Sometimes I am ashamed

Fully expecting to be shot down in flames, I never thought I would see the like and am nevertheless ashamed of the country of my birth.

Todays DT, but also Twitter, BBC News and others
POLICE have launched an investigation after placards calling for women to be decapitated were displayed at a pro-transgender rights rally attended by SNP politicians
MPs Alison Thewliss, Kirsten Oswald, Stewart McDonald and MSP Kaukab Stewart were pictured in front of a sign that said “decapitate terfs” next to an image of a guillotine at a protest in Glasgow on Saturday.
Another homemade sign appeared to call for terfs, an acronym for “trans exclusionary radical feminist” which is often used to describe women who do not believe males can become female, to be eaten.

I do not recognise “my” homeland Scotland sad

How the Scottish Parliament voted on the GRR bill:

Who supported it:
9% of the Conservatives
90% of Labour
100% of Lib Dems
86% of SNP
100% of Greens

Sturgeon's Laws?

Callistemon21 Wed 25-Jan-23 10:56:09

Interesting point, Urmstongran

Which are the checks and balances on the Scottish Parliament?
apart from pesky Westminster interfering?

Proportional representation. The committee system. The Independent Fiscal Commission.

But no, we don't have a second house based on the patronage of old PMs full of people who mainly go there to sleep, claim expenses and do what they're told.

MawtheMerrier Wed 25-Jan-23 11:03:57

And you do have Nicola Sturgeon - says it all.

So on a thread mainly about Self ID, Maw introduced a cutting about a rapist in order to make a point and yet you think I'm the one who doesn't care about what this person did, and I just want to make point?

Aye, right.

Have you got your facts right?
And if males can do that without self ID you would justify the introduction of self ID because . . .

Well, we do need an elected Upper House.

However, sometimes they wake up and stop something just wrong going through.

Aye - the leader of the party that nearly 50% voted for? What a country this is, giving people what they want...

Because Self ID has got nothing to do with whether someone is a rapist or not.

🤷🏼

I'm starting to wonder what you are talking about, though...

Should be obvious.

Suddenly claiming to be a woman when you're an intact male found guilty of 2 rapes, in order to be sent to a women's prison is everything to do with self ID, is it not?

volver Wed 25-Jan-23 11:21:06

Aha. So now we know.

Not only are you ashamed of your own country, you think the people in it make bad decisions because you don't like that person leading the party they vote for. Not sure if its their style or their politics you don't like, no matter.

Showing your true colours Maw.

Don’t worry about it VD. I’ve noticed some things will always be beyond your comprehension.

NO.

How often does this need to be said?

She's done that already. It wouldn't make a blind bit of difference if Self ID was already here, because she has done what she's done without Self ID. She didn't need Self ID to be a rapist, or claim to be a woman or be sent to a woman's prison. If Self ID comes in it won't make any difference to how she is treated.

Rosie51 Wed 25-Jan-23 11:26:09

When a rapist, who by legal definition can only be male, is referred to as 'she' because that's what he wants, this world has gone crazy. The court didn't believe his claim that his victims consented, but totally believe his claim he is a woman. Why couldn't he be incarcerated in a segregated part of the male estate, why pander to his wishes to be housed in the female estate? I wonder if his victims were expected to use female pronouns for him, just to further abuse them.

When they are literal nonsense I certainly don't understand them or the mind of the person who thinks them up...

Chicken and egg Volver

I have made no secret of my long held opinion of a) the SNP in general and currently b) Nicola Sturgeon in particular.

volver Wed 25-Jan-23 11:32:32

Well, perhaps you could move to Scotland and vote them out.

Rosie51 Wed 25-Jan-23 11:32:48

Nobody will become a rapist or sex abuser because of self ID but it will facilitate easier access to potential victims when they're in a vulnerable position ie hospital wards, refuges, changing rooms or other areas where there could be a reasonable expectation of a single sex space.

MawtheMerrier Wed 25-Jan-23 11:34:22

Are you implying I am not entitled to my opinion because of where I live now?
No, I’m content to stay in the United Kingdom as are the majority of Scots-as evidenced by the last referendum.

Sensible post Rosie51 - self-ID as proposed in Scotland is indefensible

So.

Given that we don't have Self ID at the moment and that is what all the fuss is about.

A rapist has decided he's really a woman and wants to live as such. They are on the path to transition. We've had all sorts of comments about how they look like a man (the lipstick stuff). Everybody has to call them "she". They are going to a woman's prison, but being segregated, because that option is always open to the Prison Service irrespective of who you are.

And so having a piece of paper saying they are a woman would have changed things how?

Of course you can have your opinion.

But perhaps your shame about a country you don't live in making laws that won't affect you, could be assuaged by actually trying to change that country instead of carping from the sidelines?
