Shock result of latest polling

A NEW poll has found that the Conservatives would become Westminster’s third party behind the SNP in a snap election. A poll of 28,000 people for The Telegraph found that if there were an imminent General Election then the Tories would be left with fewer seats than the SNP.

This would mean that SNP Leader, Stephen Flynn would become the leader of the opposition. The figures, from pollsters Find Out Now and Electoral Calculus, report Labour winning 49 per cent of the vote while the Tories would win just 23 per cent.

The style of polling used means results could be calculated in individual seats. The SNP would win 50 MPs according to results while the Tories would have just 45, down from 365.
Meanwhile, the new polling forecast that Labour would gain 306 seats, taking its total number of MPs to a record 509 out of 650 available.

Elsewhere, the Liberal Democrats would more than double their number of MPs from 11 to 23 while Plaid Cymru and the Greens would be unchanged at four MPs and one respectively.

The polling was carried out from January 27 to February 5.
On a seat-by-seat basis, 15 Cabinet ministers would lose their seats including Rishi Sunak, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, Home Secretary Suella Braverman and former prime ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss as well as ex-chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng.

Chief executive of Find Out Now Chris Holbrook told the newspaper that the forecasts made “shocking reading for Conservatives”'
Martin Baxter, chief executive of Electoral Calculus, added: “The Conservatives have been far behind in the polls for the last four months, with little sign of improvement.

That's what he says now paddyann54 but when it comes to it, if the only way he can be prime minister is with the backing of the SNP he will change his views.

He won't need that. Probably far fewer SNP MPs too.

Satramer said live on radio last week that even if it meant another 5 years of Tory rule he would never work with the SNP .
If it’s a hung parliament he will work with whoever puts him in No 10 because it’s “in the national interest”.

What exactly are you trying to say Katie59, that you think Starmer has been fickle and changed his mind because he now thinks the Tories might challenge him at the next election so he will be forced to work with the SNP? Labour is a unionist party, so working with the SNP would be an absolute last resort, the Lib Dems would be closer bedfellows if it came to it. It’s just not going to happen though, is it?

It's hardly surprising the Tories are heading for a defeat. Today Therese Coffee suggested poor people might think about eating turnips rather than thinking about tomatoes, lettuce, etc.

Let them eat turnips. That really shows the Tories care, doesn't it?

How disgusting.

Coffey, not Coffee.

If Starmer is leader of the largest party but without a majority it is his job to get agreement with another party to form a government.

In reality there are two options SNP or Libdems both of them have their own agendas that will dilute Labour policies, so he will compromise, the only alternative is to have another election.

Casdon Fri 24-Feb-23 13:37:26

It’s not going to happen. Yes, theoretically you’re right and the same would be true for any party without an overall majority, but another election would be called because a Labour/SNP pact wouldn’t and couldn’t work.

This man has always been a staunch Tory, Editor of the Telegraph for over a decade. Incredible to hear someone like him say this

Max Hastings warned the Tory Party not to allow Boris Johnson to become its leader because he knew him to be totally unprincipled and a habitual liar. It's a pity they would not heed his warning.

He now tells us how the UK government and the country are considered ridiculous by our friends and allies across the world and again he is telling the truth.

Fleurpepper Fri 24-Feb-23 15:10:14

Hyperbole, some here will say. What is just astonishing is that those words like 'ridiculous in the eyes of the world' 'tragedy' and 'run by the far right' etc, come from true one country Conservatives.

😄 that will never happen though. Wishful thinking.

I actually think that there is a danger of complacency.

The Tories excel at mustering their vast financial resources to good effect.

They have the strong backing of many mysteriously funded right wing "Think Tanks" such as those based in Tufton Street.

They can count on the support of the right wing newspapers and their billionaire proprietors.

They are well able to flood social media with their message, often carefully targetted.

The re-drawing of constituency boundaries will increase the disparity in percentage votes and seats in their favour.

The new voter ID regulations will discourage many young people who would be likely to vote for other parties,

Sunak is not as chaotic, corrupt and dishonest as Johnson or as bonkers as Truss.

Before calling a general election money will be found which fell off the magic money tree and suddenly certain swing voters will be much better off.

So no-one who wants rid of the Tories should ever be complacent.

Casdon Sat 25-Feb-23 12:45:55

I predict it will be a good turnout varian, I’ve never heard so many random people talking about politics before in my life, particularly younger people. Passions are running high, so unless things change before the election they are going to be holding back the queues to vote.

I hope you're right Casdon
