Phew! That's sorted then. Putin will withdraw.

Read the room merlotgran. It's not a f***ing joke.

All good wishes to you volver, but maybe extend the kindness and good manners to the actual people who are reading your thoughts and words

volver Fri 25-Feb-22 19:25:10

No, don't think so. I'm not into appeasement. Not right now.

You are a very nice person Fanny and I hope I don't offend you, but anyone who is trying to make light of this is going to hear what I think of them.

FannyCornforth Fri 25-Feb-22 19:28:21

Okey dokey volver , that’s very kind of you
I’m actually going to sleep now (I know!) so I’ll leave you all to it smile

If you hadn't read their site - you wouldn't have known about the comment. They didnt use a tannoy system, the Daily Mail did that for them

Exactly as they intended.
Or there would be no point writing something on a web site that people do not read, would there?

If Harry announced that he was going back to the army to fight the Russians some of you would say he was doing it to show off and show William up.

You're a sad bunch, really you are.

Get me deleted if you're offended.

I dont speak for some of us.

I am sad sometimes, but for other reasons than this thread or what is said on it.

I dont see the need to complain or report you.

My perspective is mine and you are welcome to your own.

I have a house full of 15 yo boys and they are not going home until at least tomorrow confused

I think we all cope with stress differently. I have to make light of things to be able to cope with it. We are all different. It doesn't mean I cannot acknowledge the severity of the situation in the Ukraine but maybe I don't want to discuss it online either. Maybe I am more at risk if I put my point of view across. Who knows

JaneJudge Fri 25-Feb-22 19:36:24

My friend said to me yesterday, who knew the pandemic was the least of our worries

Pammie1 Fri 25-Feb-22 19:38:18

Just how influential do these two think they are ?

volver Fri 25-Feb-22 19:42:43

One of the key weapons we have against Russia at the moment is sanctions. Sanctions of all kinds, including being allowed to partake in the cultural life of the world.

So taking part in silly music contests, and playing football, and racing F1 cars, and allowing them to sponsor sports teams in Germany. So we take it all away. Nothing is laughable.

volver Fri 25-Feb-22 19:47:17

None of us are influential individually. Not even Johnson, or Biden or anyone else. But together, everyone is influential. Will any Russian ever read the Archewell website? Probably not. But does it make a difference if everybody communicates the same message, so the Russia knows that everyone is speaking with the same voice? Notice I say Russia, not Putin. Does it matter when people hop onto the Archewell site and see something that makes them think, whereas perhaps they wouldn't have before? You bet it does.

Volver. You don’t know my real name but if you did you would recognise it as Ukrainian. I’m very upset and worried about what is going on and frankly a little levity is welcome right now. Nobody has mocked Ukraine and it’s people in this thread.

Now I will follow FannyCornforth’s lead and try to sleep.

JaneJudge Fri 25-Feb-22 20:03:25

Yes, we had a discussion earlier regarding how will Russian people feel - especially regarding communism

Maybe read the room yourself a bit - the situation is so scary, possibly the only way some can cope is to lighten the mood.

Fair comment. I wouldn't dream of saying anything against that. I'm sorry if what I wrote has affected you.

Perhaps.

Is slagging off minor royals for trying to contribute another way that people cope? Could be, I suppose.

Blossoming Fri 25-Feb-22 20:16:30

No, you haven’t offended me. FannyCornforth does know my name and I know she wouldn’t seek to make light of this war.

H&M have made a statement on their website - along with many other high-profile people on Twitter, or on their blogs, etc - which is a brief message of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

But the DM chose to make a mocking article about it with the headline "Putin is shaking in his boots!': Twitter users remark on Harry and Meghan's defiant statement that they 'stand with the people of Ukraine'

... the DM is simply stirring the pot.

Blossoming I woke in the night and couldn't get back to sleep from worrying.
I have a friendly acquaintance who is Ukrainian, she has been here since she was young but she has family there too.
I'm not religious but I did ?

Having tried to calm a worried little girl today I need some levity.

Callistemon21 Fri 25-Feb-22 20:36:05

Oh give it a rest, really.

No. I shan't.
I have as much right to post as you do.

I hope I never make personal attacks either (except criticising politicians and public figures).

Where M&H lead, others follow.

Russia has been kicked out of The Eurovision Song Contest!

How will Putin bear the shame?

I did hope that might be the last straw!

But we will all remember those Russian Grannies, I hope!
Just wonderful.

Well it won't make much difference if Nikita Mazepin is banned from the formula 1 season. He always comes last anyway.

You’ve reminded me, Cali ?

Most Eurovision acts are forgettable.

The correct statement-

‘They stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of
international and humanitarian law and encourage the global
community and it’s leaders to do the same ‘

And what is so bad about that ? Apart from the apostrophe…

It really is extremely patronising.

Rosie51 Sat 26-Feb-22 00:59:32

I have to agree that it does come across as patronising that anybody let alone leaders would need H&M's encouragement to ' "stand with Ukraine". Millions, no billions, of us understand the situation without needing M&H to spell it out. Maybe it's just unfortunate grammar but they do need to think things through before end
orsing publication to their site.
