I’m starting a thread so we can add our thoughts and hopes for the future. The King will address the nation at midday.

He and Camilla have my support although I know not everyone feels that way.

God Save the King.

Anyone seen this from The Times ?

What?

Is C&A opening again? ?

Patience is a virtue Callistemon ?

Callistemon21 Tue 13-Sept-22 14:08:07

There may be advantages to abdication as I posted the other day.

I would like people to give Queen Consort Camilla more credit. I was shocked when a Dutch friend said she gets terrible press there and is called ‘Old Witch’ etc. I feel guilty as long ago I was also very negative to her and pro Diana.

However, now I feel nothing but admiration for how she has stuck it out uncomplainingly in the face of horrible abuse over the years, and far from being lazy as was formerly said, now is working really hard into her seventies.

I know the Duchess of Sussex has many supporters on this post, but part of my change of heart towards Camilla is due to her. She left the RF and voiced many complaints, where I’d have expected her to be much more resilient having been through the Hollywood system of auditions and often cruel and personal rejections.

So, well done, Camilla. God save the Queen Consort (and the King too, of course.)

????? Duchess of Sussex has many supporters on GN ?? In your dreams.!

You don't know about the Gnetters who don't care to join in the bitchfest, Lucca

Lucca Tue 13-Sept-22 14:20:49

Only going on what I see

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 13-Sept-22 14:23:11

Which is all we can go on. Unless we’re fantasists.

volver

Incorrigible as always.

Stating you don’t believe the Queen was half Scottish then accusing me of ‘havering’!

It appears to escape your notice that these errors of yours (I’m being charitable) are visible to all on these pages. The way you twist yourself into knots then denying what you’ve said and deliberately changing the ‘conversation’ to suit your purpose is your regular response to being caught out on your BS. BS being an old English term akin to the Scottish ‘havering’.

As for hailing me as the “omniscient one” that was just a token gesture and rather disingenuous of you again. You would never abdicate your self proclaimed title and role, as you see it, on this forum. smile

volver Tue 13-Sept-22 15:36:37

Like I've said before on this thread tickingbird, but to someone else.

I don't know what you're reading but its not what I'm posting ?

The queen's not half Scottish and the "omniscient one" was sarcasm.

Glad to have had the opportunity to clear that up.

Prentice Tue 13-Sept-22 15:50:15

tickingbird incorrigible, yes I like that and do agree.
I think that volver and Lucca are supporters of the Sussex's, there really are not many on this forum and I do wonder if that is because they are Scottish and support leaving the Union? I cannot see any other reason for supporting Harry and Meghan after their behaviour and words towards the royal family. They have certainly lost support within the UK.

Prentice Tue 13-Sept-22 15:52:09

I think Camilla is good for the royal family, and is now popular with many people.

tickingbird Tue 13-Sept-22 15:52:22

You’re wrong as you so often are and, as for your sarcasm, you seem to think it went over my head!

Never mind, you seem to have a lot on your plate these past days so I’ll not keep you. Carry on…….

volver Tue 13-Sept-22 15:57:11

I'm so often wrong but you have declined to tell me where. Apart from trying to convince me that somebody born and brought up in Hertfordshire to a family with roots in Durham is actually Scottish.

Ach well, I shall continue in my ignorance.

Now apparently Lucca is Scottish too! Welcome to the fold, Lucca!

Holy smoke...????‍♀️

Prentice Tue 13-Sept-22 16:21:49

perhaps Lucca is not Scottish but lives in Scotland? If neither of these then I am mixing her up with another poster.
I do believe that just living in Scotland gives the right to a vote in a referendum.

volver Tue 13-Sept-22 16:22:27

Shall we talk about havering again?

Prentice Tue 13-Sept-22 16:27:46

you are a strong SNP supporter volver and wish to leave the Union, which I think makes you very anti-royal.
which in turn makes you champion the Sussex's as they too have turned their backs on the royal family. At least, that is what does come over strongly in your many comments.
it is your view and you are entitled to it, just as the posters who disagree with you are too.

tickingbird Tue 13-Sept-22 16:32:48

Shall we talk about havering again?

No let’s not. It was pretty lame first time round.

Ach well, I shall continue in my ignorance.

You could always take the day off grin

volver Tue 13-Sept-22 16:33:30

No lass, wrong on several points...

I am a strong supporter of Scottish independence and see the SNP as the way of achieving it as quickly as possible.

I am a republican which doesn't make me Anti Royal, it just makes me a ... republican.

The SNP's policy is to retain the monarchy in an Independent Scotland.

I don't champion the Sussexes but I do criticise those who believe the drivel propagated about them in the press.

Lucca is neither Scottish, not does she live in Scotland.

Other than that, your posts are 100% correct. ?

Jaberwok Tue 13-Sept-22 16:42:40

Queen Elizabeth the Queen mother was born at Belgrave Mansions, Grosvenor Gardens her parents London home or possibly Forbes House, the home of her maternal grandmother. She was certainly christened there. Her birth was registered in Hitchin, near the Strathmores country house, St Pauls Waldon. She spent much of her childhood either at St Paul's, or Glamis Castle, the family ancestral home in Scotland. Her father was Lord Glamis later the 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, in the peerage of Scotland.

Prentice Tue 13-Sept-22 16:46:55

I believe my post to be correct, with the exception of Lucca who as I have already said, I must have mixed up with another poster.
they do say volver that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, with which I do agree.
I also dislike jokey emojis being used to be unpleasant to fellow posters.

I think your "ignorance", as you call it, seems to be the muddling up of ethnicity and national identity. The Queen's mother was Scottish, as far as I can see, so she is of half Scottish heritage. She is also descended, down two lines, from Robert the Bruce.

The British Nationalists tend to make the same mistake when they talk about people not being "ethnically British" when what they mean is they don't have white, Anglo-Saxon heritage. It's a very divisive argument - as is yours - based on an oxymoron.

Do you dislike jokey emojis Prentice? Shall I tell you what I dislike?

People making erroneous assumptions about me and my beliefs and ascribing motives to me that bear no relation to reality. You can believe what you like, that's nothing to do with me, but what you believe about me is just wrong. ?? (Sorry about the jokey emoji)

The full Oscar Wilde quotation you partially quoted is: sarcasm is the lowest form of wit but the highest form of intelligence.

The Queen's mother was Scottish.

No, she was not.

You appear to be confusing her father holding a Scottish Earldom with actually being Scottish.

volver Tue 13-Sept-22 17:05:37

Finally, do not suggest that I think being Scottish is anything to do with where you are born. If someone wants to be Scottish, come and fill your boots. But actually live here and contribute to the country, don't just summer in the big house with your ghillies and tell us how much you love the country and that you are descended from Robert the Bruce.
