If you had to choose the Prime Minister from among the Gransnet posters, who would you choose?

Would you choose that poster based on personality or on political persuasion?

I think you'll make a very good Speaker Callistemon, although trying to keep order on GN might be more difficult than being PMgrin.

Callistemon21 Mon 31-Oct-22 12:08:25

😂😂😂
I might need a megaphone
They're such a noisy lot!!

Callistemon21 Mon 31-Oct-22 12:09:42

Yes, I approve, Scottiebear
Please ban the sale of fireworks to the general public!

Dickens Mon 31-Oct-22 12:11:07

It's perhaps not a good idea to nominate anyone in case someone else feels left out!

... hmm... some of us (me) would most definitely want to be left out...

Who wants to sit in that largely testosterone -fuelled, stuffy, airless, bear-pit with braying and nodding donkeys muttering and growling "hear" "hear" whilst the PM and Opposition leader jump up and down alternately, delivering riposte after riposte like jack-in-the-boxes, with very pointy fingers?

I'm still nominating MOnica... with her analytical brain, she'd wipe the floor with them probably.

Callistemon21 Mon 31-Oct-22 12:13:11

Yes, but Dickens, if Gransnetters took charge then the majority would be women.

Although I'll nominate grumppa for Home Secretary 😀

leeds22 Mon 31-Oct-22 12:19:14

MOnica gets my vote.

maddyone Mon 31-Oct-22 12:20:02

Okay Dickens since you want me to get off the fence, I’ll nominate you. And Callistemon as Speaker, as that’s a job she wants. However, I’m not even nominating myself as a back bencher grin

biglouis Mon 31-Oct-22 12:32:34

Biglouis……she’ll get things done

I would certainly vote for someone like myself from the hard right but personally I have no wish for power or responsibility. Ive done more than my share for the communuity.

Can we have fireworks on other significant occasions like Diwali

Scottiebear Mon 31-Oct-22 12:43:13

Kittylester. Of course. Remiss of me.

kittylester Mon 31-Oct-22 12:49:57

I think k having a definite time to finish fireworks is a good idea

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 31-Oct-22 13:27:01

Dickens, please.

Nightsky2 Mon 31-Oct-22 13:32:49

One evening only for Diwali and Bonfire night- ending at midnight. And a total ban on Chinese style fireworks designed to make more noise than 'light'.

Currently, fireworks are totally deregulated, and it goes on for weeks, nah, months! A true misery for those with pets, for wildlife and birds, etc.

GagaJo Mon 31-Oct-22 13:42:24

WWM2, Maise, Trisher (who I think has left), growstuff.

... true - we could take over the whole benches - Opposition included.

With the combined knowledge, various skills, wisdom and the 'been-there-done-that' life experiences, GN members might just do a better job for the whole nation.

You might not be so keen - I'd want a coalition government (highly unpopular), and definitely no hard right or left (sorry biglouis).

But, who'd really want the job amid a global recession, the looming threat from Putin, Covid (it's not a thing of the past, yet) and the doldrums of Brexit?

I believe the biggest worry / issue for most now is the economy - on that hangs everything else. But, goodness me, what a job, there is no quick-fix is there? Going back before 2016 and, erm, that vote, we were in an economic pickle... productivity problems, huge reliance on the financial sector, and a shortage / deficiency in training and skills. I don't know how much % GDP we're losing... can't even bring myself to look at Moody’s and S&P's ratings. Yikes!

Thanks for the nomination, I'm taking myself out of the race (I wouldn't have enough backers anyway LOL), I am simply - and this is not a humble-brag - not clever enough for the job. Although I don't think I'd be quite as bad as poor Liz Truss, and I certainly would ban myself from ever using the word "deliver", mostly, because I couldn't deliver anything grin. I've got lots of idealistic ideas about a fairer society for everyone which look good on paper and are easy to spout, but the reality is a completely different kettle of fish.

You can get back on the fence maddyone, it's probably the best place to be at the moment. I'll join you.
