Is this appropriate?

I think it makes him look political. I can see some of goodwill people seem to have for him leaching away as a consequence.

But I dislike both the monarchy and Truss, so recognise I’m a tad biased.

You know something. I’m pretty upset about the Queen. And another death that happened the week before. When I remember my own divorce I feel physically ill and that’s how I’m feeling now. I’ve asked for my offensive post to be removed so just back off will you. I’m not a saintly person like you.

None of us are saints Maybee70

We all cope with situations differently. I am sorry your divorce was painful ?

Some are able to move onwards and upwards, some are embedded in the past.

Which I have done otherwise why would I be concerned for Camilla (which was the main reason for saying what I did).

Namsnanny Sun 11-Sept-22 23:58:51

On the face of it, this seems wholly inappropriate.
I just ask why?

I agree GG13 and Zonne. She was no saint.

There seems to be a ridiculous veiled suggestion that Truss will try to seduce Charles. Unbelievable.

I hope this wasn’t referring to my earlier post about ‘there were three of us on this tour, it was a bit crowded’.

It was meant as a light hearted, jokey comment.

I apologise if I gave the wrong impression, that wasn’t my intention.

Surely she is supposed to be focussed on “delivering”. She has spent weeks touring around the country and giving speeches. We were led to understand she wasn’t going to waste any time and her priority was the problems of the country.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 12-Sept-22 09:16:04

No Calendargirl, it wasn’t what you said, which I thought was funny. ?

Exactly. Her 'in-tray' was bursting with problems to be dealt with, so there must be a stack of work to get on with. She doesn't have time to go touring.

Well, what was it then?

I am in my usual state of complete astonishment; anyone who reads into this thread an idea that any poster was worried about Truss seducing Charles, needs to give their head a wobble...

spabbygirl Mon 12-Sept-22 11:48:27

its not appropriate and smacks of Tory desperation for votes

Ms.Truss is the Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, why on earth would she not visit all parts of the Union with the new Monarch during the time of National Mourning?

Well said.

PamQS Mon 12-Sept-22 12:03:18

Someone called Richard Murphy had a massive rant about the unsuitability of this on Twitter, it was very good.

I doubt Truss waited to be asked - she seems to be going through a bit of an ‘I’m the PM and I can do whatever I want!’ Phase at the moment.

Charles has a Queen Consort to go on trips with him!

This government have got a cheek telling the rest of us off for being skivers! The attempts to get out of governing are becoming more and more desperate!

Echame Mon 12-Sept-22 12:10:37

Completely agree with Grany..Liz Truss is a turncoat who wanted to abolish the Monarchy but changed her tune when it suited her political ambitions later. Bah humbug!

Dinahmo Mon 12-Sept-22 12:14:47

Change of tack! Apparently she's just going to the "services of reflection" in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Tempest Mon 12-Sept-22 12:15:48

It seems to me the main point is that sensitive fragile Charles will need lots of strong women around him to help him and support him, to love him and stroke his delicate ego and not raise their voice but gently soothe him. I say good luck to any woman who wants to put up with that.

henetha Mon 12-Sept-22 12:17:47

I think you underestimate him.

OldRose Mon 12-Sept-22 12:21:10

It's not happenng! It has been confirmed that, while Ms Truss will attend services of memorial across the UK, she and the King will NOT be sharing a tour. Would have been utterly inappropriate, I agree, but it's not happening.

As a counter POV to many of the views expressed here, I have been enormously impressed by the new King: he has assumed the role with courage, dignity and grace, at a time when most of us would be taking compassionate leave - if we were still working at 73! I think King Charles will do a superb job as Head of State. I've never been a rabid Royalist, but have to confess, in the last few days, I've fallen half in love with him. ?

I've always liked Charles, OldRose and am glad to share your view that he will make, already is making, a fine king.

grannysue101 Mon 12-Sept-22 12:24:40

Probably too late to change plans but I totally agree. It's completely wrong.

Not appropriate in my view. Monarchy and politics should not mix. Bias springs to mind.

Liz Truss said and supported many hings which were quickly abandoned for her to climb the Tory pole

GraceQuirrel Mon 12-Sept-22 12:30:12

Grany

Liz truss said Abolish the monarchy

m.youtube.com/watch?v=eP2AkUxzn_8

And since then has changed party and has said she was wrong, keep up dear!!!

Casdon Mon 12-Sept-22 12:32:52

I believe Liz Truss is trying to win over the other nations, that’s why she wants to go to the services in all the UK nations, riding on the goodwill towards the Queen.

Keekaboo Mon 12-Sept-22 12:36:48

I also think this is Wholly inappropriate
I agree with others it makes him seem political.
Truss must be rubbing her hand in glee.
I like King Charles but can’t stand the new PM she is just a Maggie Thatcher clone.
Even if it was another PM from another political party it would still be inappropriate.
Waken up King Charles !

Whitewavemark2 Mon 12-Sept-22 12:38:14

This won’t bring her much popularity. Her new S of S for business etc. has made this recent announcement

JRM "It's very hard to believe that the
right to paid holiday is an absolute
moral right"

Says the man who avoids paying income tax and is able to do so because of his wealth.

Nusgranny Mon 12-Sept-22 12:38:37

Eezybee you said "Of course the monarchy and the government should mix. Parliament will be in recess I believe during the official mourning period, presumably until the funeral, so what better to do than to tour the country and meet, and listen to, people.
Not junketing around, not touting for popularity, but work."

Just because Parliament is in recess doesn't mean the work of government stops. Truss is jumping on the bandwagon. She should be in Downing Street doing her job.
