.

Chewbacca Sun 06-Feb-22 07:57:27

It's a pity that you took my post @ 11.09 on the 04.02.2022 so personally Maybee70 it didn't mention you, or anyone else, personally and so I'm quite surprised that it struck home with you as directly as it did. If you'd managed to read it properly, before requesting for it to be zapped, you'd have seen that it simply said: the majority of posters are perfectly capable of being appalled by major political news events, whilst still being able to enjoy the humour of nonsense such as this topic. But, if it was the closing sentence of that post that upset you, please know that it wasn't originally aimed at you personally; it was meant to be a general observation. smile

Oh, and there was silly me thinking you were referring to a carpenter's stick.

Gwyneth Sun 06-Feb-22 08:29:29

Have just been reading all the posts on here while eating my porridge. Great to read something light-hearted for a change. So bored with the Boris threads. Nicola and her support of door chopping is a breath of fresh air! Shame some posters lack a sense of humour they must lead very dull lives.

Lucca Sun 06-Feb-22 08:55:01

Hey I’ll,take plenty of criticism but not a lack of sense of humour sorry !

I wasn’t objecting to the wholesale NS or SNP mocking, just what I perceived as unkindness to Alegrias.

Oh, this caught my eye, because my father had one, many moons ago.
It has been an amusing thread and I have enjoyed it.

However, I do feel for the poster, who flounced off.
Rarely in agreement with her and we have often crossed swords, normally a prolific poster, she seems to have disappeared off the scene.
I do hope she feels she can come back and post in her inimitable way.

Exactly, Lucca. That is what is bothering me.

Lucca Sun 06-Feb-22 09:06:52

Thank you Marydoll.

Casdon Sun 06-Feb-22 09:08:04

Me too Lucca, it’s not funny in any way when one poster is targeted like that.

If I had seen any poster being thrilled that another was getting riled I would certainly have reported it. Winding someone up and causing them to"lose the heid" is the intention of trolls. If it was said as a provocative deliberately personal dig, then it definitely deserved reporting.

Josieann Sun 06-Feb-22 09:33:52

It's not particularly funny when that one poster constantly and deliberately targets a couple of others either. No one surely wants to perpetuate this atmosphere where sides are taken in a personal manner.
I believe she will return because there was a similar issue before.

Josieann Sun 06-Feb-22 09:34:50

Crossed post Elegran. The stick comment was general.

No, you are not alone Lucca

In the school I worked in before retirement the classroom doors were fire doors. I remember it cost a fortune to have them fitted following a H&S inspection by the local authority. Opening the windows should ventilate the room. If this story is true it’s totally crazy!!

But Aleg said she was leaving after my post about it being a fun thread, which I thought was an innocuous post.
There is nothing offensive in it whatsoever.

It's a pity we can't have a daft thread or two in these miserable times. It makes a change from all the angst and did remind me of the fun that used to be had on GN in the dim and distant past before it became so spiky.

Gwyneth Sun 06-Feb-22 09:59:58

Can I make it clear that I was referring to the OP Lucca re the chopping off of doors and nothing else so please don’t make make assumptions about me that are completely untrue.

But Marydoll, there was none before Alegrias said she was going (I thought she meant the thread)

Ah well, we must remember not to criticise the SNP and Nicola Sturgeon no matter which other politicians get it up them as Corporal Jones would say.

That, for those unaware, is from Dad's Army.

Storm in a teacup.

Josieann Sun 06-Feb-22 10:04:37

I'm not sure it was you who banged in the final nail (carpentry again!!) * Callistemon*. The poster said, "Throw in a bit of name calling and we're all done.
Yes, I am annoyed" a page or so before your innocuous post. Who riled her and why at that point I have no idea.

Pretty nigh Impossible to open some of the windows where I taught.

This one was pretty nasty….

It's just gobbledegook, sorry.

Once again it’s not the SNP criticism! It’s the delight in winding up Alegrias..

Lucca Sun 06-Feb-22 10:08:22

And yes Alegrias is a very assertive poster. However she mostly gets cross about posts which are inaccurate!
