Camilla to be crowned.

I was prepared to ignore the coronation, but for Charles to insist that his now wife be crowned is beyond the pale in my opinion.
I realise there are a huge number of royalists on Gransnet but do any of you agree with me that she should not be crowned?

You know if you think about it, Charles married the love of his life. And Diana, good bless her was the third wheel.

Charles loved Camilla from the start. He had to marry Diana to have an heir. Diana knew this and her family encouraged it as it lifted the Spencer family.
I’d Diana had been clever at all and had read anything other than Mills and Boon, she would have understood the assignment.

Charles is with the love of his life, married and happy. Camilla helps Charles and will make the job he’s assigned to do easier, so yes she should be Queen.

William is well over his mother’s divorce, and death, as he’s a contemplative and clever man. He’s put in the work to move on, and he’s invested his time in selecting a clever supportive partner in life. She gets the assignment too.

Harry is stupid like his mother - Diana even said as much- and has to make money being a victim of circumstance, rehashing his childhood.
He has to complain about everything to earn his living, and keep his wife in luxury.
Neither of them understand the assignment. They are in a hell of their own making.

No doubt we’ll all be hearing how his Diamond slippers are too tight in his ghost written book: His Truth. Yawnsville.

So yes, Queen Camilla should be crowned imo.

What an unpleasant post. Whatever Diana’s faults she died tragically young.leave her alone for goodness sake.

Of course harry has to earn money as does his wife who is more than capable of doing so as she did before she married him. You re free not to like them of course

Lucky old William, eh, to be over the death of his Mum.

Anniebach Wed 12-Oct-22 16:47:54

Nothing can take away his grief but his work for mental health
will have helped him to understand his mother’s choices

BlueBelle Wed 12-Oct-22 16:48:02

I m not much of a royalist very Luke warm I m afraid BUT I like Camilla and think it’s right she should be crowned Queen

Just Charles , Camilla , William and Kate should be the only paid Royals the rest should get a job

MissAdventure Wed 12-Oct-22 16:50:32

I quite like Camilla.
She is certainly the right woman for Charles, I think.

It's not necessary to hate Diana in order to like Camilla, though.

Anniebach Wed 12-Oct-22 16:51:51

So William and Kate should take on the charities of Anne,
Edward and Sophie and carry out their public duties

MissAdventure Wed 12-Oct-22 16:55:20

I cant see any reason why not.

We've all been advised to take on more work, and its easier from a position of privilege.

They can have more staff to help out.

Brilliant. Public "duties" could be pared back, as well.

They really could work the hours of other mortals, albeit at high wage.

VenusDeVillendorf you're correct about Charles and Camilla.
But he shouldn't have married Diana. He was older and more mature, and knew he didn't love her.
The rest of your post is very unpleasant.

Floriel Wed 12-Oct-22 17:11:12

I think Camilla’s great, warm and humorous. It’s very sad that his first marriage didn’t work out, but at least he didn’t leave Diana for a younger woman.
He wanted his ‘devoted old bag’ as she apparently calls herself - and doesn’t that tell us something nice about her!

Knowing you’re not a fan of Diana, or Harry, that is a sensible and kind post.

VenusDeVillendorf Wed 12-Oct-22 19:21:07

Look, you may think my posts are not very nice but William himself has said he’s over his mother’s death, and at her 20th anniversary he said he wanted to lay her to rest and move on.

It’s Harry who’s digging her up every time he opens his mouth, and has merchandised her death, and keeps banging that old drum for the cash.

I’m just stating facts. Sometimes they’re not pretty. I do wish Harry would get over his fury about being the spare - but he isn’t even that anymore - Charlotte is, and he just seems stuck in the past like a some kind of manikin statue.

Yes, Charles shouldn’t have married Diana but there was IMMENSE pressure from his family to do so, and from her’s too.
He wanted to marry Camilla, his family wouldn’t let him.
Diana wanted to back out, her family wouldn’t let her. Arranged marriages work out as well as love matches, but Diana didn’t know the rules, she didn’t know what her job was, and was stupendously ignorant, as she said herself.

