Meghan Markle Faced 'Disgusting and Very Real' Threats in the U.K., Former Counterterrorism Head Says

So possibly NOT figments of fevered imaginations.

In a new interview with Channel 4 News, the former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police said that there were genuine threats to the Duchess of Sussex's life while she lived in the U.K.

Neil Basu opened up about the alarming allegations amid his resignation as Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations for the Met Police in an interview released Tuesday. Basu, 54, is leaving the force after 30 years, during which he earned the Queen's Police Medal for distinguished service and served as the senior-most officer for the counterterrorism unit of the Met Police starting in March 2018 — two months before Meghan and Prince Harry's royal wedding.

"You were in charge of royal protection. How would you characterize the threats that Meghan and Harry received?" journalist Cathy Newman asked in a quick clip shared on Twitter.

"Well, disgusting and very real," Basu replied, calling extreme right-wing terrorism the "fast-growing threat" to the country.

^and now has a restraining order against a journalist for threatening to kill him^
😲 well, I didn't know that.

He sounds as if he's despairing to the point where his behaviour is irrational and self-destructive.

Did you just insinuate his having a restraining order for threatening to kill someone is Meghans fault? Because she cut him off he had to threaten to kill someone?

Mmm, I had a restraining order against someone once because his behaviour was irrational but I don't think it was self destructive on the part of that person. It was because they were a threat to me. Had anybody had suggested it was because he was despairing that he was acting in the way he was, I would have had a few choice words to say!

Violet, your post 03December, @22.00 hrs, is the post I was responding to.
As we have all seen, Megans truth isnt actually what happened,
You believe the version you choose though.

I believe what I see people actually say, I believe how I see them behave and I believe the law when they are given a restraining order

It doesn't take much research to listen to Megan's father and sister rant and I am pretty sure her brother was charged with domestic violence

I don't think children need those sorts of people in their lives and would be harmed by them

VioletSky Mon 05-Dec-22 07:19:46

I'm always on the side of the children

Iam64 Mon 05-Dec-22 08:54:22

Some people behave abusively in all their relationships. Fortunately, they’re the minority. Best avoided and yes, best to protect children from them.

Allsorts, you clearly believe Meghan’s truth isn’t yours. That’s ok but please, don’t feel you have the right or the need to criticise others who don’t share your truth

GrannyGravy13 Mon 05-Dec-22 08:58:57

The Sussexes have been caught out fabricating events yet again.

One of the shots showing the press pack hounding them is actually taken from a Harry Potter Premiere, before they even met.

Smileless2012 Mon 05-Dec-22 09:06:30

I've just seen that GrannyGravy and it's another example of fabrication to suit their agenda but as far as Meghan's family is concerned as I posted yesterday, I've never seen any suggestion that she was abused or traumatised by her family in anyway.

Estrangement happens for a variety of reasons and unless anyone's suggesting that some of the 'disgusting and very real threats' received came from Meghan's family, I don't see the relevance to this thread.

I expect they sat down with the video editors and trailer-makers from Netflix and said something like:

We've been trawling Alamy and here's a picture of lots of paparazzi for you to include in the trailer. I know that the subjects of a documentary don't get involved in creating the adverts for it normally but we'd like to do it just to upset some Grans on a website in the UK.

Come on volver you have always been a stickler for facts and truths, or are you so much enthralled by the Sussexes that they can do no wrong in your eyes?

Smileless2012 Mon 05-Dec-22 09:17:56

Are you saying that H & M don't know what's in this documentary volver, that they haven't seen it and are innocent victims of a Netflix lie, rather than having been caught out yet again, of fabricating 'their truth'?

25Avalon Mon 05-Dec-22 09:19:01

Interesting Mandana Dayani has stepped down from her role running Archewell, by mutual consent, after 18 months. She won’t be replaced as the Sussexes take full lead of the company.

volver Mon 05-Dec-22 09:22:37

No, I just find it funny that a millisecond image in a trailer for a documentary about their lives is held up as them "telling lies" again. They don't make the trailers. 🤣

It's just an example of the way that the press look for ways of demonising them. It actually says in the article from that bastion of truth the Daily Mail: Royal expert Ingrid Seward told The Sun: 'I don’t imagine Harry would have realised, but Netflix have been careless here....

But blame Harry and Meghan. They lie. They lie!!!

Joseanne Mon 05-Dec-22 09:26:29

The meticulously choreographed storyboard images in that trailer must surely have been given the once over or even been chosen by the protagonists. How embarrassing!
Nothing about them upsets me personally, it is all rather tiresome.

volver Mon 05-Dec-22 09:28:55

You ever made an advert Joseanne?

Guess not.

(A storyboard is something else entirely.)

The critiques of anything to do with M&H in the media on GN could put any media studies students to shame. The minutiae that is picked and pulled apart is just sad really. I'd say it's sad because it's people we've never met, but it'd be just as sad if it was people we knew in the flesh.

I can't be bothered watching the trailer. What exactly has been fabricated?

Quite fancy it actually, if it had been available. But I don't live in California. Guess I could do it by Zoom.

There are two shots one of a battalion of press all with cameras aimed at allegedly the Sussexes which is in fact from a Harry Potter Premiere before they met.

There is also a still of Prince Harry with his hand blocking the photographers shot which is portrayed as being when he was with The Duchess when in fact it was a photo of him and Chelsey Davy.

As is often quoted in GN, its all in the optics and these optics are misleading as they were both pre the Duchess and not part of her story

They have taken the $’s to tell their side of the story …

I am not pro or against them, I can read and see what is in the press both here and abroad (online or TV News) and it’s not looking favourable for them I’m afraid.

Oreo Mon 05-Dec-22 09:46:46

Two things about this thread.
The first is that Netflix using a Harry Potter premiere to demonstrate the paparazzi hounding H and M , when at that point they hadn’t even met, is showing that Netflix are happy to include lies if it sells films and by association so are H and M.
The second’s this thread’s becoming The VioletSky thread. It seems to happen a lot.

Joseanne Mon 05-Dec-22 09:47:35

It is fine to use the Chelsey Davy shot in the story GG13 because the whole progression is looking through Harry's past life from what I can see from the trailer. It's the Harry Potter shot that is wrong.
Yes, I like picking apart cinematograph minutaie (living with someone who was in the industry).
