Yep. Winnie must be a bit of a republican, I think, and can't believe it . I'm not sure its inspiring anyone. It's peak Royal Family. There's something that people love - let's associate ourselves with it!!!

p.s. it was only announced 4 days ago. Really hasn't inspired anything.

Well, we could always turn the book into another Horrible Histories work.... lots of guts and gore, and multiple beheadings. The kids like that sort of stuff!
At school here they're practising Maypole dancing for the celebrations, though it's more a case of everyone tying each other in knots at the moment! There's going to be quizzes, dog show, afternoon tea, scones with cream first then jam ?, bouncy castles, something about lighting a beacon etc. Most of this takes place at the end of half term, but all the teachers who are in the country seem happy to come along to lend a hand.

OK, back to my ? agility trainng. Can't possibly let the side down in front of the kids.

I remember lighting a beacon (well, not personally but we wuz there) on a Tor at the time of the Silver Jubilee then negotiating our way back down in the dark.

It’s a shame the royal family couldn’t say don’t spend all that money for this anniversary, give it instead to buy medical supplies for the Ukraine.

While I completely agree, as an adult, with the unnecessary expenditure and adoration aspects, there is part of me that makes myself stop and have a really hard look at how children will view this moment of a major historic event in their lifetime. Yes, I know many of us don't see it that way but we don't look through the eyes of a child. I would prefer a mug to a book. I still have my Coronation one. My sister has hers too, and her letter from the King (mass produced) to every child in the UK to thank them for their sacrifice during the war. She brought it down to show the children in her street when there was a 'war' celebration on. They were fascinated and all wanted to hold it.
What I am trying to say here is don't pour water on a child's delight at getting something they didn't expect. Many of them will cherish it and, for some, it will literally be the only gift they every get in childhood. I taught a boy, secondary school age Year 7, who was given a Gideon Bible at a school assembly. I don't think they do that anymore. He came to me and told me it was the only thing he had ever been given in his life and he would cherish it forever. I sometimes wonder if he did. He was Muslim and I suspected he would face difficulties with it in his community. So, let the children enjoy the moment. I think, with the passing of Elizabeth II a lot of these traditions will fade out as the 'old school' they are.

The International Anti-Monarchy Conference coincides with the Queen's jubilee weekend here in the UK. Republicans from around the world will be highlighting the common issues we face and the reasons why we should all hope for an end to monarchy.

We are still confirming the line-up, but we have speakers from the UK, Commonwealth, Europe and Asia who will be talking about monarchies, movements and a democratic future.

Who funds this conference? Could it be better spent ?

Why is it odd, if folks speculate about, RF & cost. . .?
It would be good to know how much money is generated, how many staff are employed etc..

Its Zoom. Probably costs about tuppence ha'penny. Costs a fiver each to attend.

There are plenty of facts to read , research etc, but one has to make an effort if one wants to find out.

Some -whether adult or child will get pleasure from the celebrations. Some will get their pleasure from criticising the RF and those who do enjoy the celebration.
Each to their own.
