With respect, any topic under "News & Politics" is going to involve a certain amount of verbal 'fighting' by the very nature of the fact that it's... well, news and politics.

And the threads 'die' a natural death when a new topic comes along.

I'm puzzled about what you mean... "turning it into something it wasn't". Looking at the the original post, "Phew! That's sorted then. Putin will withdraw." and reading the various comments - in what way has it turned into something it wasn't? Again with respect, don't you think the topic has taken the form it was intended to take - with most posters scorning H&M for their indiscreet message of solidarity, and fewer defending them?

Those who don't want to be part of the 'fight' will withdraw anyway, and ultimately this thread will, like all the previous threads, drop off the radar.

So, if they are no longer important as royals, do they now want to be important as celebrities? What I mean is, do they now wish to align themselves with the likes of Myli Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande etc? Fine! I actually think that might sit better with most people.
But H & M can't have their feet in both camps, as was pointed out to them.

I do think that these tedious H &M threads provide a compelling rationale for abolishing the monarchy. No monarchy = no H&M, no need to post incessantly and obsessively about them on N &P.

You’ll have to ask the universe Annie. The only thing I as a mere mortal can come up with is that Americans love our RF so to be a royal princess was her dream. Albeit she had to get married to achieve it which perhaps wasn’t a sign of great independence.

I suppose all those condemning H&M for their statement about Ukraine will now be criticising W&K for doing the same? You do wonder if they just couldn't bear to think they were being outflanked.

I’ve had very small standing orders for decades to Oxfam and Save the Children, mainly because they were the charities that my mom favoured.
I’ve been thinking if I should change to the Red Cross or Medicen sans Frontiers (ignore my Franglais!)
How do you find out which charities are ‘the best’, I wonder?
