Why did she bother.? Must have cost squillions.

crazyH Fri 29-Jul-22 18:37:45

P.S. And I’m glad, she won !!

The Rooney family live within a mile of me and Colleen, in particular, is very well thought of locally. She's a hard working young woman who, apart from her family and running her own business, does a lot of work supporting local charities, none of which is publicised. She's known as being very private, but friendly and pleasant enough in local shops; I'd imagine that the last thing she wanted was a public circus court hearing.

Smileless2012 Fri 29-Jul-22 18:43:27

Apparently it aint over yet and Vardy's considering an appeal!!!!!

Chewbacca Fri 29-Jul-22 18:45:21

When in a hole; stop digging.....

Ilovecheese Fri 29-Jul-22 19:04:18

They haven't done anyone any harm have they.
Nouveau riche is rather snobbish.

ShazzaKanazza Fri 29-Jul-22 19:13:16

Amazing to see these two were headline news tonight over the murder of that nine year old girl. ?Still it’s thrust them right into the spotlight again. Celebrity masterchef probably beckons!

Grannyben Fri 29-Jul-22 19:25:29

I think if I was that PA/Agent, employed and thrown under the bus by Rebecca Vardy, I would now look at taking action against her myself. The way Mrs Hardy made her the scapegoat is absolutely terrible.

Katie59 Fri 29-Jul-22 19:28:57

Apparently it will cost Vardy around £3m including around 70% of Rooneys cost, the Judge was not at all impressed with Rebekah.
When you have 2 women spending husbands money its only the lawyers that are going to win

Iam64 Fri 29-Jul-22 19:35:45

Colleen Rooney is no air head. She’s married to a wealthy man but has made her own money because she’s hard working, reliable and honest. She’s making her marriage work for those good old fashioned reasons, she loves him, she’s a solid working class girl who will make her marriage work to provide stability for their children.
Rebecca Vardy has never been popular in the way Colleen Rooney has. She sold stories in Rooney for cash. She denied it, refused Rooney’s 3 offers to settle out of court. How she ciudad stand in court and clearly lie is a conundrum. Phone fell in the sea? If your 13 - 15 year old daughter same home with a Big Fib lied that would you laugh and/or sanction her. Yes, yiu would

Pammie1 Fri 29-Jul-22 19:46:02

I find it disgusting that people with more money than they know what to do with are allowed to tie up the courts with this shite, while people who have real issues are denied their day in court because they can’t afford it and legal aid isn’t available. It seems in the uk if you want your day in court you have to have the means to pay for it and hurt feelings take priority. It’s nonsense.

Chewbacca Fri 29-Jul-22 19:53:26

Colleen Rooney, as the defendant, had no choice as to whether to appear in court or not; she was summoned to appear. If she'd failed to attend, she could have been subpoenaed and that would have stood against her during the court hearing.

Jane43 Fri 29-Jul-22 19:56:04

Colleen offered to settle out of court several times but Rebekah refused, a decision she probably regrets now, her husband probably even more so.

tickingbird Fri 29-Jul-22 20:07:43

Blue Belle. “Good taste”?. You’re the arbiter of good taste are you? No, sounds like good, old fashioned snobbery to me. These working class women with all this money should know their place. How dare they get above themselves? shock

lemsip Fri 29-Jul-22 20:12:49

trouble is they've got squillions!

Nanna58 Fri 29-Jul-22 20:12:53

I read that when , after the infamous ‘ the phone fell in the North Sea moment ‘ a lawyer referred to it as being in Davy Jones Locker, Ms Vardy denied ever having met him!!?

rafichagran Fri 29-Jul-22 20:15:10

Colleen Rooney did not want this to go to court, she was the defendant she had to go. Coleen is not a air head, she works hard and has her own business.
Some posters are coming across as very judgemental and snobbish.

What puzzles me is why Rebecca Vardy went ahead with the case in the first place. I am sure her lawyers would have advised her, once they saw how thin the evidence was, to settle out of court, and yet she persisted.

She could have settled the case out of court during the proceedings, when it was obvious that the case was going against her, but, again, she persisted. She would have known that if she lost - and by the end of the case, it was clear she was going to, she would have to pick up all the legal bills, but again she persisted.

I do wonder about her mental state.

Iam64 Fri 29-Jul-22 21:19:32

I suspect Rebecca Vardy is a tough street fighter personality and believed she could win. She will definitely have been advised against suing Colleen Rooney but went against legal advice

Grannynannywanny Fri 29-Jul-22 23:21:05

I was gobsmacked when I sat down to watch the lunchtime News and this nonsense was the opening story. So much going on in the world and this farcical story was headline news and discussed for several minutes.

NanKate Sat 30-Jul-22 01:58:27

You are right GrannyGravy I called them airheads before checking the facts. Apologies to Colleen Rooney.

SpringyChicken Sat 30-Jul-22 06:27:10

The outcome of the case is reported on the BBC website in Entertainment and Art. ????

On Radio 4 yesterday, a law expert was talking, he said he knows Vardy's Barister well, he was sure on more than one occasion he would have told her to drop the case.

M0nica Sat 30-Jul-22 07:11:52

If this case hit the headlines over everything else yesterday, it is a 10 minute wonder that made us laugh, wonder or sigh depending on our interest. The murder of the child will stay in the news far longer and be thought about more deeply as will the war in Ukraine and the atrocities there.

If the news was only the worst, deepest and most serious events, without any light relief, we would probably have all stopped reading the news or watching it by now. It is the fact that the significant news is leavened by ridiculous, bewildering cases like this that make it possible to face all that is dreadful.

Iam64 Sat 30-Jul-22 07:49:55

MOnica, your post made me feel a bit better about having followed this story a bit. Since lockdown, I’ve followed the news print, radio and tv much less than previously. It’s partly the 24 hour news but mainly the relentless focus on terrible world and home events.. I need a bit of light relief, that phone falling into the sea and ‘I’ve never met” Davy’s Locker, don’t know him made me smile. Shockingly superficial and not very kind. I’m not convinced Mrs Vardy is very kind either.

Chewbacca Sat 30-Jul-22 07:59:19

I found the whole thing a kind of "light relief" in the news as well Iam64, although I'm sure it's wasn't for the parties involved.
