Is this appropriate?

I think it makes him look political. I can see some of goodwill people seem to have for him leaching away as a consequence.

But I dislike both the monarchy and Truss, so recognise I’m a tad biased.

I worry about Camilla. I think she struggled to get over covid for a while and I don’t think she has the stoicism that the Royal family seem to have. I can’t believe I’m saying this as someone who hated her at one time. Just goes to show, if you want to get into my good books just make a point of letting people know how much you like dogs and horses!

How could you hate her? You don't know her; you don't know the truths of her life.

To be honest, I was looking at William yesterday and thinking how worried he looked. I've noticed this before, the deep frowning and anxious expression, which will age him before his time. He clearly knows his life will be one of total duty. Even little George often looks rather anxious. I am a Royalist and love the RF but I am just beginning to wonder if the 21st century will be too demanding for them. It's all so different from the Queen's reign, every move is filmed in close detail, everything they do is scrutinised on social media. Frankly, it's too much.

Truss has backtracked. Her spokesperson has said she is only going to the four church services, not joining any other part of the tour. The spokesperson claims this was always her intent, but it is quite clearly not what the original Downing Street statement said.

I don’t believe any of this was arranged in advance, and Downing Street have confirmed that it is not a constitutional expectation, but something the PM feels is the right thing to do. For whom was not mentioned.

Thank goodness.

I've no problem with her attending the services, as I said way back upthread.

GG13. King Charles is touring the UK. He is royal. Not only that, he is Top royal. I think that makes it a Royal Tour.

It is good to hear there has been a change of thinking. I have just read about the "sweeping reorganisation" Truss is making in the Civil Service. I do hope this is not the politicisation her predecessor seemed to want.

If she were to go on the Royal Tour (Progress?) then I would worry about bringing politics into the position of Head of State too. The fact that we don't vote for the HoS is why it can remain non-political and one reason why I would rather it stayed that way.

Is Truss known to be religious?

Luckygirl3 Sun 11-Sept-22 18:52:12

Not enough to stop her having a long extra-marital affair!

None of us know what her religious beliefs are.

I hate a lot of people that I don’t actually know eg Johnson, Trump Farage . And, having gone through a heartbreaking divorce where there was a ‘third person’ in our marriage that I tried to protect my children from I felt great empathy for Diana and had very little sympathy for anyone happy to have an affair with a married man and father. Have you experienced that?

Prentice Sun 11-Sept-22 19:09:24

Zonne yes, you are biased indeed, but at least you do recognise that fact.
support for either King Charles or Liz Truss is not already leaching away, and it seems you are wrong, or the media snippet was wrong to assume this was a tour.

Zoejory Sun 11-Sept-22 19:10:02

Diana caused that exact trauma to the wives of her lovers, Maybee70

GrannyGravy13 Sun 11-Sept-22 19:11:21

Maybee70 have you the same empathy for the wives of the men that Diana the Princess of Wales had affairs with?

Well said!

It’s a tour, as others have pointed out. I didn’t say support was leaching away, I said there was a risk of it. It was not a media snippet, it was a Downing Street statement.

I agree GG13 and Zonne. She was no saint.

There seems to be a ridiculous veiled suggestion that Truss will try to seduce Charles. Unbelievable.

What goes through some people's minds?

Well that’s me told. I shall ask HQ to remove my offensive comment. Even though I was actually voicing concern for Camilla.

Callistemon21 Sun 11-Sept-22 19:34:32

Luckygirl ?

Zonne Sun 11-Sept-22 19:40:02

You have no idea what the marriage of Diana and Charles was like or what led to them parting. Hate is an extremely strong term. It suggests intense hostility towards another person. What right have you to feel hostile to someone you don't know and, presumably, haven't even met? Isn't that the way bombs get thrown; people attacked? Perhaps this is a case for "Prevent" wink

They didn't have the same experience as you; no one else has, just as no one has had the same experience they did. I am sorry it didn't work out as you wanted, as you expected. However, you can have no idea about any other marriages and maintaining anger against others will not mend your sadness.

As for Farage and Johnson, surely you could hate the deeds. So much hate; it cannot come from a good place MayBee.

MayBee70 Sun 11-Sept-22 19:51:05

You know something. I’m pretty upset about the Queen. And another death that happened the week before. When I remember my own divorce I feel physically ill and that’s how I’m feeling now. I’ve asked for my offensive post to be removed so just back off will you. I’m not a saintly person like you.

DaisyAnne Sun 11-Sept-22 19:52:45

I'm not "saintly" MayBee. I don't like you hurting yourself. I don't like anyone doing that.

Callistemon21 Sun 11-Sept-22 19:55:12

Don't Maybee

I'm sure nothing personal was meant and it is a fact that Diana was no saint and must have caused distress to other men's wives, just as you have felt.

None of us are saints Maybee70

We all cope with situations differently. I am sorry your divorce was painful ?

Some are able to move onwards and upwards, some are embedded in the past.

I meant no need to have your post removed unless you feel it is too personal. It's not offensive.