I think William is the best of them tbh. He’s done the most work on himself and was careful about who he chose to share his life with. He’s used his brains, he’s done his inner work, and accepted the assignment.

Harry jumped in to marry someone he didn’t really know against all advice and left his family behind for a Californian gold rush which seems to be nothing but fool’s gold.
He’s got nothing going for him, no talent, no vision, and now just spends his days releasing press pieces, picking at a scab no one’s interested in seeing.
Harry’s life is now a tragedy- but he rushed in where angels fear to tread. Just like his self proclaimed unbrainy mum did. She wanted the big white Abbey wedding, but didn’t want the marriage, and what it entailed.

Harry could have done so well in Africa, but he’s made his bed now in the US, and he can lie in it - or make his life abroad as King Charles said.

I support King Charles’s decision to slim down the monarchy. Even the Queen Elizabeth 2 demoted the other spare prince, Andrew.

Queen Margarethe of Denmark also has a spare wheel problem it seems. She’s consciously uncoupled that 2nd Prince and set him off to live his best life abroad, and well done Her I say!

Too many spare Princes spoil the Monarchy.

Camilla had been steady and steadfast in Charles’ life. She deserves to be honoured and crowned as Queen. She was and is Charles’s true love long before poor foolish Diana was on the scene.

Don’t get me wrong Diana had her qualities, but crikey she wasn’t for the long haul. She couldn’t accept the assignment.

Camilla has legs for the journey and is a perfect partner for the rather emotional Charles. It’s a pity they couldn’t marry when they wanted - they’re clearly karmic together.

Waste of space, eh? Don't know how he manages to get out of bed in the morning. What a waste of a life.

(Sarcasm alert)

Can't say your second post is any better VdeV.

Jaberwok Wed 12-Oct-22 20:35:25

Totally agree with you Venus. Harry's life and his relationship with his family is tragic . His interaction with the wellchildren was a glimpse of how his life could have been. He was brilliant with the children in Lesotho, just like his mother, he has so much empathy with these youngsters and could have done great things in the field of compassion and charity. He always seemed such a lovely young man, it's so sad now to see his almost permanently scowling face. Wonder why he didn't visit his elderly ailing grandmother before she died? He must regret it. I don't think the old Harry would have been so cruel, and foolish. All very sad all round.

volver Wed 12-Oct-22 20:47:44

I literally just posted a link to his happy smiling face. ?

It's like some kind of mania this. Is there a name for just making stuff up and feigning concern while completely ignoring reality? "Delusion", maybe?

JaneJudge Wed 12-Oct-22 20:52:39

Why is Harry's life tragic? Losing his Mum was tragic but he's happily married now and has a life of privilege. There is nothing to suggest ongoing tragedy

JaneJudge Wed 12-Oct-22 20:56:51

and to be quite honest, and many of you on here will have experience :
Some men marry women who just can't stop talking
Some of your sons will be married to them
Some of them will be your daughters
Some of them will be you
and obviously some of them may be married or going out with your daughters too
You might live next door to them
Some of these women who are talking are men
Some of them are actually men

None of them are Spartacus

But he's not doing things a group of Grans he's never met think he should be doing Jane. There's only one tragic thing here and it's got nothing to do with Harry.

Waste of time this discussion when the UK is in such a mess caused by Truss and Kwarteng.

I agree, can the country really afford the Coronation? Is it appropriate at this time of austerity? It is an archaic institution that we should be looking to cut down to the minimum. Camilla has got her man. let's wait and see how she copes.

“Let’s wait and see how she copes”

We’ve all seen how well she copes and how good she is for him so there’s nothing to wait for.

they wanted him to meet a wholesome and white, upper or at least upper middle class lady who kept her gob shut - right?

how sad considering what happened between his parents almost arranged marriage

I like Camilla and she's a much more suitable wife for him than Diana was. I definitely think she should be crowned queen.
