Are the Royal Family losing their touch?

A couple of weeks ago we had the disastrous PR associated with the Caribbean tour, and now the judgement of the Queen is being questioned, for giving Prince Andrew such a prominent role in the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service.

The position of the Royal Family depends very strongly on their acceptance by, and the support of, the public both here and overseas; are they losing that?

Let’s have sympathy for the press. It has been announced that
Harry,Megan and Andrew will not be ‘on the balcony’, only
working royals will be there. Awww no front pages with Megan
allegedly glaring at Kate or Kate ignoring Megan , Harry
and William didn’t speak to each other

Bridgeit Fri 06-May-22 18:07:29

Ohh Annie, you are awful but I like you??

Calendargirl Fri 06-May-22 18:13:12

The balcony will be quite full though, with the Queen (hopefully), Charles, Camilla, The Cambridges plus children, Anne and Tim, the Wessexes plus children, the Gloucesters, and the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra.

Jostling for space.

It takes more that 17 people to nearly fill that balcony

I will miss the cheeky antics of Savannah Phillips.

But the children aren't working members of the Royal Family.

The days of sending them out to work at 7 are over.

If there are only working Royals there will be no one on balcony

God Save The queen by Sex Pistols re released for platinum

The royal family is not above politics did you know?
A reminder that the Queen and Charles can vet laws that affect them personally both lobby ministers for their own interests.

Prince Andrew, Harry and Meghan will not be making an appearance on the balcony for the jubilee celebrations as they are not working Royals.

A sensible resolution to a potentially awkward situation.

Good

wicklowwinnie Sat 07-May-22 15:53:20

Only Andrew should be barred from the balcony appearance. Harry and Meghan should be on the balcony. I don't think it's anything to do with "working royals". It's a move to show Andrew isn't isolated because of his behaviour.
It's all very devious. I can't be the only person that can see through this ploy!

It seems a brilliant solution. At least it keeps the media focused on the Queen and saves us all from some
Headlines

Joseanne Sat 07-May-22 16:07:50

Eminently sensible. The last thing anyone wants to risk is boos from the crowd, (not directed at HM).
Damage limitation no doubt.

volver Sat 07-May-22 16:11:19

Oh I'm hoping there will be chants from the crowd...

"We want Harry, we want Harry."

That kind of thing...

Be careful what you wish for.

It might turn into “Go home Meghan!”

shock

Oh that would be fine too. Anything to distract from the blind adoration and flag waving.

I find it interesting that the news that H&M are actually coming and bringing the children after all has been tagged quietly onto this thread. If the breaking news had announced they would not be attending, the Queen will never meet her latest great granddaughter etc I suspect that would have prompted a new thread that would be running at 20 odd pages by now.

I am more concerned that some don’t acknowledge that the RF generate jobs & incomes etc.

I will acknowledge that the RF generate jobs and incomes. Lots of servants needed below stairs to do the chores, run the household and dress the Royal person ( just back from watching the Downton Abbey film) I do hope that they are paid a living wage.

It is a stroke of genius to limit the balcony spectacular to working Royals. I hope that this slimmed down version sets a precedent for Charles to follow.

Bridgeit Sat 07-May-22 18:16:51

So little knowledge …… across our country 1000s of folks are employed on estates that are run to produce a diversity of produce, small business are supported , young people gain skills etc. …… etc etc

Maybe Charles is actually the instigator Parsley3. I'm guessing he might have decided about the balcony quite some time ago.

I agree. It also allows the pro-M&H , anti-M&H, the pro-RF and the anti-RF and those who don’t think it’s any of their business who HRH has on the balcony, to have their say. Congratulations your Majesty.

The Sex Pistols God Save the Queen is being re released for platinum. When first released it was thought by some to be disrespectful to our Head of State. I wonder do you?

God save the queen
The fascist regime
They made you a moron
A potential H bomb

God save the queen
She's not a human being
and There's no future
And England's dreaming

Don't be told what you want
Don't be told what you need
There's no future
No future
No future for you

John Lydon said I do not dislike the queen, monarchy just the institution.
