New immigration bill - how on earth will it work?

So the latest wheeze from Sunak is to export every single asylum seeker who arrives on our shores, who have not gone through the proper channels or “safe route”

So,

Can anyone explain what safe routes are available.

Can anyone explain the countries willing to accept these exports?

Rwanda has agreed some sort of mutual export agreement - so they will take a few hundred in exchange for us taking theirs. So I’m unclear how that will reduce the pressure - if it ever gets off the ground.

Can anyone explain where all these people are going to be held whilst waiting export, as the law is to apply retrospectively.

Can anyone explain how the Tory government is NOT breaking international law?

I confess that I do sometimes read the Times and the Telegraph online (as well as other media) because my OH pays for them. He also donates about the same to the Guardian as he pays for the Times.

I regularly read US, French and German newspapers online. I wonder what that makes me. hmm

Someone with loads of time?

Wish posters would stop with all the newspaper superiority stuff, which is really about trying to do a put down to others.
Left wing people read a paper that suits them, right wing do the same and all those in the middle too. Some like long well written pieces others like short pithy get to the point pieces.
Some read only one paper, others with time on their hands read a few and some none at all for various reasons.

But how is it possible to form a balanced view without reading information from various sources Oreo? I’d highly doubt that many people exclusively read the Guardian, or for that matter the Times, because those papers have a well educated readership - and the well educated are the people who are most likely to seek out information from lots of other places as well, they aren’t those who are taking what tabloids say as gospel.

The Telegraph is a broadsheet.

I actually used to work at The Express Newspaper in Fleet Street many moons ago.

I live in Hull, as a City we are housing many asylum seekers, local hotels and a large University Hall of residence have been requisitioned by the council.

In the University Halls 34 young men absconded within the first fortnight.
We don’t know who they are or where they are.
A large hotel and wedding venue in a village on the outskirts is now also full of young men in an area with no facilities for them.

Hull is a poor City with many good and kind people, we have supported a lot of Ukrainian refugees, there is a large Kurdish community that have been well accepted and are now very established in the City.

Patience is now running out here, there are just too many, we have massive drug wars , a growing Albanian population, more knife crime and a City Council that is finding ways to accept more and more refugees.

They are all young men, we haven’t seen many families since the first Syrian refugees came over.

There are so many reports in the local paper of these young men having committed crimes, many of them have used cultural differences as an excuse.

I am glad the Sunak has finally done something.

Maudi Sat 11-Mar-23 09:26:20

Well said Sago I totally agree with you. All these fit young men who we know nothing about just wandering about our towns and cities they could be murderers, rapists even terrorists it a disgrace and yes its happened on the Tory watch but Sunak and Braverman have only been in charge for a few months so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt at least they are trying to stop the illegals landing on our shores, enough is enough.

growstuff Sat 11-Mar-23 09:31:32

Any fit young man wandering around our streets could be a murderer or rapist - in fact, some are!

PS. They're not trying very hard. If they were, they might actually come up with a scheme which would work. As it is, they're touting for votes from people like you.

growstuff Sat 11-Mar-23 09:32:50

Yes Sago there are too many concentrated in the same areas. That's because the NIMBYs in more suitable areas don't want them.

Yes Oreo I have loads of time. I have no idea how many media sources I read - representing a range of views. I like to be informed.

I wish people would stop all the faux victimhood stuff.

Maybe been asked before, but what are Labour’s plans on how to deal with all this?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Mar-23 10:23:46

Interesting to hear Macron on the agreement

“ we are righting the wrongs of Brexit”

Cheap at the price of half a billion.

Is Sunak leaping about enthusiastically agreeing with him?

In the same way that he was so enthusiastic about NI getting the best of both worlds with the proposed agreement over the NIP...

What a farce.

Touting for votes from people like me, really, who do you think you are some superior being. I'm a concerned mother and grandmother of 5 as are many other people who are concerned by this policy of dumping young men who have mostly no documentation, who we know nothing about into our towns and cities. I'm worried about my granddaughters walking past these groups of men who come from countries who do not value woman.

I hope you have evidence to back up your statements because now, on GN nothing is believed Re immigration.
Nothing personal from me to you but I’ve been doubted/ questioned on several of my posts on this thread.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 11-Mar-23 11:33:56

Just googled details of Albanian passports, ease of getting one etc. and what countries they give automatic access to.

Makes you wonder why they make the perilous journey across the channel in what are little more than rubber dinghies, after travelling across continental Europe from their country which by some standards may be poor, but not dangerous?

Sago Sat 11-Mar-23 11:35:44

MerylSteep I don’t give a “tinkers toss” I’m sick of keeping my mouth shut and reading but not contributing to these threads.

I can substantiate all of these points.

I believe we have a big problem looming.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 11-Mar-23 11:37:25

I know Meryl’s and Sago’s areas and entirely believe what they say. It’s true that some on GN won’t have a word said against immigrants. Presumably they don’t live in areas that are adversely affected by immigrants. There are some areas of Norfolk and Suffolk that I wouldn’t consider going to, such are the problems with gangs of immigrants.

For the first time in my life, I have time for things I want to do. I think it's up to me how I spend that time.

Nope, I don't think I'm superior. Do you have a chip on your shoulder about being inferior - or something?

I'm interested in voter behaviour and how that interacts with policy.

Of course it’s your right to spend time as you want.
But it was still a funny quip 😄

Totally agree regarding Meryl’s area, my GC are not allowed into the town or main seafront on their own (they are teenagers)

I haven’t shopped in the town centre for over 15 years, and no longer take any of the GC to the amusements or rides. Only walk along the pier off season

(I shall drive through it in about 15minutes, always check doors are locked and windows up when going through the shared space )
