Why is Boris still PM if he's going to do no work?

Just that really. Is he only remaining as official PM to get paid? Because if he has no intention of working, surely he should be taken off the books, as any of us would be if we absented ourselves from work.

I didn’t realise one could not express an opinion unless one was directly affected by the situation. Fleurpepper, I assume this is what you are implying?

Of course you may express an opinion, Artols

But saying Just to wind you all up on here is not really an opinion, is it.

Nusgranny Wed 17-Aug-22 22:26:54

Bodgejob is still PM, the country is in crisis and he has gone on his holidays, again. Starmer is Leader of the Opposition and as such is not (yet) responsible for the country.

Arto1s Wed 17-Aug-22 22:44:13

Callistemon21 My opinion, as you know, was that I thought Boris Johnson had been a good Prime Minister. And it did seem to wind you up - no further comment.

Announcing that you were going to wind us up puts a question mark over the statement following that announcement. I.e was it a genuine opinion or was it just a wind up?

It's also very difficult to take anyone seriously who thinks that Johnson has been a good PM...

MaizieD I really don’t care if you take me seriously or not. It seems to me that the only people taken seriously on here are those raging against Boris Johnson.

They're taken seriously because they value honesty, integrity, a work ethic, observing the law and having care for the populace, in a country's leader.

Johnson violates every single one of those qualities. He has also achieved nothing good during his term of office.
Those who support Johnson presumably share his complete lack of moral compass. Can't take them seriously.

Arto1s Wed 17-Aug-22 23:30:13

Wow! No room here for “we will have to agree to disagree” then?

Arto1s Wed 17-Aug-22 23:31:57

My sister has more moral compass than anyone I know. She would also vote Boris in again if she could. She looks to what he can do in his public life rather than in his private.

It was his public life I was referring to.

Ok so in what way has he been a good prime minister,
Let’s hear some examples

I wonder if you are a Trump supporter too ? Just a thought.

Like so many on the far-right you don't do critical thinking do you Artols? What has your sister got to do with this. Don't you have a vote in the UK?

DaisyAnne Thu 18-Aug-22 10:03:12

Back to the OP. Sorry if this has already been said but life is too short and too busy to read seven pages smile

Johnson is waiting. With the new PM anointed, this walking ego will see his job as undermining her. She - it looks as if it will be she - will have to about turn so quickly her head will spin. From appealing to a tiny, mainly old, mainly white, often racist, mainly male selectorate, she will have to go back on so many things she has said as she now attempts to appeal to general voters. These being the general voters she has often slapped in the face to get the leadership.

They say you cannot kid a kidder. In the same way, a simple liar will not be able to outwit the greatest narcissistic liar in our parliamentary history. He will see his only job as undermining his successor, thus protecting his very, very large ego.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Aug-22 10:10:18

Her economic policies are being absolutely trashed by economists and commentators,

But often true. I often think there are some posters on Gransnet who must do nothing except read Gransnet grin

They are not policies. They are sound bites and pronouncements that Truss will have to disown. This thread being about Johnson, I was saying he will be there and paid, not to do an MP's job - I doubt he could - but to undermine her.

All we can hope is that he gets more than 10 days suspension. I cannot think that his constituents feel he has worked for them. Also he only has a small majority.

Everyone forgets he never took maternity leave x2 after Carrie gave birth.

vegansrock Thu 18-Aug-22 10:57:10

I didn’t know he qualified for maternity leave.

U.K. Paternity leave is 1-2 weeks fully paid (included is adoptive parents)

Mamie Thu 18-Aug-22 11:34:04

If you could claim paternity leave in arrears he would do really well, wouldn't he? ?

maddyone Thu 18-Aug-22 11:36:39

I’ve often thought that no Prime Ministers actually do any constituency work. Does someone else do their local surgeries do you think?

vegansrock Thu 18-Aug-22 11:48:44

I know about paternity leave but the poster said maternity leave. Funny that the H o C rules make it almost impossible for women MPs who have given birth to take their maternity leave entitlement.

Just had a look online and apparently they do keep up their constituency work, they hold surgeries but not as often as other MPs.

This is where the constituency back room staff step up.
