The SNP to cut off the bottom half of classroom doors!

Here we are 2 years into the pandemic SNP ministers are to spend £300,000 chopping the bottoms off hundreds of classroom doors in an attempt to stop the spread of Covid, under a “crackpot” plan unveiled yesterday.

Nicola Sturgeon defended the spending but Holyrood’s opposition parties lambasted the “DIY ventilation” plan as a “lazy solution”.

The front door of my flat has a tiny gap under it and a force 10 gale blows under it so it certainly would air the flat if I didn't put a dog in front of it.
The dog is a cloth one btw!

We used to have one of those - a long dachshund which my SisIL made for us.

They make Scottish terrier ones too which might be useful!

Which tartan is he? I like him, every home should have one!

However, I don't think our grand-dog would like it!

(He's Welsh, btw)

I was rather thinking every school with chopped doors should have one.

?

The pupils could make them in Craft, Art and Design (or whatever they call it these days)

They could take turns in looking after the dog in the holidays.
I like the tartan dog. Mine is a bit of a tatty dog now.

When I saw this news earlier my immediate thoughts were..'That's it..I really do live in a mad mad world. '
Really can't see the problem with classroom windows being open and doors propped open. If it is cold then just do on a regular basis just as we are encouraged to do at home. I'm not saying children should be freezing but layer up.
Its not even a cheap option to cut a door down. Labour cost of removing, cutting and rehanging will not be as cheap as a door stop. If a fire were to break out a shut door would at least buy some time if bottom or indeed the top of it is missing it would offer far less protection.. Good ventilation is and as far as I am aware always has been important but cutting a door down just seems blooming ridiculous to me.

I remember looking after the school rabbit one weekend, it was real (and white, not tartan).
But that's a whole other story - Catch Me if You Can ?

We used to farm out the school pets to various children (parents) during the school holidays and the children had to keep a diary about the animals in their charge. A couple of rabbits met their demise while staying away and the children were devastated.
During other school holidays we left the pets at school and I drove (20 minutes) over to school every day to feed them. One animal loving parent reported it to the RSPCA that the furry herbivores weren't getting enough human company!

??? poor little things.
They were probably quite relieved not to be picked up and cuddled.

cuddled? manhandled!

?
I don't like furry creatures with long tails.

Years ago at junior school I remember the teacher jumping on to her desk and screaming - there was a mouse running round the classroom.
I don't know whether it came out of a mousehole or under a gap at the bottom of the door...........

Josieann Fri 04-Feb-22 17:58:47

The gerbil ran up one child's shirt sleeve and got his tail caught and twisted in the button hole. You've guessed it, I had to extract the gerbil minus its tail!

10/10 to you for sticking to the subject!

Oh yuck!
Did it become a hamster?
I like hamsters but they are good escape artists.

Yes, we mustn't let the thread meander too much.

They are indeed. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-60261400

Honestly, if this suggestion is what passes for common sense, there’s no hope for us!

A shame. Hope it is not permanent. A pity to lose a well read and knowledgeable poster even with very strongly held views which don’t suit the majority.
There is teasing and then there is downright nastiness.

Hopikins Sat 05-Feb-22 21:55:04

I hope they are not "FIRE DOORS". it would be illegal and very dangerous.

I don't know about flouncing but there was no personal nastiness, as far as I saw, on this thread, directed at any posters.

The hilarity was directed at the daftness of this proposition and those who decided it was a good idea.

It really was a prime target for all the jokes, as are other threads about other politicians and, may I say, some posters who are the butt of many unkind and personal remarks on other threads.

Are the SNP and its leader supposed to be exempt? If so, could someone please explain why?
Or are double standards acceptable on GN?

Lucca I've seen some downright nastiness directed at a posters on political threads - really vile - and it's not this thread.

If you are accusing anyone of causing a poster to flounce then one poster left (I assumed left the thread) after I said:
Sometimes Gransnet is informative, supportive, sometimes irritable, sometimes angry, sometimes, dare I say it, boring.
But this thread is a joy, as Gransnet used to be!
Thanks Urmstongran ?

I stand by that and if you want to report me, Lucca, Casdon or Maybee, then carry on.
Let GN be the judge of whether or not that was nasty.
