I thought we might like to record and share some of the images and thoughts that have a special meaning to us.

I’ll start with this. My most favourite place in the U.K., my home county.

Here is a picture now

Can you think of anyone who would get such a heartfelt response from so many. It’s a first and possibly last time this will happen.

MawtheMerrier

There is a robin hopping outside the window as Rosie and I snuggle down on the sofa to watch today’s pageantry and to remember our Queen.
Loved ones are said to be near when robins appear - Paw is never far from my thoughts so perhaps that robin’s role is to reassure me he is indeed with me.

Yes. I’m curled up with Winnie whippet. I had to chuckle when I noticed that Charles wasn’t singing and then I realised that he doesn’t have to sing along to God Save the King! I have to look away whenever the coffin gets moved in case anything goes wrong!

The silence
And the faces of those young men in the bearer party.

On an old steam strain the other day this picture was opposite me very poignant.

Gosh, that camera shot looking down from inside Horse Guards Arch is so redolent of Diana's funeral - don't know where 25 years went.

Beautiful music at the funeral and the pageantry, brought a tear to my eye,

No idea why but bagpipes get me every time ?

We do pomp and ceremony so well

Loved the buglers too.

Actually I’m not sure if I put this on the correct thread …,

The Queen's Piper, the sound of the bagpipes fading away

Just raised a glass to HM. Here’s my darling late DH meeting her. At 6’2 he had to bend over!

The Royal Navy pulling the State gun carriage.

Same here. It’s the first time I’ve shed a tear. The pipes together with them didn’t help ?

The lone piper on the balcony of Westminster Abbey

I am glad someone else was worried about the possibility of things going wrong ..... orb, sceptre and crown slipping off when descending the steps ......... gulp!

sodapop Mon 19-Sept-22 13:23:44

I thought of that too Luckygirl think they must be fixed somehow.

MayBee70 Mon 19-Sept-22 13:34:19

Last difficult bit coming up now….

MayBee70 Mon 19-Sept-22 13:35:14

Can’t breathe…

Whitewavemark2 Mon 19-Sept-22 13:38:18

Apparently at George V funeral, the gun carriage went over a particularly bumpy bit and the top orb and cross fell off the crown.

Archbishop of Canterbury - "Those who serve will be loved & remembered when those who cling to power & privileges are long forgotten"

Whitewavemark2, that cartoon from The Times is so powerful. A picture painting a thousand words . . . .

Luckygirl3 Mon 19-Sept-22 14:01:12

My ears pricked up at one of the prayers about taking care of the poorest - let's hope LT was listening........

I also thought thank goodness it was not BJ reading the lesson - it does not bear thinking about. LT was infinitely preferable and, whilst I hate what she stands for, she did OK.

GrannySomerset Mon 19-Sept-22 14:01:17

Did you notice that most of the funeral music was by British composers? A graceful tribute and detail, like so much else, including the flowers on the coffin.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 19-Sept-22 14:04:52

In good hands. My goodness+what a job they had.
