Completely agree Dickens. Could I also add the group who are so busy concerning themselves with whether others are getting more than them/than they 'deserve', that they can't see what is being done. We read this every blinking day on GN, those who make snide comments about people at foodbanks with 'the latest mobile phones and flatscreen tv'. People who punch down when they should punch up. Nicely targeted articles about 'benefit cheats' in the usual newspapers rags, whip it all up and people not only believe it, they vote based upon what they have read.

Yes HPQ - those also. It's odd that so many appear to know of others who are living the life of Riley on benefits. As with a lot of these things, there's always a nugget of truth in these wild claims - there are benefit 'cheats', but the implication that most of them are is just right-wing hype, more divide-and-rule.

Just as an aside - I thought all TVs were now "flat-screen"! I remember when they first appeared on the market - hugely expensive... this mantra obviously originated around that time - because they no longer cost those ridiculous amounts.

As you will be aware, following the recent resignation of our Prime Minister, a leadership contest will be held to elect the next Leader of the Conservative Party.

Nominations to stand for election will close at 2pm on Monday 24th October. The Parliamentary Party will then vote to decide the final two candidates who will participate in the online member ballot.

As it stands, if you continue to remain a paying member of the Party, you will be entitled to vote in the contest.

The member ballot is due to open Tuesday 25th October and close Friday 28th October at 11am.

Due to the tight deadlines, this will be a fully online ballot - instructions detailing how to vote will be emailed to all members when the ballot opens.

Each candidate will require 100 nominations from Conservative MPs.

If only one candidate secures the required nominations there will be no confirmatory vote of Party members and the candidate will be confirmed leader on Monday 24 October 2022.

Volver, Yes you can hope! Todays broadsheets indicate that Rishi and Boris will be the main contenders as Penny M seems to have many fewer supporters.

Todays DT says there may be a deal between Boris and Rishi so that one gives the other a ministry of their choice. I hope not. I could not support Boris again and I dislike his wife intensely as so many other Conservatives do, I do not recall any recent PM whose partners got so involved in Party policy.

I know that there will be no imminent election, but I cannot see the Conservatives winning again whatever time elapses. So it is just a matter of time. I hear that MPs do not want the members to have a vote as they think we are all elderly Boris supporters. We may have been in 2019 but not now.

It true to say we vote for the local MP or political party not the PM. But after so many changes of the leader bringing different policies to what the people voted for. I think that a GE would sort out the belief of the system no matter who won. I don’t think the Conservative should be scared of a GE we the people can spring many surprises

So Johnson supporters say that the manifesto of 2019 doesn’t need to be adhered to because so much has changed since then. But Johnson should be PM again because he’s the only one that has a mandate in 2019 from the electorate to lead the party and the country.

There are many decent MPs capable of running the country but none of them are members of the Tory party.

Well colour me shocked. Just been reading that it is not a requirement to be a British citizen, be domicile in the UK or have the right to vote in the UK, to become a member of the conservative party. This means that anyone from outside the country who pays £25 membership can vote in the next PM.

Penny M still running, but it's doubtful that she will get 100 votes - but I suppose we will have to wait until tomorrow to be sure.

I agree that use of his forst name is part of his general manipulation. I always call him Johnson or twat, either is fine with me.

It's not his first name though, is it? His friends call him Alexander. "Boris"is much more of a nickname and as such can be used to convey a negative as well as a positive attitude towards him.
