During stage 2 hearings of the GRR Bill in the Scottish Parliament, women are being asked to either remove scarves knitted in Suffragette colours of green, purple and white or leave. At least one woman has chosen to leave. And yet quite a few of the MSPs are wearing Rainbow lanyards.

Volver Oh. My. God. yes indeed, it was a precisely that.

I’m sure whoever wore the scarf never expected to have such an impact.

Of course she did.

(Sorry, just unflounced myself)

You think she fully expected to be ejected from the room? Really? Then it wasn't an 'error' as was apologised for, but a known consequence. The official apology was a lie?

OnwardandUpward Tue 15-Nov-22 16:41:16

Smart move on the part of the business owner, now everyone is probably googling suffragette scarves grin

Mollygo Tue 15-Nov-22 16:50:23

Women Won’t Wheest are interested.

Galaxy Tue 15-Nov-22 16:54:13

I imagine she thought they would eventually learn from their mistakes but it appears not.

Oreo Tue 15-Nov-22 17:05:57

So an apology was issued for an ‘error’, three women were asked to take off scarves or leave. One left the room and the other two were intimidated into obeying.
This is not a storm in a teacup at all, it’s downright bullying behaviour by somebody in charge who thought they could and should get away with it.I hope the publicity will have the effect it needs to have.

Can we calm down now?

Ah, thank you for sharing

So GC feminists have taken the suffragette colours for themselves?

As a feminist, I disapprove of those colours being used in any discriminatory way, especially in a meeting about trans issues. Maybe GC feminists could have their own colours instead

BTW, how many trans threads so far this week?

Current record is 4 in a week or 4 in 4 days

What effect does it need to have Oreo?

Galaxy Tue 15-Nov-22 17:08:53

It's great publicity smile.
Do you think I could make lots of money advising organisations how to respond to gender critical 'protests' because they are so so bad at it.

Mollygo Tue 15-Nov-22 17:12:49

You made it trans Volver dear. Did I miss a mention by anyone else of that word-until VS joined in?

Oreo Tue 15-Nov-22 17:14:11

It shows up committees and individuals who think they can tell women not to wear certain colours in case it ‘offends’ somebody volver .Turn this on it’s head and tell men they can’t wear rainbow scarves or lanyards, and see what happens then.

volver Tue 15-Nov-22 17:17:14

I'm going to put this in capitals. Yes, I know its shouting.

IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS OR ANY POLITICIANS. IT WAS A SECURITY PERSON OVER REACTING. NOBODY WAS PICKING ON WOMEN.

Rosie51 Tue 15-Nov-22 17:17:14

VS
The suffragette colours don't belong to anyone, they are a symbol of women's struggle for equal rights. Who gave Stonewall permission to appropriate the rainbow? It was a Christian symbol of a covenant long before Stonewall were established. Should they hand it back?

This has been a thread about censorship and control of women, which has been apologised for now, not everything is about trans.

But women were picked on.

The pinned tweet from the woman who left the room's twitter feed.

Not about trans?

Pull the other one

VioletSky Tue 15-Nov-22 17:20:59

Of course you are right Rosue

I absolutely love those colours, I haven't done any knitting for a while but I'm thinking half rainbow and half suffragettes on a scarf will look beautiful and I probably have enough scraps to do it

Baggs Tue 15-Nov-22 17:22:14

Correction to my post just now: the people picked on were women.

And if asking people to remove their scarves isn't "picky" I don't know what is.

Galaxy Tue 15-Nov-22 17:22:14

Ooh how dare she day that. How naughty and radical grin

OnwardandUpward Tue 15-Nov-22 17:22:25

"Well behaved women rarely make history" I understand if someone's outward behaviour requires them to be removed, if they were disruptive, for example.

But I don't agree with being removed because of wearing a scarf. When did it become offensive to express yourself with your choice of clothing?

Oreo Tue 15-Nov-22 17:23:14

Women were picked on by an individual and a pretty idiotic one at that. Why though? There must have been an instruction from somebody higher up in the food chain.
It’s no good shouting volver this has backfired bigtime on the Scottish Parliament.

Baggs Tue 15-Nov-22 17:23:56

It might have just been a jobsworth, oreo.

OnwardandUpward Tue 15-Nov-22 17:24:58

It's not ok.

It's not as if someone was exposing themselves or wearing something improper. Removing someone for wearing certain colours is absolutely ridiculous as many colours have many meanings. I think a lot more women are going to need one of those scarfs, just in protest.

Oreo Tue 15-Nov-22 17:27:15

A jobsworth who had read an instruction that said women were not allowed to wear suffragette colours? In case it offended any trans person? In case a feminist can’t express herself by wearing those colours in the building?
It’s beyond crazy.
